  1. Hello. I have Morton's neuroma in my right foot. I'm applying Ice hot with lidocaína and according to my doctor I have to wait for the next month to see any improvements or he has to do an injection. So does any one have experienced this ? Any advice for treatment or how to avoid this and other injuries? Thanks
  2. It seems like this past year or so I'm always having neck or shoulder problems. Just a few months ago, I was dealing with a scapula or trapezius injury on my right side that shut down my workouts for almost a month. Now I have a minor injury on my left side from last week. I felt a tweak in my neck on a swing when it happened but didn't think anything of it because that kind of happens once in a while, but there's a tightness there I haven't been able to shake and a noticeable weakness when I'm doing something like pullups. It doesn't hurt, but it's not 100%. I also jammed my right wrist on a fat shot yesterday and it hurt to extend my wrist (there was even discomfort just putting). Couldn't put any weight on it last night. That seems to have gone away this morning. I'm going out to play later and see how it feels. Probably going to shut down the upper body workouts for a week though and just do core and leg stuff. I've been doing a 90-day workout program since January, but due to one injury or another, I'm constantly starting it over. I think I've restarted four times now. I've never finished the entire program, but I'm also kind of bored of it, too. I decided to switch to a calisthenics program that will make things interesting again once I heal a bit from the most recent injury. There are a lot of pulling and scapula strength exercises in that program that I'm hoping will strengthen the problem areas for me to prevent injuries in the future. That and some of the holds seem really cool to learn to do. And handstands 😃
  3. I am coming back from a long term injury in my lower back. I am literally starting from scratch. I was playing at a 2 handicap when I had to stop and now it's been 14 months since I've played a complete round of golf with a score. My 2020 goals are to improve my fitness to a level commensurate with (amateur) tournament golf, rebuild my swing from the ground up focusing on driving distance and proximity to the hole on approach shots, and of course putting stats. These goals are in no particular order so my question is where would each of you start and what would be a reasonable expectation for a timeline? I am a very aggressive competitor and must find a balance between pushing myself by not settling for mediocre results and having the patience to fully bring myself back at a safe pace so as not to cause further damage to my back and shoulder.

  5. Hello there. I thought of buying some hitting mat in order to practice when I am not able to go to the course, but I started to read many users that had issues with their elbows for using those mats. Is it possible to use them without being injured? Would you recommend any mat? Thanks!
  6. I have had extreme pain for almost two years when hitting a golf ball to the point where couldn't play in any club competitions in 2017 and have only attempted a few this year. The pain is on the ulnar side of the wrist around the pisiform and PT joint. I have had an X-ray, MRI scan and two CT scans which have all come back 'fine' and therefore the two consultants I have seen have been unable to diagnose what the problem is. Day to day activities are not affected, there isn't any pain when pressing around the affected areas (making the consultants job even harder) but the pain when trying to play golf is unbearable. I have recently been given an ultrasound guided steroid injection but 10 days later it doesn't feel any different. As you can appreciate this is so frustrating given the length of time I have had the injury and the fact nobody seems to be able to diagnose it. Has anyone else had something similar??? I have spent hours and hours over the past 18 months trying to self-diagnose from the internet but given the complexity of the wrist and hand it is impossible. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. Ps. TFCC has been ruled out. Thanks
  7. So, I strained my right groin muscle about a month ago. It was feeling better - I still didn't have full power or speed yet, but it was coming along. I strained it playing soccer. Last night I really, really strained it. A good amount of pain. I finished the game. I iced it when I got home. I went to bed. At 5:30 I woke up and knew I was in some trouble. Before, I could walk mostly okay. Today walking was tough. Getting out of bed was tough. Sitting up after sitting down was tough. Coughing or sneezing made it hurt. It's probably a groin muscle, though IANAD. It's on the inside of my right thigh. Icing it isn't super easy as it feels deep and, well, it's right by my right nut, of course. Oddly my left arch/foot/heel has been sore the past week or so, perhaps as a reaction of sorts to the right ankle injury I just healed up from? I don't know. That's the least of my concerns now though… I can't really even make a golf swing. Ugh. It's summer, too.
