  1. Hi all. I stumbled across these beauties at an antique shop in Eastern Kentucky. I wanted to share them in hopes someone could provide more information. I would love to know more. Especially specs like loft. The set goes 2-9, and then an 11. The little bit of information I have found puts these clubs at being manufactured in 1969. Any information or value is appreciated! Enjoy!
  2. I find myself looking at irons on eBay lately. It's a bad habit of mine. A few winters ago, I bought a set of vintage Hogans. They were kind of fun to kick around with for a bit. I played close to half that season with them even though they were way too much (or is it too little?) club for me. I still practice with them, but they're mostly collecting dust - some in the basement, some in the garage, and I have one (now two, actually) in the coat closet. Now I'm looking at Mizunos. Modern, though: MP 4s and MP 64s. Figured they're more playable than the Hogans, not that I'm in the market for new irons. Just kind of want them. I sold a set of Mizunos a number of years ago and I want another. I should actually get a new set of wedges if I'm going to buy new clubs, but another set of blades seems so much more satisfying for some reason. Winter needs to be over so I can go play and stop looking at stuff I don't need.
  3. Didn't really have anybody else to share this with, but I'm in the position to try out and buy a set of good condition Mizuno MP-33s. I would consider this my first "real" set as the first set of irons I bought were old CB Forged clubs, then I upgraded to a knock off CB GI irons (from Gigagolf). I like the clubs I have now, but I've always aspired to having a "good" set of irons, preferably blades. I generally consider myself a good iron player, my most consistent miss is hitting it fat/weight not forward enough at impact. What have your experiences been like going to a new set of "older" clubs been, or moving from a GI iron to a more players iron? Is it as simple as "if I hit the irons well and the price is right, go for it"?
  4. I bought a set of these just for the heck of it on eBay about a year ago, and I have no idea what they are. Looking them up online I can't find a picture or anything about them. Anyone what what they are or when they or made?
  5. Journey To The Center Of The Green By Shane Jones I wish I could just rename my blog the title of my new entry. However, if I can't it's all good. Anyway it's Sunday, well technically Monday wee hours... So this is part of my weekly blog. Recently, since my last lesson, back in February (remember Craig is in Florida for a month). I've added a new drill to my repertoire. It's the first move down drill. I have kind of explained it in the "5 Minutes Daily" thread (fingers crossed 20 days to go... Though I was so tired I put yesterday's date for today) It's really not that complex of a drill, and you can do it, with or without a club, I use my spatula at work, if I have a free second or 5. Basically, your trying to keep your trail elbow (In my case the right), close to your body, but at the same time, drop it down like you are going to "elbow drop" Randy Orton or something. (At least that's the feeling I get.) So this little drill actually is helping me with three things I tend to struggle with. 1) balance, 2) occasionally coming over the top, and 3) Flipping occasionally... If I don't have a club in hand, I try to think of the back of my left hand as my "clubface". Hilariously, my left hand seems to actually have some "shaft lean" at "impact". When I do it with a club, I don't have an impact bag, so I use my couch pillow and swing this to impact and I notice the same thing. I actually had the chance this week to hit my new irons a little with some real golf balls. Word to the wise, don't hit a Top-Flite or Nitro with a blade. (I didn't). They had some gamer Bridgestone B330-RXs that they were using for the monitor... The feel is absolutely amazing... If you are an improving player (5-12 handicap), I would recommend at least testing some out..... For whatever reason a well struck shot off a "Super-Blade" (enter my Exotics CBX Blades) even it is a smidge off the heel or toe... It actually holds it's line quite well... I still have the ability to hit some high shots, I suppose... (the data agrees too) for the most part, my trajectory is a little lower... now I've only tested indoors because let's face it, I live in Upstate New York, and the weather can't make up it's @#$%ing mind. (Like Steve Martin's boss in Planes, Trains, and Automobiles). I cannot wait to actually go outdoors and hit these on the practice area at Newman, in reality on the course. If any of you have read my 2018 Golf Goals thread my main key two were: 1) Average 9 GIR a round 2) Get my handicap under 5. I actually have a 2019 goal, however, it might require a lot. And @iacas would have to make the decision of having a cook on his team, who is way too smart to be a damn cook, who like to crunch numbers, like he does. I hope finances, family stuff, and my paid vacation work out to the point, where I can travel to the West Coast in 2019, and represent the East team and keep the Newport Cup. But @iacas, I don't know if you'll be able to stand all of my Exotics gear. I don't really do well in Blue, unless it's Newport Cup team East blue.
  6. Should I buy a practice set? I'm considering buying a practice set of players' clubs. I currently play Callaway Apex's, game-improvement, but my thought is that if I practice with some blades it'll lessen my misses when I take the more forgiving clubs out on the course. Has anyone done this and how'd it workout for you? I appreciate any thought, thanks.
  7. So I wanted to get people's opinion on bladed irons. Is there a point anymore to use blades? Or does today's technology make them obsolete? I know blades are hard to hit and if you don't pure them every time it's going to hurt you. But say for someone who does hit the ball on the center of the face 99% of the time, are they really that much better? I forget what irons he was using but I know a while back Luke Donald wasn't even using Mizunos MP-4s, he was using the set a step down. For someone his caliber you would think he could hit the ball with a dime welded to a shaft. But oh boy are they such a beautiful sight behind a golf ball!
  8. I bought a set of z58's black dots earlier this year in good condition (3-pw). It took quite a few practice sessions and rounds to get accustomed to them, but now they're flying straight enough for me. I was playing with cobra cavity backs before these and was a little apprehensive due the much smaller head size, but I think these z58 irons are actually forcing me to become a more consistent ball striker. They don't go as far as my previous irons. But I like that these blades are a bit more challenging to master and look better IMO. Anyone else play these irons, and do you like them?
