    Etiquette

I would have punctured his skull with my wedge...but that's me.
  2. 38-45=83...did you fall apart on the back?
  3. Hah...yeah I was being a tad bit sarcastic. Years back I had the Nickel Anser 2 and I absolutely loved it. For whatever reason I bought the Cameron, now I've switched back for good. I know the rest of the companies make solid products, but for the price Ping is absolutely the best. And as I'm writing this goddamn Paul Goydos shot a 59 today. The PGA has to change their slogan from "These Guys are Good" to 'These Guys are Motherf**king Good!"
  4. Ok so I've played a few rounds with the new putter and the verdict is in. I'd be a goddamn tour pro right now if this putter was in my bag the last few years. Amazing to think that Ping makes good putters, who would have thought of that?
  5. Sure. I wont use it. Maybe somebody else can find some glory with it
  6. Just get new grips foo...put them on yourself and you save $$$
  7. The Scotty was not very forgiving. I know that sounds weird in a putter but I have a tendency to cut my putts a little bit and that style of putter did not help me. It's sad because I absolutely loved the feel of the Cameron, it was a soft gun metal and looked really slick. In the end, I want to make more putts from inside 10 feet and I needed to go back to some basics. So...anyone looking for a nice putter for cheap?? :)
  8. Went out and bought a new putter to replace my MEAN Scotty Cameron. Needed something new to get a little confidence back on the greens. Got the new Ping IN Anser V2...can't wait to get out and make 10 birdies.
  9. bshack, great round! Under par is under par no matter the course. Good job. 72 for me today. Played real solid. Was even going into my last hole, had 207 in a back pin on a par 5. Striped a beautiful looking 5 iron, thought it was perfect but it rolled just off the back of the green. Chipped on and missed a six footer for a 71. Was ok though, good fun round today.
  10. I agree with what's been said. I simply do not play in "net" tournaments...I'm sorry but they should flight all tourneys. I hate going out there and putting up a decent number and some 15 handicap played a good round and ends up with a net 65. Totally ridiculous... Oh and you asked about match play? It should be straight up...I think giving strokes on a hole is just a waste of golf. That's my opinion though, probably not the opinion of a lot of people on this site but what can you do? Can't make everyone happy.
  11. Heh...didn't expect so many reponses to my booze filled rant. Doc...aren't you at least a little upset that someone just took a ball that you paid money for? What if you were playing extremely well and then your score no longer counts because some asshat swiped your ball? This is supposed to be a gentlemen's game, I am not a member at a country club and usually have no problem with the general public (aside from the massive slow play). I've always said that Tiger Woods was one of the worst things to happen to this game. Ever since he came on the scene, people go to the courses in droves without learning proper etiquette. I have no problem with people playing the game but please learn the proper way to play. Play ready golf, don't walk through my line and dont pick up my ball. I don't ask for much. Wait til next week. I have a rant against people that think motorized carts speed up the game. Cheers!
  12. Ok, so I nearly got in a fight yesterday at the golf course. It takes a lot for my blood temp to get up but damnit, if you find a golf ball on the course, don't pick it up! I hit my tee shot a little to the right on the par 5 that borders another hole. I'm walking up to where I think my ball is and I see a guy picking up a ball. Thinking it's mine, I hurry my way over because Pro V1x balls are expensive! I walk up and I look at the ball that he was looking at, it's a Slazenger. I ask him if he picked up a ball and he said yea, I asked to see it. It was mine, had my mark on it and everything. What made me really mad was that he put a different ball down. What the hell was he thinking? Did he think I would just play a Slazenger and not realize it wasn't my ball? I almost caved his skull in I was so mad. So please people, you don't just pick up other balls on the course. Unless you're the ONLY person on the course or you're standing in a pond fishing for balls, just leave them be. They are obviously someone else's balls (hee hee).
  13. 2 (11 years between aces) First Ace: 145 Yard 2nd Hole at Montrose, CO Golf Club. Hit a solid wedge right into the sun, didn't see anything but thought I hit it well. Got up to the green, saw a huge pitch mark two feet behind the hole, ball was sitting in it. Bing! Second Ace 197 Yard 17th Hole At Prairieview Golf Club, Byron IL. Slightly elevated green, hit 6 iron and it was all over the stick. Didn't see it go in but the people on the 18th above the hole saw the hole thing. They started hollering. It was pretty cool. Birdied 18 to beat my friend by one stroke that day. Best shot I've ever seen though? My friends double eagle on a par 5. I don't have any of those, not really even close.