  8. Hello, I am hoping someone has experience with this. I have titanium plates and screws on both bones in my forearm on my right arm from an injury. I golf right handed and I have stiff steel shafts. I am in pain 70% of my shots and my question is. Would graphite shafts be more forgiving on my arm? I’ve had the plates since I was 20 and I’m now 41 I doubt i’ll ever get them removed. i have a graphite shafted pitching wedge that I swing for fun and it seems to be less energy transferring to my bones but it is very flexible and obviously not going to match my swing speed. Thank you.

    Fan Proximity

    It's amazes sometimes just how close fans choose to stand and officials and/or players allow them to do so. This past weekend, watching Rory take a full swat off less than a favorable lie with what appears to be a very long, narrow hallway of fans, I was holding my breath . I'm particularly talking about those off the fairway, scramble shots where the open windows are anything but what most of us would attempt. Every year, fans get hit and some injuries are pretty nasty (see attached article).   10. I am subtitling this: “the Tao of Cipher” Last week I was able to play my first full round of golf in over two years. It was not pretty, but it was so much fun. I completely chunked about nine shots and I took at least 4 penalties. I had the absolute best time doing so. A co-worker and I took a couple business partners out and it was very rewarding to be able to do that again. All the hard work, patience and time weighing the tough decisions have been to the benefit of playing again without a concern at this point and without any sort of swing alteration to do so. I am incredibly pleased with the result and with being able to play again. It gives me great joy to know there are many days including yesterday in which my wife will mention the positive change she has seen in me. I don’t want to keep bringing up perspective, because I think it is and has been the least relatable thing in this blog so far based on the reactions and comments. I will just leave this series to be for now with a few final thoughts. This is probably one of the best things that ever happened to me, even if my wrist decides to give out next week. If everything continues to go well don’t be surprised if I play quite a bit less than I did in the past, but also enjoy the game more than I ever have. Don’t be surprised if I do not work on the swing at the same level or someday soon really at all. Don’t be surprised if there are days I would rather go throw a disc into some chains or go fishing with my son and daughter nearly every weekend. Don’t be surprised if I have little to no interest in playing competitive golf. I will however probably try and get the game in shape enough to qualify for and be part of the Newport Cup if I am lucky enough to be chosen. I was looking forward to that the last time and I would like to redeem that missed opportunity. I am most looking forward to meeting some of people I have not met yet from the site and also seeing those again that I have. Thank you to all who have read this series and have wished me well over these past couple years. If anyone comes across this blog in the search for information on this injury, please reach out to me if you are experiencing the same thing. I know the information out there is not great. I will possibly try and continue with another series of blogs in the future, but for this series on the “Reflections on Golf and Life After ECU Injury” I am signing off, for now. I find it interesting that early this week I was standing on the spot shown in the photo which is the 18th hole of my local disc golf course and an incredibly heavy feeling of déjà vu came over me. It was as if I were standing there for the first time I had ever played that disc golf course, feeling the weight of the injury and trying to find something to fill the void in which the injury left me with. It cracked me up a bit that back then I could not even throw the disc half way up the hill, and was probably thinking “What the **** am I doing here right now?”. I quickly snapped out of it at that point and took the photo as a memory and a reminder for what was, and how I have gown as I pursue the road before me. It is a bit embarrassing to admit how heavy the injury weighed on me at that time. The void I was left with was not because of the injury I experienced those two years ago, it was because of an imbalance in my life. The fact many of us live with so much abundance that this type of thing is something to be bothered by is not even fathomable to others. I keep coming back to that word perspective. This week I was able to work my way back to making full swings with the irons and the woods. I've been getting a little crap for the way the swing has held up after all this time. I'll admit, that makes me smile a bit, but my current elation over swinging the club like that again is not the same as it once was. It is no longer about trying to build a “perfect” swing in which I can hit a high tight draw at will. I mean, what golfer does not dream of that, right? Sure I still want to eventually play with some kind of playable pattern. However, every swing I make now is with purpose, it feels like a gift. It is not with a purpose for perfection it is with the purpose to fully appreciate each moment I am able to do so. It may be next week or it may be 40 years from now, but at some point I won’t be able to swing anymore. Until that time I intend to live in the chaos of it all with that purpose and I will be ready for whatever may come. If I am lucky enough to do so the next blog will be about playing an actual round again, and hopefully I’ll get a few holes on video as well.
