  1. Great stuff mvmac, thanks!
  2. I'm also very interested as a current evolvr student what the future is going to hold...
  3. Are there any specific elements of Rock's swing that stand out as opposed to the normal favorites like Charlie & Grant?
  4. Remember to bring plenty of cold-weather gear.... like shorts :)
  5. Yea I often record my practice sessions, that's why I said I know I was forward -- I was specifically referring to the weight-forward drill there, and had a mirror to verify things. This is mostly a speculation-type question, as I am normally focused on the drills & stuff that my instructor tells me to do. I am just one of those people that have an analytic mindset, I am always trying to learn new things. That and I love troubleshooting things, so I usually get ahead of myself in various endeavors... So with my regular practice & playing sessions, I'm not worried about getting my wrist turned as my original question, I'm focused on making a smooth clean swing with good contact, and hopefully get the ball somewhere near the fairway. What I'm just trying to get an understanding of is the role of that lead wrist at impact, to better understand the mechanics of the swing & such. The more I know, the easier it is me to figure out what I'm doing wrong when it all goes south during a game.
  6. So I've been working hard on my swing for a while now (#HiMvmac!) and seen fantastic improvement, but have been struggling with the dreaded slice. No matter what I seem to do it's there waiting for me... If it's not the slice then it's a straight push. Figured out in my last round that if I really flatten my backswing I can hit it straight, but it's still a push (to the order of 10-15 yards right @ 110 yards distance -- 7I shot). Went back to the basics, all the drills I've been working on and noticed that even on the basic weight-forward drill I still hit it right or slice. Now at that point I know that my weight is forward, club handle is forward, everything -- still goes right. So I started wondering and thinking (which usually gets me in trouble....) and I wondered if I'm just aiming my lead wrist to the right naturally. My left thumb points to about 1:45 - 2:00 when standing in a relaxed position. So on a whim I tried hitting some balls just thinking about turning that wrist a little more toward the target (supination of the wrist, NOT that active rollover release thing) and all of a sudden I'm hitting it great. The rest of my swing falls apart when I do that, but hey that's what practice is for. So the question I've got is am I on the right path, or is this something that's normally fixed via better swing dynamics? I would normally think that the left wrist should kinda be fixed automatically by the mechanics of the swing, but seeing how I can screw up the weight-forward drill has me wondering.
  7. 2 goals this year: 1) Break 100. The closest I've gotten is 105, I average about 108-115 right now. Biggest problem is monster slices, on the rare occasions I can hit my first two shots straight-ish I can usually par or bogey the hole 2) Break 90 :) This of course is dependent on #1 happening. I'm a evolvr member, and practice 5-10 hours a week before playing on the weekend, so I'm hoping these goals are realistic. But that 100 has been taunting me for 2 years now...
  8. Wow looks like the new set will be quite an improvement over the originals
  9. Interesting
  10. Thanks everyone for the help, I really appreciate it. It seems like the most common thing that I'm not using my hips properly and that I'm unbalanced (I've definitely felt that!)... Looks like I've got my work cut out for me!
  11. Here it is, in all it's glory (who am I kidding? :) ) Took a camera to the range today for the first time, it's very eye-opening to be sure! Some background, I'm still a newbie, only been playing since July of this year. Haven't had any private lessons (took a couple of group lessons, that was enough to get me hooked). Been mostly practicing like mad, lurking here, reading everything I can get my hands on, and watching lots of youtube vids. The main problem I'm trying to fix is ball flight -- I am fighting a push to the right, which turns into a bad slice if I don't get a good hit. Trying to hit a nice S&T; draw, no such luck. Not really sure why I can't do it either... Looking at the video I took today, I can see a few things (collapsing my left arm after impact, might not be getting my hips left enough, follow-through and finish look horrible), but I'm overall stumped. I could really use some advice for what I need to work on. Here's the vids, these were all hitting with a 7I The first one is a typical bad shot with poor contact, only goes a handful of yards -- I included it because of the direction the ball goes, that's my typical angle off to the right This second one is a bit better, still not good by any means Now for the FO shots, these were actually much better than the DTL shots First one was about 100 yds distance, and about 20y to the right And this one was actually my best shot of the day, 125 yds distance and only about 5y to the right (still straight, no drawing)
  12. Working on learning to swing :) I'm a beginner, first picked up a golf club in July of this year, was instantly hooked... Had a good stroke of beginner's luck, played decently for a newbie (better than my some of my co-workers who had a bit more experience), then as I tried to improve, well, everything fell right apart. Since then I've been lurking here every day, absorbing youtube videos, anything I can get my hands on. Did some video of my swing today, I can immediately see some problems with it but my #1 issue is pushes to the right & some slices if i really screw it up. So my goal is to learn to hit it straight-ish (trying to get the S&T; draw, no luck yet) and long-ish enough so I can go back out and enjoy the game.
  13. Or for any other reason -- I'm in Orlando and it was a great day to be outdoors, and is gonna stay that way for a while -- shorts & t-shirts all the way!
  14. I play at Celebration regularly after work (gotta love season passes), it's a nice course. Lots of native wildlife there (saw a gator off 8 last week, freaked my partner out). Definitely don't want to go chasing after lost balls if you can help it!
