Shot 74 today. Very happy with my game today, didn't make a lot of longer putts but hit much crisper shots today than I have all year (seven rounds). The Rocketballz driver is insane! Great club...ball comes off the face just like a....well ummm....like a rocket. That's lame.

The idea of reverse sandbagging doesn't really hurt anyone unless you're playing in a handicapped tournament with that person. Golf is a game of honesty and integrity--if someone wants to act like they shot better it really doesn't matter to me. If they "think" they shot a 75 when it was actually closer to 80, I guess that is their right. It seems silly though, no one cares that you aren't a professional golfer. How can you take pride in improving if you never really know how you actually play?

I have two and they separated by eleven years. So basically I think I'll have my next one in about seven to eight years from now. Congrats, there is no cooler feeling than writing a 1 on the scorecard.

If you want to push yourself, use a pre-workout energy drink. I'm not talking about red bull or that crap five hour energy. I've used this: http://www.vitacost.com/Optimum-Nutrition-Essential-Amino-Energy-Concord-Grape-0-6-lbs It helps give you that little bit of an edge while you are working out. Keeps you from slacking!! You want to hit the ball stronger and with a little more pop? Work on that core, and I mean work on it. From your knees to your chest...that is where all your power comes from. Get it done. Stay with it.

Rory has to win about 50 more titles before he can be mentioned in the same breath as Tiger. I used to be a hater. I thought Tiger was smug, condescending, and just a basic jackass. And then he won the US Open on a broken leg...kinda changed my opinion about him. These posts are silly...and rather boring. Guy made some mistakes...get over it.
-
I've grown so incredibly tired of Tiger's life being dissected. What happened, happened, golf is incredibly boring without him. He's not playing well now but he is the best player of all time and the Tour needs him. What Tiger did, he did to his wife, he did not do to me. I don't look up to him as a role model; there are other people that can fill that role. I feel bad for the guy. He's trying to turn a corner and everyone in his life keeps dumping on him. Then he has to answer question and question about it. Tiger may not be the classiest person in the world, far from it, but Haney and Williams continue to prove that they have even less class than Tiger. I hope Woods plays well, he's enjoyable to watch and makes the game more exciting. What he does in his private life means / meant nothing to me.

Yeah I brought my Fubuki and tried out the RBZ with it. Launch monitor had a ball speed of 171, launch angle of about 11.7 degrees with a spin rate around 2350. That's a pretty good combination. The Miyazaki I have not hit yet...I've heard good things about it so I'm taking a chance with it. Got too good of a deal to pass up a quality shaft.
-
Finally bucked up and bought the new Rocketballz. I was going to buy the RBZ 3 wood but I liked the head weight of the r11s so much better so I went with that. Put a Miyazaki Black in it...gonna be sweet. Now if only this damn snow would melt...Chicago winters suck.

When my only goal was to hit the ball and I didn't think about the trajectory when visualizing the shot.

I miss the days of only having one ball flight. I'll work it high, low, left, or right depending on the shot. Sometimes you want a lower shot for good control, sometimes you want the ball to just fall out of the sky and stop. I say start with high (as long as it's not a balloon) and learn how to play. The rest of the shot-making will come in time. Just play a lot for the remainder of your life and you'll get there eventually.

I make it up to the Upper Peninsula every summer and there are some fantastic courses up there. You absolutely, positively, have to play Timberstone in Iron Mountain. The two courses at Marquette are nice, the Greywalls is just straight ballz. I love the golf up there, it's so incredibly beautiful.

My golden rule for me or people I get paired with? Mine...don't lose my temper. Others...know and exhibit proper etiquette. The golf course is not a basketball court.

I purchased my first one a few years back and it instantly changed golf for me. Of course it only gives you yardages to and from places on each golf hole, but it allows you to focus on the shot you want to make instead of guessing about what the yardage is, how much club will it take to get over the greenside bunkers on the line, should you lay up off the tee because the water is closer than you realize, that sort of stuff. The only adjustment is to check the yardages on the each tee. The key is, if you have the SGXw, to make sure you change the yardage arcs as you see fit. When you look at the view of the hole, it shows the arcs at preset distances. You can manipulate where the arcs fall.

I just got the SGXw as well. I came from the 2.5 and there are many more features to it. They have the users guide on their website, I suggest looking at that. Have you used a SkyCaddy previously?