  12. I made it back from our Florida trip on Tuesday night. It was great to get away from my crazy work schedule for a bit, and experience a little sun after the winter here in Wisconsin. We were able to go the beach and do a little fishing as well. My son and I both connected with Snook(bass like but longer fish) which is a lot of fun. Any time you can catch a Snook from the beach with an artificial lure, it is a very rewarding experience. On my lunch break this Wednesday I decided to head over to the range. It was time to give this golf thingamajig another go. I was confident that all the waiting and physical therapy post-surgery had brought me to the point that it was finally time to see how my wrist would hold up to some swings. I purchased the smallest size bucket of balls they had which holds about 30 balls. I did not want to try and hit too many balls at first as I would not be making full swings anyway. I took out a 7 iron and started hitting some little chip and pitch shots, it was going well, so I started adding a little more speed with each swing. This is not really news for those who have seen my swing thread this week, but I was able to work up to about 125 yard shots with the 7 iron. It was actually a little more aggressive than I thought I was going to be on my first time out. The wrist was feeling great though and I was elated that it was going so well! It was hard not to get a bit carried away after over two years of not playing. I even felt the wrist to be strong enough to hit a few light shots with my 7 wood as well. Today I went back to the range and was able to work up to about 150 yards with the seven iron. It was about 85-90% of a full swing for me. I also hit a few balls with the 7 wood again as well. I was again very happy with these results. The wrist feels a bit sore, but I think that is mainly because after the surgery it had not been used for many of the motions that are needed in the golf swing. Overall it feels sturdy enough though. Time will tell if the wrist continues to handle repeated swings, especially with the longer clubs. So far it feels great and I feel like the surgery was likely a success. It is difficult to describe how it feels to be able to hit golf balls again after so long of not being able to do so. Simple things like the sound of the ball contacting the face of the club head and the feel of a well struck golf shot are things I missed greatly. I miss the sights, sounds and smells of walking the course as well. I can’t wait to get back out there an experience those. As I have mentioned in previous blogs, my perspective is different now, and should there be any setbacks along the way I will be able to deal with it. However, being able to hit golf balls a couple times this week has felt like an incredible blessing and is so rewarding to do after all this time. One BIG step forward and I am looking forward to completing my return to golf.
  13. It is pretty incredible for me to realize that this Sunday, April 9th, will mark two years to the day since I was injured while playing golf down in Florida. I have not been able to play a round of golf since. It may seem to some that this is a pretty terrible thing for someone who loves the game of golf. As I have mentioned in the earlier blogs, it was pretty tough at first. I got through that season. The past two years have changed me in so many good ways and I am very thankful for what has happened and what I have been forced to learn through it. I am very pleased as I would image the readers of this blog are as well, to switch things from mostly talking about the past as it is time to start to discussing the future and what is happening right now. I will be back down in Florida next week in the same area where this all happened. No, I am not going to try and play my first round of golf at the course where this all happened two years ago. That seems like a bad idea to me. I grew up playing a lot of baseball, so I may have a few superstitions. I will just be taking a much needed break and get some rest from my crazy work schedule. When I get back however, I will begin taking my first swings at the range which will be the topic of the next blog, in about two weeks. I have been doing a lot of strengthening and stretching this spring, trying to get the wrist into shape. Does it feel the way it was before the accident? I am not sure it ever will. I do think I am as ready as I will ever be to try this again though. The wrist still feels strange some days. There is a dull irritating pain from either the scar tissue, or the surgery or nerve damage many days, but I think I will be able to play through it as long as the tendon holds in its place. I know I have been overly cautious along the way but I really don’t desire to have that surgery ever again. I needed to give it as much time to recover as I could allow. All that is left is each moment I spend in the present which will decide the future outcome of my love for playing golf. It is nearly time to get back out there and I would lie if I said I did not feel some sense of anxiousness about it. This time though, I have the strength and the perspective to handle whatever the outcome will be. For many of us golf is or has been more than just a game. I would truly miss playing and experiencing all the beautiful sights and sounds if this does not go well. I would miss the challenge of trying to better my play of it. I would miss the back and forth between good friends and competitors. When you are forced to do without however, you find these things are ultimately replaceable in some capacity, you find there are many incredible things to experience. So don’t be disappointed or feel bad if this does not go well. Golf may bring great enjoyment to us, but it should ultimately be nothing when it comes to happiness. I get that from things that truly matter. It is time to stop rambling though, and it is time to get to work. See you when I start swinging.
