Volume Four Hundred Seventy-Eight

Jason Day, ladies and gentlemen. Jason. Day.

Hittin the LinksJason Day outlasted the best field in golf to take home the crystal at the Players Championship, shooting a Sunday 71 to cap off a dominant week. Day opened with 63-66, and didn’t take his foot off the pedal, even as the conditions worsened over the weekend. The win at TPC Sawgrass is Day’s seventh in his last 17 tournaments.

We also take a look at Rory’s continued (relative) struggles, get an update on Olympic golf, and sneak a peek into the continued awkwardness of Tiger’s post-Thanksgiving life.

Let’s hit the links.

Hole #1: Jason Day Wins at TPC Sawgrass
Is it being talked about enough that we’re witnessing history here? Seven wins in 17 events. If you don’t love Jason Day, his story, and his family, you’ve got a heart made of stone. [ Link]

Hole #2: What’s in Jason Day’s Bag?
We might see those sticks in the hall of fame someday. [ Link]

Hole #4: Rory Not Quite There
Rory is one “I’m getting stuck in my downswing” comment away from doing an amazing Tiger Woods impression. [ Link]

Hole #5: Jeunghun Wang Wins Mauritius Open on Euro Tour
Wang is the first back-to-back winner on the European Tour since (and this is going to sound weird) Rory McIlroy won the WGC-Bridgestone and the PGA Championship in 2014. I told you that was going to sound weird. [ Link]

Hole #6: Trey Mullinax earns first Web.com Victory
23-yea-old Alabama product Trey Mullinax won the Rex Hospital Open, finishing with a 68 to best Brady Schnell by two shots. Mullinax made up a five-stroke deficit over the final nine holes for his first Web.com Tour win. [ Link]

Hole #7: The Continued Saga of Golf at the Olympics
As excited as I was for golf to be in the Olympics, it’s just been one setback after another, on both the players’ side and Brazil’s side. [ Link]

Hole #8: PGA Tour Embrace Virtual Reality
Can you imagine reading that headline 15 years ago? Welcome to the future. [ Link]

Hole #9: Tiger’s Exes Get Together at Kentucky Derby
It’s a little less awkward when you realize that they probably saw each other all the time to hand off Tiger’s kids. But only a little. [ Link]

  1. Jason Day really is on fire at the moment! As someone else wrote, he hits it miles and pretty straight, pures his irons and has a fantastic short game. Not much left to work on there and his story is such a great one you’ve got to love the success he’s having.