If it's a competition, you better believe that I will call someone out if I see shenanigans happening. If someone wants to take a few mulligans and feel happy with their "75", well I guess that's their right but it just seems silly. If you don't count every shot, how can you get better? My friend is a good player and I enjoy the matches that we have occasionally. But, when he isn't playing well, he'll just take a mulligan and act like the match stays square. If he hits a chip he doesn't like, he'll just go and get his ball and hit the shot over. When I say something to him about it, he always responds with "it's not like we're in a tournament right now or anything." I love playing with him because he's actually pretty good, but I cannot stand it when he does that. I like knowing that when I've put up a good round I don't have to think about that chip that I did over.

66 in the heat yesterday. It was a good round.

You can hit a 1 iron but not a driver? You use regular shafts but generate enough club head speed to hit a 3 wood 300 yards? I don't know bro, that's a little too much talent for me. Maybe one of the other freaks of nature on this board can help you out.

I like to know the distance unless I'm right around the green. Knowing the exact distance allows me to then visualize the type of shot I want to hit. I don't think there is one good answer to this question. That's the beauty of golf; you can hit a different shot in any situation on any given day. I love it.

Shot 72 with two double bogeys. Two poor shots kept me from having a pretty decent round early in the year. Had a bunch of great looks at birdie though, was hitting the ball close all day. Few more putts falling and I think I would been around 68 or 69. That's so much sexier than 72.

Glad I waited until today to post my best shot. Second hole, little dog-leg right par 4. Bout a 310 carry over the front bunkers to the green. Bombed right just about pin high. Easy two putt birdie. Was one of the purest shots off the driver in a long time; the ball just jumped and never really left the flag stick. Not bad for the 4th round of the year.

I play tremendously better when I walk. I get to focus on my shots, I stay loose from walking and it's just what I've always been used to. When I ride in a cart, I don't seem to focus nearly as much. If people play better when they ride, they should ride. I like a good walk on the golf course.

Minimum driving distance to compete professionally.

You could easily survive not being a long hitter on the tour, but the rest of your game had better be pretty damn sharp! The thing that kept guys like Corey Pavin and Jeff Sluman around is their complete game. Yeah they hit it nowhere off the tee, but their iron / wedge / short game / putting were extremely good. Remember when Tiger was dominating the tour? He was bombing the ball AND hitting close AND making the putts. You put all three of those together and you usually end up in good position. If you're sub-par on one part of your game, the other parts better compensate for it. -
Good topic. I've played so many rounds in my life and have encountered so many different kinds of people. I'm very happy to say that a very, very, very small minority of golfers are the jackasses. While you should always wait until the group in front of you has cleared, sometimes you mash one a bit farther than you're used to; all you need to do is apologize and most people (myself included) are fine with that. But the same people, like the one described in the OP, act the same both on and off the golf course. The only time I lost my lid was warranted. My friend and I went to play this little nine hole course in my town and walked up to the tee. It rained earlier in the day so the course was empty. A group of four good golfers were standing there ready to go; they told us to go ahead. I told them we were in no hurry; I knew the four guys were fast so I wasn't worried. They insisted so we went--they then proceeded to hit into us for the first five holes. One of the guys even drove his ball over our heads on the second hole; we were no more than 225 yards off the tee and he decided he was going to hit. On the fifth hole, I was hitting my second shot and his tee shot literally bounced and hit my golf bag. Needless to say, I was hot and ready to go. I waited for them to get to the ball and I had to be held back by my friend. Told them to play through, they did. I went into the pro shop after the round and they were still in there. We continued our little confrontation, the pro listened to what was going on and told the guys that if he received another complaint about them hitting into groups, they would be banned from the course. Sometimes you try to act like the bigger person, sometimes you have to be the nice guy. And sometimes you have to be a mean sonabitch. Life sucks.

Played a little 9 hole course (one of the best in the nation) today. Shot an even par 35. Had two birdies and a double. Second round of the year and was pleased. The double was one of those dumb shots, tried to hit a soft 9 and ended up hitting it flush and over the green and into a bunker. Was not pretty from there. Hit some really crisp shots with the new wedges, was extremely pleased. Made two putts >20 feet....that's always fun.