  14. Aug-December 2016 - I decided to take the rest of the year off from worrying about anything golf related. I had a lot planned for the rest of that summer and fall. I continued to play disc golf. I also played in a tournament later that summer. I enjoyed doing that and it was a great experience. I like playing in these tournaments because it is how you get an official player rating in disc golf. A player rating in disc golf is similar to a golf handicap but is also very different at the same time. For example, after the two tournaments I played, my current rating is 827. This is probably similar to a 15 handicap in golf or so. In disc golf a player rating does not really allow any two players to play each other under a system of giving strokes because of the way it is calculated. That may be one of the biggest differences. I do plan on continuing to play in these tournaments as I would like to eventually be closer to a 900 rating. The best players in the world for comparison would be around 1000-1050 rated players. This means there is a big difference between 900 and 1000 rated players. In August I was able to take a bow hunting trip with my dad and my son to Wyoming. Thankfully I have been able to pull a bow back even with the wrist injury and that injury is not really too affected by doing so. We were going after Antelope, and after a tough first few days of hunting I was able to harvest a very nice potential record book qualifying Antelope on the day before heading back home. We had a great time and created some great memories with my son. I also did a lot of fishing with my son, something he is incredibly passionate about. He had quite the year for catching many new species of fish and learning new ways to fish. In early September I took a fishing trip up into the northern part of the state and had a great opportunity to try and catch some Muskie and learn about doing so from @14ledo81. The plan was to get a nice one in the boat on what is one of Wisconsin’s better trophy Muskie lakes. Unfortunately the weather just did not cooperate for us but I had a blast anyway. We did get most of the first day in on the water, Matt raised a couple fish to his bait but they would not bite and I missed one on a top water bait as well. I am looking forward to working hard this year to get one in the boat. Cranking those big Muskie baits was great therapy for strengthening the wrist as well. The wrist continued to heal and I felt the strength and flexibility of the wrist improving slowly day after day. As the year turned to 2017 it was time to switch up my focus back to a potential return back to the golf course.
  15. March-July, 2016 - I did not know exactly what to expect when starting physical therapy. I have been lucky enough in the past not to need it due to any other injuries or procedures. One of the first things we tried to do was to check the range of motion. I simply held my arm on the table and tried to rotate the wrist back and forth, palm up and palm down. I was very surprised, as I think the PT was as well, that I only had about 10 degrees of wrist rotation available to me at first. I continued to do the therapy over the next couple months and the wrist very slowly began to regain the mobility that it had before the surgery. What the Physical Therapist told me is that everyone is different when it comes to getting mobility back after having something immobilized for a while post-surgery. Unfortunately I turned out to be one of those patients who struggles to regain the full range of motion quickly again. It further delayed my attempts at getting back out on the course. Around July I finally felt like I would be able to try some light swings. I had been doing the PT on my own at that point and my first range session went pretty well. I was able to make some very light swings with an eight iron and I was pretty excited to start swinging again. The next time that I went out I decided to try a few longer irons. Even though I was again trying some very light and easy swings, this time with the longer irons I felt some instability in the wrist and immediately stopped swinging. There was not a lot of pain, but I decided to shut it down and wait until the spring or 2017 to start swinging again. Trying to get to a point of playing in the late season was just not worth the risk re-injuring the wrist again if it was not quite ready. At this point in my life, I honestly was not very bothered by the situation. In the early part of June I attended an intensive four day leadership program down in Houston Texas which was possibly the most difficult thing I have ever done, but it changed the way I look at and approach all of life’s challenges(long story). I was having a lot of fun playing disc golf, traveling, fishing and hunting with my family at the time. There was and is just so much to be thankful for and golf is only one of many things I enjoy to keep myself active. I was not about to allow the setback of not being able play golf to still to affect me negatively. Heading into the late part of summer, I was about to have an incredible rest of the year.
