Nike Juice to Launch in November

The Nike Juice ball arrives at our offices and plays off Viagra and other ED medications, among other things. Have a look.

Nike Juice LogoNike will introduce a new golf ball on November 1. The “Juice” is a 312-dimple surlyn-covered golf ball designed for more carry and distance for the low- to mid-head speed player who “needs a little more Juice.”

Nike sent The Sand Trap a unique teaser promotion for the new ball, and though it doesn’t quite suit my game (I’m a dyed-in-the-wool Pro V1x kinda guy myself), I’ve got to give the marketing and sports equipment giant props for thinking outside the box on this one.

We’re bored today, as the Ryder Cup is still a few days off, so we’ll give this little deal the full treatment. Read on for pictures and more information.

Woohoo! My BALCO order is here!
Errr, no… but you have to question the balls (or sanity) necessary to call a golf ball “Juice” in this modern era, don’t you? We’re not the only ones to question this, too. But Nike’s Cindy Davis responds by saying that she believes consumers will find the campaign funny and that they’ll appreciate the tongue-in-cheek jab at a “prescription” for more distance.

Nike Juice Teaser 1
The Juice box arrived much the same way as you might expect porn to arrive: in a non-descript brown taped box.

Nike Juice Teaser 2
The box reads “GINORMOUS HUGANTIC DISTANCE!” and pokes fun at Viagra and other male sexual enhancement drugs. There are a few too many “balls” jokes to be made here, so we’ll leave it alone. For now.

Nike Juice Teaser 3
This “ATTENTION” message is repeated on the small slip of paper inside the “sample” pack of balls.

This reads “A user’s enhanced distance and scoring may adversely affect the moods of playing partners. While the flight and trajectory of the Juice ball are extraordinary, this does not give the player the ability to fly. As always, Nike Golf recommends that you play responsibly.” A Red Bull joke mixed in with a Viagra punch line? Really?

If you think I’m going to type all that out, you’re nuts. And it just so happens I too am bored (and nuts), so here you go:

GINORMOUS HUGANTIC DISTANCE!

FOR EXTERNAL USE ONLY. CONTAINS 2 WHITE PILLS TO MAXIMIZE LENGTH AND IMPROVE HANG TIME. REFILLS ARE ALLOWED.

Why did it take so long to develop this amazing ball? That’s a question for the ages, like “Why aren’t there bullet proof pants?” The important thing is this: the Juice ball is here! And it’s totally legal so far as you know.

Nike biochemists spent years of frustrating trial and error in their search for pharmaceutical grade distance. The lab soon developed a raw form of Juice that revealed a psychokinetic bridge between the musculature of the golfer, the response capabilities of the ball, and the emotional reaction to a shot well struck. In the endless search for perfect contact, Juice was the cause and awe was the effect.

Today, Juice is a completely safe and consistent ingredient of total game satisfaction. It is 100% naturally synthetic, 200% organically industrial, with 300% free-range rubber. That’s 600% of pure performance!

ACTIVE INGREDIENTS:
Juice Cover: A perfectly spheroidal Surlyn caplet embedded with hundreds of sculpted recessions to control directional agitation and wind puncture. Gets you higher and straighter with more carry. Not available in chewable form.

Juice Core: High velocity and low spin enhance length and reduce side-effects of flaring or ballooning. Low compression is easy on the system. Insoluble in water.

DOSAGE: Start with one Juice ball in the morning. Take with black coffee. Will take effect immediately after stretching and wagering are complete. Do take Juice and drive.

Nike Juice BoxAt the Nike Juice site, you can watch a Nike Juice ball being fired through a jar of mayonnaise, a birthday cake, and a jello mold. You’ll also soon be able to vote on what should be “juiced” next, and choices range from a lava lamp to a bunny. I certainly hope they mean the chocolate Easter variety… I wonder if they used the same high-speed camera used to capture Tiger’s swing.

  1. Grrr. I hate Nike. I hate that they have the most hip, clever marketing and ad campaigns in the business. I hate that they have signed so many of the PGA Tour’s good players. I hate that their age’s old “Just Do It” campaign says it all about sports (and sports psychology).

I even hate that I still can sing the song behind one of their first shoe commercial’s back in the early 90’s. (Walkin’ on down by the golf course… watchin’ them golfers golf. Watchin’ them hit them golf balls, drivin’ in their golf carts…)

Bah. Humbug. If bad taste is hip, with this campaign Nike is the shiz. The Masters will never be the same for me since I will forever more have to watch replays of that stupid Nike ball (that nobody else on the planet can buy) teeter on the edge of the cup and fall in. Blah!

Buying your way into a market with sheer money power doesn’t do it for me. Give me Karsten Solheim in the 60’s making better clubs in his garage.

The Juice? Nice balls. I’m not buying.

  2. I wonder if Nike will have Bonds, McGwire, and Sosa in their add campaign for the Juice ball. Better yet, how bout OJ Simpson.

Just another ball to confuse the public about their product line. Mojo or Juice.

Good luck with the ball to Nike. I doubt we will see Tiger or Wie hitting it.

  3. Do we need the Juice?
Hit softly instead of going puce!
    Another Nike hit they say,
    but will it hold sway?
You know your going to try it,
    It’s Nike’s way.

  4. There’s nothing better than an playing hooky with your regular foursome, breaking 80 for your first time, out driving everyone by thirty yards, and hearing your boys say “he’s got to be on the juice”.