  14. From Saturday 75 at Wedgewood in Plainfield. Doubled the last hole, was sitting one over and wanted to make a birdie to get my first round at par this year. What do I do? Pull my three wood tee shot into a fairway bunker. Now, I could have played a safe second shot into the right side of the green but no, I figured why not try to hit a high draw over a tree out of a fairway bunker. So I tried and instead I hit my second shot about forty yards down the fairway. Hit a really poor third shot from the fairway and didn't get up and down for bogey. Was really upset, I hate doing that. I made the cardinal sin of thinking about what I wanted to score on the hole instead of trying to hit two quality shots to set up a birdie. On a positive note, this was the first round I really got to hit my new clubs. (Diablo 3 wood and hybrid). Loved them, these clubs are absolutely fantastic. I actually hit my hybrid too far off the tee on one hole and stymied myself. For so long I despised people that carried hybrids, I loved my 2 iron but these things are crazy. On a par five, I was in the rough and had 250 to a tree protected green. I hit a hard draw out of the rough and around the trees. Put it in a greenside bunker but there is no way I could ever have pulled off that shot with a deuce iron.
  15. 73 today. Par 71 Had a really strong wind for some perfect holes. Hit some absolutely mammoth tee shots. I don't usually talk about big drives when they're wind-assisted but damn was it nice to poke a couple out there. Hit 15/18 greens, really liked the way I hit the ball. Didn't putt fer shit though...hate that. Little bit rusty. Had two makeable eagle putts and walked away with a par and a birdie. I was pizzed
  16. First round of the year today. Played great...solid 75 after starting my year double bogey - bogey. Felt great, loved the new Diablo 3 wood and hybrid. Hit some absolute dead pure shots...and a few a little sloppy. All in all...I love playing golf. Course was empty, my friend and I finished 18 holes in three hours walking.
  17. I give myself a 9. I love my clubs but I hate my wedges. Once I get some new ones I think I'll be a 10.
  18. I'm interested. The only course on that list I absolutely refuse to play is Big Run. My friend and I went down to play that last year, that course was such a piece of crap that I vowed never to return. $45 to walk, and it was the least exciting, most idiotic course I've ever seen. Great terrain for a course, rolling hills and fully wooded. Think they used that to their advantage? No. Every tee shot was elevated and then the shot to the green was back up a hill. The average uphill shot to the green was roughly 35-40 feet. Was an absolutely crap course. sorry for the rant. That was 45 bones and thirty minutes drive time that I will never get back. If you're going to be down that way, try Old Oak Country Club in Homer Glen. One of the best kept secrets in Chicagoland.
  19. Well, now you learned the first rule of slow play. If they don't ask you to go, you wait one more hole. Then you ask them if they mind if you play through. I got so tired of the 5 hour rounds that I don't care anymore. If the course is packed and you won't go anywhere, that's the way of it. But if the group in front of you has open course in front of them, they need to be passed up. I make no apologies, I paid just as much $$$ as they did to play, I want to enjoy myself. Waiting 10 minutes on every shot while they take their time is just not going to fly. There is nothing mean about it, do it nicely and it will work. It's the older crowd you have to worry about. Old people HATE to let young people through.
  20. I like Vokeys but I'm sick and tired of my Spin Mill. One solid shot and the ball is just torn to shreds. All the clubmakers are building these wedges and they all cut the ball horribly. I was thinking of getting an X Forged Vintage 52* wedge and some other company's 58*. I don't want the MD grooves, don't want to peel the cover off a 4 dollar ball.
  21. You gotta love people finding a loophole. Technically, they're legal, so we can't say a word about it. I think it's rather tasteless though, the golfing authorities want to make it a shotmaker's game again, not this bomb and chip crap they've been doing the last ten years. I agree with the new rule, make it a bit more difficult for these guys, they're simply too good. They can't make the courses long enough, so make it more of a mindf@%* out there for pete's sake. I just think it's cheesy for a guy like Phil to circumvent the rules. Don't be a tool Phil.
  22. I used to carry all Titleist clubs in my bag. I'm starting to think that Callaway is making the best clubs out there right now. I love my forged blades, the 660s, so I won't change them until I feel the need to. I switched from the 905r to the FT-5 last year and I couldn't believe the difference. I had a Titleist 3 wood as well but got rid of that for a Diablo 3 wood. Titleist makes good clubs, I just feel that Callaway is currently putting out a better product. Hot off the face and damn forgiving, can't beat it.
  23. Call the course ahead of time. They should know when they have a group of two or three that they could pair you up with. Courses won't tell you to just show up and then not find a place for you. Then again, I'm sure LA has tons of douchebags that play golf now, might be hard to find somewhere to go. It's not so bad in Chicago, I live in a far west suburb and it's pretty easy to find a course that has something open. Or I just drive an hour further west and play a kickass course out in the country for next to nothing. This course rocks. http://www.prairieviewgolf.com/
  24. Call the course ahead of time and tell them you're a single. No course will turn away a paying golfer if they have a spot for you. Sad thing is, most courses here in Chicago also will not book a single. It's just one of those things...call ahead and do what you can.
  25. I'm not a big fan of heavy wind. It's fun to hit different types of shots once in awhile but it gets everything so out of sync. I don't like hitting 40 punch shots! I am a big fan of a slight breeze though. Gives you something to work the ball with / against.