  16. February, 2016 - The first afternoon home from the surgery was not too bad. The meds were kicked in pretty strong and I had very little pain. The toughest thing that day was just the annoyance of having to hold my arm up in the air to keep the swelling down. I did not walk around much as the weight of the cast was enough that I decided to lie down and elevate the arm for the most part. The next day however, things were much different. The wrist area was not really in much pain, but my left shoulder was in some pretty terrible pain. I think it may have been a combination of the way my arm was positioned for the surgery and having to hold the arm and weight of the cast chest high whenever I moved. I had to deal with this for about two weeks until I had the cast removed. It was not the most enjoyable two weeks I have had. When they removed the large cast, they put me in a much lighter weight splint and that was a huge relief to me. I was a bit surprised at the size of the incision in the wrist and that the doctor also had two smaller ones. Looking at it gave me the sense that I was going to be in for a long road to recovery from there. The wrist felt incredibly stiff, I was really not expecting it to feel quite that tight. The good news is that unless I was trying to take the splint off for showering the surgery itself had relatively low levels of pain. View only at your own discretion. This is how the surgery looked and was a little shocking to me when they took the big cast off. Also the second picture shows the lighter splint that they initially put me in as well. Another two weeks later which was one month post-surgery they reduced the size of the splint so that I could bend my elbow. That was another step forward at that point and we also scheduled some physical therapy. I was very excited to start rehabbing the wrist and to get the mobility back.
  17. February 2nd of 2016 came quickly and I was ready to get the surgery over with. I was a bit nervous about the procedure as this was my first real surgery. I really did not know what was going to happen when I woke up and how difficult recovery was going to be. The doctor had explained to me what was going to happen. He was going to do an endoscopy procedure in the wrist first to look at the damage, as the MRI results did not really show everything that he wanted to know before beginning the actual surgery. The worst case scenario was that would have to replace the sheath that cover and holds the ECU tendon in place, and at the same time would need to essentially deepen the groove in the Ulna bone that the ECU tendon itself sits in. This would allow the tendon to become a little more secure against the bone as well. They got me ready for the surgery, the anesthesiologist came in and got me set with the IV. The last thing that I remember is being wheeled into the surgical room and being put on the surgery table. The next thing I realize is that I am waking up. I regained consciousness in the recovery room. It was a bit strange as I was expecting to feel very groggy and pretty weird but I woke up surprising clear. Those drugs were a bit disappointing. The nurse came over and asked me how I was doing and I said I was fine, except for the GIANT cast on my left arm. I was a bit shocked at the size of it. I was expecting something that ended before the elbow, but it was well past the elbow and was very thick and heavy(twss). It turned out that the thickness of the cast was for allowing some swelling and the length was to eliminate any forearm rotation. The doctor explained that he did have to fix the TFCC and the ECU was actually not quite as bad as he feared. It did have a bit of a tear in the actual ECU tendon itself, which was something the MRI did not pick up. He cut the torn portion out. The subsheath that holds the ECU tendon in place was not torn as originally thought, but it was stretched out so he just had to tighten that back down. He also decided that he did not need to deepen the groove in the Ulna bone as he saw that the biggest problem was just all the damaged and irritated scar tissue in that area. Other than the 20lb weight attached to my left arm I was happy that everything seemed to go very well.
