I can be respectful of everyone while I'm in cargos. Why can nobody be respectful of me if I'm in cargos?
-
Funny?
-
Doesn't sound like it. His partners agreed and nobody could locate its original spot so it's fair game, right? Besides, if it was just a round for kicks with friends who cares? :)
-
My sister-in-law attends UT. She says it's big up there. As far as I'm concerned you can have it back and we'll give it to Canada with the rest of Michigan as soon as I can get the paperwork pushed through. LOL :)
-
LOL. Agree with Utah and BYU. As for the stadium seating? Big Ten > SEC That's just if we're looking at numbers though. If we're talking tailgating I'd still bet that OSU would have a bigger showing in 100 degree heat and 25 degrees with snow. :)

You're a 15 handicap your first year? Man to be that good. :) I have been playing 2 consitently and a toal of about 4 of the last 7. Still working on it but seeing improvements. :) I'm with you. HIt the course and get the experience. Just be mindful of others and take care of the course and equipment. :)

I wear cargo shorts most times and wear them proudly. Sorry if that offends. Well, not really, but I'll be cordial anyways. :) I also have been wearing, and will be wearing, Tattoo Golf apparel. My exact situation. The same people that look down on cargo wearers wouldn't dare let a guy like the one mentioned in the strangers thread play along and would miss opportunites to meal real, authentic, great human beings. Is that not what is being done against those of us that can't afford Izods and yachts? I'm not mad. :) I'm definitely not cut out to be a CC member now or ever. I don't drink or smoke, I respect everyone else as well as the course and all equipment, clean out my cart after a round, and generally just respect the game. I don't feel cargo shorts is disrespectful to anyone. The only thing in this world that should require a uniform out of respect is our great military. Aside from that the rest is bickering over personal opinion. If I am playing to enjoy a nice round of golf I should be able to dress comfortably as long as it's within reason. My Adidas golf shoes, cargos, and polo with a tucked in tee underneath seems to please my local courses enough. I guess my money is green enough for them and thats good enough for me. :) To those of you that don't appreciate myself or others like me: That's ok. We can co-exist. You can have your yachts, BMW's, Izods, and Taylormades. I'm gonna kick back with my ATV, 8 year old VW, Wal*Mart polo, and Rams. :) No need to down others jsut because they dono't live your lifestyle. Can't we all just get along? :) To stay on subject, our local CC went public this year. Haven't played it yet and I've gotten mixed reviews. One of my good friends works there, is a ~4 handicapper, and dresses very well. It's great that we can play a round together on a local, privately owned course and now maybe this course and he still treats me like I'm a human. :)

Same theory with sports as anything else (learning to drive, shoot, boat, ride ATV's). Practice with what you'll be using to perform.

OSU all the way. I was born at Riverside and bleed Scarlet & Gray. For those who doubt this is one of the best rivalries in sports, if not the best: Exhibit A Exhibit B Exhibit C (Note that this is best CURRENT rivalries in NCAAF) Exhibit D (Not a numbered rating but good facts as to why it is as such) Exhibit E and Exhibit E1 Exhibit F (even though listed as #4 the proof is in the pudding. "Once the greatest rivalry in all of college football (and all of sports, for that matter)" ) For the Tressel haters: Use the facts. Plus, I never understood why getting to the game and losing is worse than not even making it. Everyone who talkes about how the Bucks can't win a NC game roots for a team who never had a shot. Oh well, jealousy will ensue. :) Best active coaches. For those of you debating longevity/worth of the rivalry: Here's a list. Only 27 out of the 117 on that list are older yet none more historically relevant. Until the Rich Rod debacle...I mean era, OSU and Michigan have been powerhouses who possibly, and on more than one occasion, would have played in the NC game against each other if in different conferences. Nobody can deny "The Game of the Century" as being worthy of the title and the true NC game that year. For those who doubt the atmosphere/tail gating/fans: Top gameday experiences. And yes, we put 100,000+ fans in the stadium rain, snow, or shine. Let's see the "SEC faithful" do that. I don't even bring a hoodie to a game unless it's under 60 and a coat if it's under 50. Some experts from here. That's right. We'll pack one of the countries largest stadiums no matter what. So will other some Big Ten schools. Granted, these are all opinions of posters, but I feel they're valid statements. I understand that if you've never lived here you've never experienced it. I've never lived in NY or Boston, Alabama or Auburn, etc, so I can't vouch for those. All I can go off of is what friends/fam that have lived or were raised in such places tell me. They all agree that in their respective locale local rivalries are huge but nothing, at least in NCAAF, compares to OSU vs. UM. Sorry. That's just the facts. :) I mean serisoulsy, what other rivalry is between 2 of the greatest college football teams of all time? More reading: OSU and UM have larger stadiums than other rivalries proving the demand and fan base is larger. The Horseshoe listed as number one stadium and mentions the fact that it was added to the National Register of Historic Places. I know the vast majority of people on here are more interested in golf but I'm the exact opposite. I doubt everyone will even read all of this. I guess all I can say is... Haha. :)

