I have played right handed golf from day 1. 
 

I have contracted Parkinson’s disease about 10 years ago. (From being exposed to agent Orange in Vietnam. 1966-1967)

Recently, my golf game went from the Mid to upper 80s to having a difficult time breaking a 100. 
 

Being left hand dominant, on a whim, I borrowed my friends driver, 3 wood, and 5 iron. 
immediately, I hit the best balls I have hit in years. 
 

All of my golfing buddies say since I am left handed, I need to switch. 
 

I was trying to shot my age (78) this year or at least get close.

Your thoughts, please.

If you want to get a better gauge of the wind. Go to the national weather service. If you type in the zip code for the location of the course, at the bottom of the page there is a clickable image for a graph of the weather, Hourly Weather Forecast. 

The graph will have surface wind (33-FT above ground), but it will tell you the direction the wind is coming from (i.e. out of the north). If you want to be really technical about it. Going from 33-FT to 100-Ft in height, you are increasing wind speed by about 25% as well.

2026 TST Birdie Challenge - Google Sheets

Please click through, add your name, home course, and location, and when you make a score on the holes as you play them, update your line in the spreadsheet with your ringer score, basically. The idea is to score a birdie or better on each hole on the course this year.

If you're above a certain handicap and would like to make it a par challenge, go for it! Just add that note to the Notes column.

Please leave the formatting as is. And note that you only write down one score - if you birdie a hole three times, you aren't writing down -3. It's just your best individual score for each hole.

We can all cheer each other on and see where this takes us!

If you truly play a TON of different courses, then follow these two guidelines:

• If you just play a lot of golf, but still get 20 or 25 (or more) rounds in on one course, consider making that your home course and just doing the birdie challenge there.
• If you truly play only 20-40 rounds per year, and never more than a handful at the same course, consider trying to birdie holes numbered 1 to 18 across all of your courses. Or even doing it twice. Yeah, some hole #17s will be easier birdies than others, but that's why you might do it twice.

Yeah, I get the point of it to mix teams up and get to know other/new members, but I honestly can't be bothered.  Would much rather that they play it as a SWAT format - still A-B-C-D players, but you only count the lowest gross score (no gimmes).  

I just don't get the point of scrambles beyond people who love to booze it up and they are always rife with cheating. 

Does this course have a play and fly special?

I have a mid am competition stating this friday and I normally clean the grooves of my irons before a tournament I consider important, but never came to mind to clean the grips. 
Yesterday after cleaning the grooves I proceeded to clean the grips, after letting them dry they were supper grippy, even more than when they were new.
We will se how they are in a couple of days at the course, if they feel the same I think i will keep doing this before each tournament I consider important. 

I have an H4 also, and will be reviewing it (briefly) as well as the Pro LX rangefinder, which has a magnetic area for the H4 to "dock":

The three of us (and many others here) view this as a replacement for the GAME Golf, which if not dead, appears nearly so.

It's okay if you tell me I'm overthinking this. 😂

I don't want to upgrade to a newer set of clubs without having a fairly good understanding of my fitting/sizing. I have long arms, longer torso, shorter legs (Alpine Man build).

And here is what our results look like between the three using some impact tape (7 iron).

The red dots do sit upright at address, and I can't see how you would make solid contact with the toe up, but contact at swing does not equate to address, I realize that. But the tape shows red dot hitting mostly off toe.
The Orange Dot and Brown Dots are similar. But I think orange dot is also a bit more toe-oriented (there is one mishit on there that looks heel but I recall that as a mishit).
The Brown dot seems most proper on the face, albeit slightly more dispersed.

I am thinking I want a flatter lier - that I am a Brown Dot and not an Orange Dot. I will hit one more session using a 5 and a 7 to be sure (I had only enough tape for a 7 this time).

Thought you guys might find it interesting. The lie angle definitely matters.

What have been some great formats to have or any other experiences with these events.  

This is a panel discussion regarding a player who shot 60 the other day.  Although there is no proof he cheated, his school has a history of cheating.  They were disqualified a few years back.

Oy.

I get what Brentley is saying, but if this is your pre-shot routine… then you're not ready to play high-level tournament golf. It's unfair to your fellow competitors (particularly those in the group with you, and those in the group behind you).

Anyway, he sends me a very excited text" Russ, i have just seen this bloke on the net with a fool proof swing, check him out he's call Jim Venetos"

I humoured him and took a look. Some of you may have seen him. He presets, as he puts it "setup, backswing and impact and plays from a position" by pivotiing on to his lead foot then swings his arms with no lower body movement. He wants about 85% weight on the lead foot.

My mate kept on at me to have a look so to shut him up i tried it. Put it this way, contact was easy and power seemed ok, but holy crap, the amount of pressure it puts on the left hip was imense and i still aching!

I dont want to tell him not to use it if it works....but..... could the pivot/twist onto the lead foot then the lack of "give" during the swing cause pain in the hip?