  18. I had a lot of fun playing disc golf, but the fall of 2015 came quickly and I started to prepare for an attempt at swinging the sticks again. I went to the range in the middle part of September and tried some very light swinging. I was not hitting the ball far at all, but it seemed to go pretty well. I was just taking half swings with some wedges and a 7 iron. I was happy with the results and so the next week that I went out I decided to try and use a couple long irons. As soon as I started trying to swing the longer clubs, even with the half swings, I immediately started having problems with the ECU tendon snapping out of place again. In my mind I knew I was probably not going to get better without the surgery. It was time to schedule the surgery at this point. The only remaining issue with the decision was really a financial one. My health insurance is a Health Savings Account (HSA). Usually there is a reduced premium with this but it comes with a sizable out of pocket deductible. It was $4500 in my case for the family. We had not really used much of our deductible up for that year. I decided to wait until January 2016 to have the MRI done for the surgery so we could have it all taken care of at the beginning of the year. That way any additional medical bills for my family and all my additional physical therapy would be taken care of for that year. It delayed things a few more months, but I was good with the decision based on the financial practicality of it. I never had an MRI done before and have to say that was quite the awkward experience. I did not really think I would have a problem with it, but there were a couple moments I had to find a “happy place” in my mind, so to speak. The MRI technician was also getting a bit frustrated trying to get me to lay still for 5-7 minutes at a time. I had to re-do a couple of the scans. We managed to get it done though and my follow up with the doctor to tell me the results was a couple weeks later. The meeting with the doctor was quick. He basically told me the MRI results showed I had two problems. There was a problem with the ECU as we already knew. There was also a tear in the TFCC in the wrist as well. I was not really sure what this was, but it was in the same area as the ECU and also possibly why the injured area was not healing naturally. I was glad to have the MRI results and we scheduled the surgery for February 2nd. I was very much looking forward to getting this over with.
  19. The struggle of not being able to play anymore was tough during the summer of 2015. I felt pretty helpless about the situation and was not really sure what to do. I began to slowly unplug golf from my life. I stopped watching and talking about golf as much as possible. Basically I tried to eliminate anything that would cause me to think about not being able to play golf. I took a necessary break from posting on this site for a while as well. There are a few people from TST that continually checked in with me during this time, and I am grateful for that. They know who they are, and probably don’t feel it necessary for me to mention them by name. But they should and I hope do know how much I appreciated it. I started to look for new ways to keep my mind off golf, stay active and be challenged. I knew that @iacas played some disc golf, so I started asking him some questions about it. He recommended a few discs, I picked a couple of them up and took them out to a field to throw. It was pretty awkward at first but seemed like it could be fun. I headed to the course about a week later to try and play for the first time. It was a lot of fun playing disc golf that day, so it was something that I started doing many mornings before work. I even played in a recreational tournament a couple months into playing and I enjoyed doing that. It was fun watching how other more experienced players played the game. As I got better throughout that summer it was fun to learn about all the different ways a disc can be thrown and how they act differently in flight based on the disc design. Disc golf is very much multi-dimensional and there are so many types of shots you can play. You can literally have a disc curve in two different directions left and right. You can sidearm or backhand the same disc for different throws, play skip shots, throw the disc upside down, and you can even get some to flip over enough that it will roll a long way. It is a lot of fun to watch. Should I be back on a golf course this spring, I don’t see disc golf ever going away as I have come to enjoy it so much. It is less frustrating to play in general for me, the rounds are quick, watching a disc fly on a good throw is so cool, it is cheap because most courses are free to play and the average cost of the best discs is only around $15 each(unless you become addicted to buying discs like I am).   20. After returning home I made an appointment with an orthopedic doctor who specialized in hand and wrist treatment. He did an x-ray to rule out the possibility of any broken bones in the hand or near the wrist. The x-ray showed that there were no bone problems in the wrist. The doctor thought I likely had some kind of tendon problem near the wrist. He really did not know or maybe want to say what at that time. He thought I should first try to immobilize the wrist and put it in a custom splint for about a month. I was asked to check back with him a couple weeks after taking the splint off. He originally thought I would be back playing golf very quickly. This was one of those situations however, where you just kind of know the outcome may be different based on what your body is telling you. I had a sense that this was not going to be a simple rest and recover fix. After taking the splint off, it still did not feel right. I would continue to have the popping near the wrist with various movements. It was not particularly enjoyable, and the wrist was in a constant state of irritation. I decided I was not going to make it any worse by trying to swing a golf club at that time. I also started to notice that the tendon on the outside of the wrist near the Ulna bone would often visibly appear to pull away from the bone itself and stick out. I started to figure out which type of wrist movement was bothersome to the injury. The two main movements that bothered the area were Supination and Ulnar Deviation. Two movements that are also very much used in the golf swing. After doing some more research I started to get a sense for what might be wrong with the wrist. The problem was somewhat rare, both as a sports injury and in general. I made another appointment with the specialist to try and see if he would give me the actual diagnosis and confirm my thoughts on what the injury was. I started to become very worried about whether or not I would play golf again that year.