Golf Magazine Top 100 Public Courses
yenner replied to nevets88's topic in Golf Courses and Architecture
My uncle and I traveled from OH to NC this past February to play Tobacco Road. They had a deal going to play two courses and we decided to drive through the night Thursday, arrive Friday morning, grab some sleep, and play Friday and Saturday and head back Sunday. All went as planned as we arrived at the hotel at ~7:30AM and had a tee time for ~2:00 at Southern Pines leaving Tobacco Road, the course we were dying to play, for Saturday. It snowed about 3 inches that night and shut down the state. In Ohio we may have been able to play since our tee was time later in the day allowed the sun to melt most of the snow and raise the temps to ~55 degrees. We would've too. :) Never got to play Tobacco Road. We will be back. You southerners...LOL -
That's a great idea. Isiah is the same way. Medication every day. He's really a good kid and he's also adopted. His biological mother is a crack addict. Thankfully my aunt and uncle stepped in and gave this child a somewhat normal life. He loves to do anything my uncle and I do, which is a lot since we're only 7 years apart ourselves, and golf is no exception. He doesn't like to take advice too well though. He's 10 and has the world figured out. :) That'll change with time. His sport of choice is football. He sometimes gets bored on the sidelines but when he's in it's all running, hitting, tackling, etc. Loves it. Hopefully your son will find more activites he enjoys and it will help him stay motivated in other aspects of his life. :)

What did you shoot?

Fantastic story. I sincerely thank you for sharing it with me. Kudos to you for not being like some of the high and mighty golfers I've encountered. I would've done the same. :)

My uncles other kid, Isiah, is a great kid but has ADHD I beleive and when he gets the giggles they don't stop. It doesn't matter who is doing what. He also gets extremely excited when he sinks a put and has jump on the green or lightly tossed his putter or the pin. He's learning but he's young. I haven't golfed with either of the girls yet but I think they understand. Since Alex plays for the school she has to play by the rules and understands the etiquette pretty well. Elizabeth is old enough to listen and understand so it should be fine. My biggest problem is when my 23-27 year old cousins or friends who have played the last couple of years with me walk in a line, laugh or talk, or goof off with my shot. I don't care what they do with their shot/score since we aren't putting cash on the line but I am out to improve my game. Really frustrates me sometimes.

