  1. Amazing video shows the difference between good and bad putts Ever wondered what a bad putt looks like in slow-motion? As you can see here thanks to this slow-motion video, it's... I’ve often seen skidding putts due to playing in the early morning dew. Many of them came from my old putter This is actually something I learned from the instructor who did my Edel fitting. He had a felt mat I putt from that would show whether the ball rolled or skidded. He actually recorded my old putter hitting the ball like this and I delivered so much loft to the ball that it actually started to spin backwards before it made contact with the ground. I’ve tried to do this myself but I don’t seem to have a slow motion camera with enough shutter speed to capture the line like this. Maybe it’s a lighting issue.
  2. A little help? I have heard a statistic over the years but never found a source: 85% of all missed putts are short. When I look at PGA stats, I see they track the number of putts, but not whether they were short (or broke below the hole) or long past the hole. Is anyone familiar with a study that has been done on this? Thanks
  3. Distance control is an "athletic" thing for most golfers. Unless you're Bryson DeChambeau, who knows that a 12" backstroke makes the ball go 15.739 feet (or whatever), players tend to putt best when they tap into their athleticism. That's why studies will point out how golfers putting from 25+ feet with their eyes looking at the hole often have better distance control (even though they slightly mishit some putts) than golfers looking down at the ball. Combine both: do what Tiger Woods learned to do from his dad. When taking his last look at the hole, he'd take a mental "snapshot" - a picture - of the hole, the green between him and the hole, his putt. Then, when he looks down at the ball, he sees the ball but he also sees the "photo" and then, per his dad's instructions, he "putts into the picture." I do this, and almost always have, even though when I started playing golf it didn't have a "title."
  4. I am on vacation in the Palm Springs area and played the La Quinta Mountain course a couple of times. Most of my shots were short of their normal distance. Even clubbing up was usually not enough. So I am trying to understand if this is something to do with being right up against the mountains? This is a Pete Dye course with various raised greens, but still.. Very little wind, temperature in the 60s, sea level altitude. Any ideas?
  5. Hi All, Looking to identify subtle things that affect distance control with short irons/Wedges. With some swing improvements, my ball striking has improved and is resulting in distances with my short irons (8-PW) to vary pretty wildly... about 20+ yards of difference. Shots are hit clean, pinching off the fairway with divot in front, sounds good too. However, I overshoot the greens sometimes, PW and AW and it goes the same distance (no fat shots)... basically my the club selections for the distances are off and is impacting scoring when i overshoot the greens on some occasions (for the same distance). Any tips on what keeps the distances predictable? (eliminating other factors like wind etc) Few things I'm guessing I'm going wrong is: Inconsistent swing speeds. Some balls getting hit with steeper angle when struck. Any tips here is very much appreciated, looking to some low handicappers helping me out here. Thanks.
