  1. Hey all! So, I’m convinced that I’m in need of new (stiffer) shafts in my irons. This is based on a few data points: 1) I have a two way miss that I am having great difficulty correcting. Either a push straight right, or a hard overdraw/hook. I read that some who have too-flexible/light shafts can have this miss pattern. Seems to fit my situation. If I S L O W my swing down, I can straighten it a bit, but it feels unnatural, like I’m putting the brakes on my swing. I’d rather swing full. I feel like I’m walking on a razor with the ‘right’ speed, and I’m thinking it would help to have something else that I can’t overpower so easily, and so I can commit to each shot. Basically, 2 out of 10 shots go straightish. 4 go left, 4 go right. I do not have a problem with contact anymore. I get it ‘up’ plenty easily, and don’t hit it excessively fat or thin very often these days. (Just a little fat/thin, haha). About 8-10 times or more per round I hear myself say ‘yeah I hit it good, it just went way left/right!’ 2) I’m 6’2 with about an 88mph 6i swing speed. Carry it about 175 or so. Distance is not my problem. Even losing just a bit would be OK if I start hitting it a good deal straighter. 3) I’m playing stock Ping AWT R-flex shafts in my G15’s. These shafts weigh 99g. Pretty light compared to almost any Stiff flex shaft out there. The ball launches high, and I do like that. But if something stiffer would drop the flight a bit, but keep me straighter... I’m interested. When I bought the irons new, my swing was (more) crap, and I couldn’t generate too much clubhead speed. The salesman/fitter said I could go with Stiff graphite shafts, but since the R’s were steel, they would play ‘stiff enough’, anyway. Probably/possibly true back then (2012), definitley not the case now. So... I have tried the online fitting sites from True Temper and KBS, and though I can play with the answers to the questions a bit, I get vaguely consistent results. Normally I’m guided toward KBS Tour S, KBS Tour V (Stiff), KBS C-Taper Lite, or Project X 6.0/5.5’s. The problem is, I have no idea what each of these shafts would really do for me. My number one goal is to significantly straighten my ballflight and tighten my dispersion. Secondly, I would like to keep as much distance as possible. Trajectory is of less importance to me, but medium to high sounds good. Of course the best thing to do would be to go get fitted for shafts. I could answer all my questions in an hour or two. Unfortunately, where I live now, (Japan) there are not any places that I know of to go get fit. Plus the language barrier could be an issue. Does anyone have any specific recommendations or experiences on any of the shafts I mentioned, or any others that you know to be similar, or that may help me achieve my goals? Especially interested if your numbers are similar to mine. Most of the shafts I listed are about 110g in weight. Seems like 10g up won’t throw me off too much. Does that sound reasonable? If I can, I will figure out how to get fit here in Japan, but I am also browsing eBay for shaft sets and have come close to pulling the trigger a couple of times. I just want to avoid any extremely costly mistakes, if possible. Thank you for reading my novel, and I appreciate any feedback. I do have a ‘my swing’ thread if seeing me swing my 6i would be helpful.
  2. I have an old off-brand driver with an Aldila NV (green) 55-gram shaft. I hit the ball dead straight but would like to see a slightly higher ball flight. My clubhead speed is about 88 mph. Any recommendations for a driver shaft that would help me achieve a higher ball flight without breaking the bank? Thanks.
  3. Anybody here have any feedback on the UST Mamiya Recoil 660 shafts? I think these shafts have been out for a while, but they came out this year with a "new" 660 & 680 Recoil shaft. Just wondering if anyone has heard anything about them, or hit these shafts? Are they soft or firm, true to flex...anything? I am looking to put them in some Maltby DBM iron heads. Thanks, guys!
  4. So I was able to get my hands on 8 Precision rifle shafts from before the True Temper acquisition. IMO these shafts feel much better than post TT rifle shafts or Project X rifle shafts. I always used the same guy to install my clubs but he retired about 4 years ago and I have since moved to Maine and don't know a soul. I found a local PGA pro around here who says he is willing to install the shafts for me. They are pre-cut with the longest shaft being 41", not sure what the shortest is. These are 5.0 shafts and I am wondering if any special "trimming" is required as is required with PX shafts or other Rifle shafts or can you just cut them to the length you want? I have done some searching and cannot find a definitive answer, any in-site would be much appreciated!!! Also does anyone else have any experience with using the older model Royal Precision shafts as compared to the newer Rifle shafts? I've heard the PX shafts play much stiffer and each shaft weighs exactly the same whether it's a 3 iron or a PW. As compared to older rifle shafts where each shaft has a different weight and different kick point. Thanks gentleman!
  5. I wasn't sure what to call this thread, however, maybe the mods, can re-title it if need be. As most of you who read my posts, I am big Tour Edge Exotics guy. I'm a walking billboard. As @WUTiger put it, I'm a staff player. I'm thinking about getting S-flex shafts or a slightly lighter X-flex for my woods/hybrids. The driver I would just need the shaft and adaptor for. But would the 4-wood and hybrids they are bonded. It's not that the X-flex is too stiff. I think I could get a little more distance with a little softer or lighter shaft. (So basically I'm finally listening to the fitter). Now here is where it gets interesting. I can get the Driver, fairway and hybrid for less than it would cost for the 3 shafts. So here's the questions, full clubs or just the shafts? Suggestions on a good X shafts in the 68-72 gram range? I thought Red Tie but they don't make X flex.
  6. Hello, i am wondering on if I should get x-100 shafts. My coach said I should 100% get them because I hit my 7 iron 190 carry on track man and like 182 on course and I hit it high. My club head with 6 iron was like 95 mph I think. Just let me know what u think.
  7. After 2 back surgeries I want to change over to a single plane swing. When it comes to shaft sellection, does anyone have advise on flighted shafts or standard shafts? Shaft length will be the same 4-7 & 1" shorter 8 - wedge. Gap and sand wedge will be standard lenght.
  8. Hi I have a ton of shafts and grips that I inherited. How can I find out how much they are worth? Are used shafts worth anything? Thanks in advance for your advice.
  9. I feel like I'm getting pretty familiar with some of the better brands of shafts and all that but when I read some people's posts regarding highly customized/special shafts I get lost quickly. The buzz words that got me thinking, were "low launch" and "high launch." I had no idea that was a specification. I wasn't fitted for a driver during my fitting, they just basically told me the stiff flex was good and that I should cut down on my shaft by some amount. So I got it cut down. I know there are shafts that can cost SEVERAL hundred dollars. I'm not that guy. I groove my swing to make good shots. I don't care about having an absolutely optimized swing at the tune of several thousands of dollars. I ain't got the skill for that anyways. My question is: just how much benefit can an optimized driver shaft yield? Of course there's several variables, including what current shaft you're playing and your skill level and such. But seriously, are there single digit players that can get double-digit gains in distance by a sweet new, optimized shaft? Or is it more mild than that? I'm really liking my driver swing and distance right now so this is really a question of curiosity.
