  1. The one thing I've noticed in my days, senior golfers seem to care little about aesthetics. Think about it, how many times do you see an older person playing the weirdest looking thing? They will play anything to add an extra 10 yards!
  2. I didn't realize it the title that it was craziest BAD shot I've ever seen. My bad, I thought it was just the craziest.
  3. I was playing with a friend at a course around here and on the sixth hole, a short par 5, I hit my tee shot in a thick stand of trees down the left side. He put his right in the middle of the fairway and had roughly 235 yards to the green. I went into the trees, found my ball, and proceeded to hit one of the most amazing recovery shots I had ever hit. Went through about thirty yards of heavy trees and made it out to the fairway. As I walked out of the trees, my friend hit his second shot and I watched as it flew to the green, took one bounce and then rolled into the hole, for a flippin' albatross. He came walking by and asked if I saw where his ball went, I said it went in. He thought I meant into the water short of the green and I said no, into the goddamn hole. He laughed it off and didn't believe me until he walked up to the green and his titleist was nestled in the hole. I had never witnessed a double eagle before, I don't know how long it will be until I do again but it was amazing (crazy). Crappiest thing about it was that I was giving him a hard time about buying a hybrid that day. I used to be against hybrids because I thought they were gimmicky clubs, he picked it up that morning and proceeded to go out and dunk one for a deuce on a par 5. Needless to say, I had to eat some serious crow.

    Yeah...the trusty 5 iron.

Yeah. It's roughly 225 yards, bout 60 feet downhill so it looks a lot further than it is.
  6. I apologize. The rule is that you must be within 8 shots of the course rating. You have a point though plugged. I know a 1.4 HC is already low but honestly think about it for a moment. What do you think a group of tour pros would shoot on your home course? They would take it low, really low. The USGA has to keep the qualifiers somewhat competitive. They realize that if you're in a group with some guys that are shooting in the 90s, it's not the nicest thing for your game. I find it damn hard to play my best when someone in the group is taking four or five shots before I even get to my ball. I shoot under par quite a bit but not to the extent of the tour players, well at least not yet :)
  7. Well, it's also the kind of attitude that is needed. If you fail to shoot below the course rating, you can / will be denied future entrance in the tourney. So I will do it when I feel comfortable doing it. Trust me, I have plenty of confidence in my game but I also know what it takes to play at that level. I just don't think I'm at that point, I would love to go out and play and yes, if I managed to make it through it would be an absolute dream come true but you have to be realistic as some point. It's not like I'm Scott Hoch and refuse to play in the British just because I don't want to. I'd love to make it to the US Open...who wouldn't?
  8. I haven't simply because I know I cannot compete on that level, yet. It is one thing to carry a good index at your home course, it's another to bring game to a course that is set up quite difficult. A few years back, Steve Stricker and Mike Small were paired in sectional qualifying together for the Winged Foot Open. The qualifier was at a course here in my hometown so a friend of mine and I went and watched. Now, I played this same country club in high school and while it was not the most difficult of courses, it certainly was no pushover. Stricker went out and proceeded to shoot 65-64. Mike Small shot 69-66 and MISSED qualifying. Those guys can flat out play...anywhere at anytime. I don't want to make a fool out of myself until I think I have the ability to compete at that level. I just do not yet, but I'm sure as hell working on i t.
  9. Her name is "Snooki". And she got punched by some random Queens gym teacher that was drinking their booze while they weren't watching.
  10. Playing once a week will still allow you to improve but you will reach a level to where you cannot get past. Golf requires constant attention, I've noticed that when I don't play for a couple of days, my touch around the greens is not quite as sharp. I play 4-5 times during the week and have an eighteen hole match with a good friend of mine. I like to play by myself during the week because it allows me to focus on what I need to improve. If you want to improve, you need to realize that golf is in individual sport. Yes, playing with a friend is more fun but it won't put you in the same focused state of mind that you will have if you're playing with people you don't know. The thing I don't like about playing with new people is how they always ask for advice. I try to offer it but you know, I'm out there to play and work on my game, not help some weekend guy that is playing golf now because it's the "in" thing to do. If you want some honest advice on how to take serious shots off your game, begin and end your round by spending 30 minutes on the putting green. Practice those 3-6 footers, start making them until you can do it with your eyes closed. How many of those do you miss in a round? You know how many times a pro makes one of those to save par? A good pro will hit a lot of shots to make birdies, but they also know how to scratch a 68 or 69 when their game is out of sync that day by making those types of putts.
  11. Play it from the far back.
  12. I have two drives that measure over 400 yards. Both were wind and cart path assisted. I don't know if that counts but as follows: 1. 460 yard par 4, smoked one down the left side and when I got to where I thought my ball was, it was no where to be found. Walked a bit further and saw a ball about 40 yards from the green. Got up to it, was my ball and had a big path gouge on it. My guess is that if it hadn't hit the path, maybe about 350. 2. 565 yard par 5, downhill and massive downwind. Teed it up high and just absolutely bombed it, my friend and I couldn't find it so I eventually just dropped a ball and played on. As I walked towards the green I noticed a ball in a fairway bunker about 100 yards from the green. It was my ball. It had also hit the cart path. Funny part about this story was that the people in front of my friend and I made a comment to my friend but he couldn't understand what they were saying. They were Japanese and told my friend "Zand"...apparently he didn't know that meant "sand" and said nothing to me. Longest un-aided tee shot. Probably about 370 downwind. Driver, 7 iron into a 540 par 5.