I'm envious of you all. My wife and I don't have kids yet and I would love a son to play different sports with. It's great to see that some kids these days still have good role models who want to spend time with them. :) I do however have a 13 year old cousin and 13 year old sister-in-law. My uncle and I are taking them both golfing and it's the first year either of them have ever played. My cousin has only played once so far but she may be a natural. Time will tell. My sister-in-law is on the high school golf team by request and is having a blast. She called the other night to tell me she shot a 64 in a 9 hole tourney. Her previous 9 hole a week before was 82 I believe. It's going to be really great heading out with them Sunday to see how they do. :)

Since nobody else pointed it out I will. I believe you meant "puting my career or marriage..." I'd say your obsession is quite deep. I don't think this was a typo so much as a subconcious spelling error. Shows us where your mind was when you wrote this. :)

Been awhile since I've been on. Had a TON going on. In the process of starting a clothing company, opening a coffee shop, my band hit as high as #2 on the indieheaven.com Top 20 chart (Fight the Years), and this is all on top of my 40 hour personal banker position. :) Good news is Thursday night I leve for the Sandhills to play Southern Pines and Tobacco Road. I haven't owned a sand wedge, but looking at the photos and getting the info in the mail prompted me. :) Wish me luck. I have plenty of balls in preperation. Can't wait!

Funny you said that. I looked at that course before coming down. Wasnt sure what to expect being a muny but today I stopped by the course on the way to our cabin. Guess what? Yup, same course. Haha. Voted best muny in 09 and looks pretty well kept even after the rain theyve had here lately. I'm going to go tomorrow if it doesn't rain. I'll let you know. :)

Crap! My bad all. I'm extremely tired, packing to leave, and STILL excited. :) Feel free to move/delete. Didn't even think of the stickied thread. Doh!

Heading out tomorrow morn for vacay with the fam and thinking about taking my clubs. Anyone know of any good afoordable courses around?
-
Playing with fam last Sunday came up to a par 3. Playing scramble style, I played my cousins "drive" since I spliced mine into a farm field (narrow fairways). His horrible shot left us about 60 yards out. He drops his just off the back of the green. I step up with my 9 iron (if I remember correctly) and make my shot. As it hits the green and rolls close to the hole my uncle says "Nice shot" and milli-seconds later...IT ROLLED IN! That's right, my first year playing and I dropped one from 60 yards! Blind squirrel, I know, but its that shot that got me through a mediocre day. Couldn't be happier. Sidenote: My cousin and I jumped up towards each other screaming and busted our heads together. I kept the ball and now have a scar just above my right eyebrow from the UFC style GASH I sustained when we hit heads. Blood everywhere and me smiling ear to ear. Must've been a great site. So worth it!

Couldn't agree more. Ever play Split Rock in Orient? Horrible staff. The tee tiems are so random. We set a tee time and they let a foursome walk-in, grab keys, and dash to the tee box between us and the group ahead of us. Plus the Ranger there knows nothing of golf. He actually picked up my cousins ball off the fairway and called him a fat***! I need to find courses around here, or within 45 miles of Circleville/Columbus to play where teh staff cares. Crown Hill in Williamsport and Homestead Sprigns in Groveport are the best staffs I have dealt with so far. As for "players" as mentioned by the OP? Can't stand them. I'm WAY more verbal and a good bit more abusive with my language when provoked. I tend to keep my mouth shut unless someone runs theres b/c I have no reason to give advice or honestly care about a persons game regardless of whether they're better than I am or not. OP, you're a better person than I am.
-
Wow. You jsut inspired me to get with a few buddies and take advantage of a package deal. I've never played anywhere but withing about a 30-45 mile radius of my home. This course will be my first out of state. Looks amazing. I almost forgot. I also enjoyed playing The Players Club course at Foxfire . Beautiful, well kept, and nice and challenging. Played it in a scramble though so can't really tell how well I did.
-
Looks beautiful. I may need to head out that way and play a round. Thanks for the recomendation! I'm looking for new places to play next season. EDIT: Guess I should include min. Haha. I think mine might be Upper Lansdowne . Homestead is a fun course with a great staff. Split Rock is a fun course but their unprofessional staf and (literally) verbally insulting ranger make the day unbearable. I won't go back nor will I recommend ANYONE waste their money on a course that is unkept and a staff that is (again, literally) rude and verbally insulting.