  21. At the end of the summer I suffered a broken foot after participating in a 5k for charity event, shortly before leaving for college, and it left me away from golf clubs until now. I have not swung a club with the intention of hitting a ball in about 3 months, and I desperately want to get back to where I was a long time ago. Over the summer I became obsessed with knowledge, and I attempted to Self-Diagnose my own swing, and those of you on here that are instructors, you know how bad that truly can be. This caused me to refuse advice from obviously more qualified individuals than myself, and ultimately ruined my golf swing. A short subscription to evolvr fixed some of the issues, but it just wasn't the same as being in person for a lesson. My question to all who read this is, if you were in my position, where would you start? I'm not sure what club to pick up first, metaphorically speaking. I already contacted my colleges Golf Team's Instructor who is kindly willing working with me, for a fairly decent price. Outside of lessons, I'm not exactly sure what I should be doing. I practice swing feelings all the time, and I truly mean all the time. Any time I get a stick-type object i swing it like it's a golf club, but I'm not sure what more I should actually be doing. I am planning on going to the range once a week. I am a full time student so any more is putting a lot of pressure on me in terms of grades, job, etc, and I just wouldn't have time. Aside from that, I'm looking to re-read Lowest Score Wins, and be more active on this forum. Hello again everyone!
  22. I've been having golf elbows on my right elbow (I'm right-handed) for over 4 months now. I've been golfing for about 20 years with no elbow issue until now, I swing rather slow and rarely ever go to the range, and whenever I go to the range I only hit off the grass, never on a mat. I also don't play often, averaging 3 times a month in the summer so I can't figure out how I could have caused this injury. It started late last year, however I still played with it because it only became painful towards the end of the round so I've always managed to complete all 18. However I stopped playing since early last December hoping to recover over the winter time. I'm quite disappointed that it hasn't improve, it hurts whenever I lift something or use force on my right arm certain way. I'm going away in a couple of weeks on a golf trip where I'll be playing golf everyday for several days, I went to a simulator last week to get some practice and it started to be painful after swinging for about 10 minutes, I'm not sure how am I going to enjoy this trip with this pain. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
  23. Only been playing 6 months, and admittedly I am no spring chicken, however this is crazy. I have shoulder impingement in my right shoulder, tennis elbow in my left arm, I am starting to get golfers elbow in my right arm, and my left shoulder is also showing signs of impingement. I spend the evening transferring ice packs and heat pads from one part of my body to another. As well as this I have tried various exercises, which to be honest appear to make the problems worse. When I play, I go out on the course strapped up like a mummy, covered up by a jacket so I don't look to stupid. Someone once told me golf was meant to be good for you! What are your stories about golfing injuries, and have you any advice regarding my falling apart body ?
  24. I have a question for everyone, especially the older golfers like me. After you play or practice, do you have any kind of aches and pains? I'm 62, and I am finding that I have to take at least a day or two in between practicing or playing. I have little backaches, or my elbows are sore. I wind up taking anti-inflammatories to deal with it, Advil and the like. Lately, I have been taking Advil prior to playing 18 holes, to suppress any minor back twinges or elbow pain in the middle of the round. These are minor aches and pains, but they can be distracting and affect my swing during a round, hence the attempt to suppress them. Does this seem normal? Does anyone else go through this?
  25. I developed "tennis elbow" in my right elbow (right hand player). I do not play tennis. I don't think it was from playing golf and was by bad ergonomics working on a computer all day holding a microphone, but it gets worse playing golf. Tried one of those braces you put in the upper forearm with minimal relief. Just ordered one of those braces that will put heat or cold over the outer elbow. Someone suggested an injection of steroids but I think that would mask the problem. I am doing some forearm exercises, not playing as much and changed the way I do some things at work but not much improvement after 2 weeks. Has anyone had this problem? Any suggestions? Thanks