Should work now. Used to take the club away a little off plane, something I fought when I was a tad out of sync. Nailed this one though, hit it close and drained the putt.
  14. I love my two Vokeys but I think I will be changing them out. I dont want a Spin Mill anymore because I'm tired of destroying golf balls on one solid shot. I like the X Forged wedges but they have the MD grooves...what can I do? Hate this non conforming crap.
  15. At the BMW last year, Watney, Phil, and Dustin Johnson played in the same group the first day (the day I saw them) and they were just bombing the ball all day long. I think Glover will hang around the leaderboard all week, he could have easily shot 10 under if he hadn't doubled the first and forgot how to putt after 13. The only person I don't want to win is Ryan Moore. Yeah the kid can play but jesus, dress like a golfer, not like you work at a skateboard shop in Seattle. I'm just saying, golf is still a classy game, try to keep it that way.
  16. Hilarious...wouldn't be caught dead with a brush on a golf course. Wet towel is all you need.
  17. I have a 54 Vokey Spin Mill and a 60 Oil Can Vokey....I'm sure as hell thinking of changing though to the X Forged 52 and 58. You guys all like the Vokeys more huh? I just need to get rid of the Spin Mill, one pure wedge shot and a ProV1x cover is toast. That thing just chews them to bits.
  18. My goal is to sharpen up my short game and take advantage of my length off the tee. I've helped that by putting a new Diablo 3 wood in the bag. I also decided to pull out the 2 iron and put a hybrid in as well, I think this will help me attack both long and medium length par 5s and increase my opportunities. My last goal. To make more putts. That's what it's all about.
  19. What do you have to do to be established? New board looks good, slightly Halo-ish but good nonetheless.
  20. Who doesn't like bacon? Pride and joy of my xmas were the big bertha diablo 3 wood and hybrid. But, the coup de gras were the replacement dash knobs for my jeep. Hard to live in Chicago during the winter when you can't turn your heater up very much.
  21. Just my Jeep. Need nothing else...throw a set a clubs in with the top off and it's wonderful.
  22. Welcome. My gf's family has a place in Green Lake. You ever make it up there and play the courses at Lawsonia? They have two great, vastly different golf courses. Not sure how much $$ because I've never had to pay to play it but it is some damn good golf. Also, Baraboo country club is nice, just north of Devil's Lake, check it out. Basic course but interesting holes. have fun.
  23. Well, it's not due to injury but I will be retiring my 2 iron this winter. I absolutely love the club, it's a versatile club that carries just a touch of ego with it, but I am switching it out to an 18 degree hybrid. The deuce doesn't give me the option on hitting a 240-260 yard shot off of anything but a perfect lie so it was time to evaluate my game and make a decision. I'm sure that my first round where I don't have that shiny forged blade with 2 on it will be a sad one. But I imagine the first time I pure the hybrid from a mediocre lie over trees to a guarded pin, my sentiments will change.
  24. Just make sure you have some of some pad underneath the astroturf, if you throw down a piece of turf with nothing under it, you could easily bend you club if you're hitting down on it. (like a wedge or something) spend the money and buy an actual golf turf pad or something. dont take chances with your club, I hate this time of year but I'm lucky enough to live by some domes that I can utilize during these cold months.
  25. I picked Chick #4. I did that because I don't think the lid has come off the barrel yet. And quite frankly, Elin's sister could be on that list somewhere, and good lord does she look good.