  5. Well I guess that Nike believes that 20% of the market is not necessary for this one to fly down the fairways. If they intend to grow the women’s market this is certainly not a way to achieve success. “Tongue-in-cheek”, heck why aren’t they blue?

  6. The juice is loose! I was given two of these balls by a golf analyist, and they are a good ball to hit! I have never been much of a Nike golf ball fan, usually hit Maxfli, but I may switch now that the juice has been unleashed.

  7. A friend gave me one to try.
After 3, I questioned whether they were legal.
After 9, I thought that at 77 I had regained my youth.
After 18, I was eight strokes below my usual score.
    I bought a dozen.

  8. I purchased a sleeve of these balls at Golfsmith about two weeks ago and just used them on May 12, 2007 (generally I use PRO V1’s or NXT’s). On the front nine par 3’s I used a tee they (the balls) were very nice. On the back nine I hit them off the deck on the par 3’s they played the same as they did on the front nine. However, I did find that on a bump and run they were a about 5 to 10 yards long, once you make the adjustment you will be ok. With my X-460 driver I placed this ball about 290 yards out (carry about 270). The launch angle was great. The ball feels great, I am going to switch.

  9. Found one of these balls in the rough on the 17th; teed it up on the 18th. Drove that thing further than I have ever hit a ball in my live, and it dribbled right into the middle of the fairway. I plan to take a sleeve with me next time out, so we will see if they are for real…looks to be that way.

  10. I have tried a bunch of different balls (my dad is a marshall) and the JUICE is by far, my favorite. Maybe its in my head?Who knows, but I shoot lower with them!!!

  11. I dont get why everyone is complaining about the marketing of this ball. It is creative fun, and hey, this is the best distance ball ive ever hit.

  12. I have never hit the ball as long as I did yesterday when I purchased my first new sleeve of Nike Juice. After my drive that landed 367 yds I was convinced this was the best ball i had ever used. typically i drive 315.

    bfoy

  13. I found one of these near the end of a round and had no idea what it was. One of my playing partners said they were new. I joked that it was probably a ladies ball. On the 18th hole I drove this ball farther than I have ever been on this hole, easily by 50 yards. That’s why I’m looking the Juice up on the internet. Now I know why it went so far. I’m going to buy some.

  14. Regardless of Nike’s cutesy marketing, I too have had surprising first results from the “Juice”. As with other here I found one in good shape on a hole a couple of weeks ago. It was under a bush and the sun hit it at just the right angle so I could see it better than obviously the person who had hit it earlier that day and lost it. Its been in my bag for those two weeks. Action was slow today on the course so I had time to hit it finally – after a good initial tee shot. The hole is a 325 hard par 4 with a creek running in front of the green right at 300 yards. Usually this requries for me a lay up (275 or so) and a short pitch for a good chance at a bird.

What the hell! I hit the Juice figuring the worse that could happen was that it would go into the creek. The ball didn’t cost me anything so I let it loose. Even with a pretty stiff cross wind the ball landed on the green. The ball bounced once and trickled to an easy eagle location. Needless to say I was surprised BUT unusually golf shots come along for everyone once in a great while. That’s why we all keep playing.

Now one shot with a ball is hardly the measure of its worth so as it was getting late I met the club pro who was hitting driving range balls he’d collected during his final inspection of the course over the tall fence into the driving range area from the first tee. He hits the ball a bit further than do I but not by much. Anyway I teed up this juice thing for him so that he could not see the brand and had him hit it down the fairway of the number one par 5 (512yds). He killed it. His first response was that it must be an illegal ball. He had to have hit it well over 350 (long for either of us considering the extremely plush fairway of this first hole – i.e. little or no roll). I borrowed his cart and retrieved the ball, telling him I’d tell him more about it tomorrow and went directly to the chipping/pitching green. It chipped and pitched (70 yards or so) extremely well, would bite if hit down on firmly and putted surprising well. It was by then nearly dark.

I will try this ball tomorrow. Hell even WalMart carries them. The point is that I would not discount the prowess of this ball for those who are not too proud to use what is ostensibly a consumer grade ball. More later as I put it through the varied pace of 18 holes but my first guess is that this one may be a real sleeper. I must say it was nice to hear similar experiences on this forum.

  15. The juice is by far the best ball I’v ever hit. I’m only 16 but I play golf every other day so I’v had my fare share of balls good and bad. This is the only ball after every shot I murmured silently to my self WOW!!!

  16. I have been using this ball now for a few months.I golf nearly every day. I have a high swing speed and due to advertising believed that the pro v1 or the nike one platinum should be my ball of choice . But for my swing speed this ball works just fine. Not only do I get incredible distance but I also get a fair amount of spin on the ball as well. I would give my recommendation to try this ball to anyone. It does work.A+++

  17. I just bought this set of golf balls today at wal-mart.

I have a simple question; does this ball follow PGA rules?

  18. I don’t believe in miracles but after playing the “Juice” for a few rounds I can say that miracles do happen. As a Super Senior player I was able to reach some of the par 4 and par 5 holes in regulation. Wow, what a ball. All you older players should really look into purchasing some of these balls. You will be amazed how far you can hit them without any great effort at all.

  19. I definatly agree with tartanjack
nike sucks… even though the clever wording catchy phrases and “hugantic distance” i am still saying that nike is overrated
I mean nike has sponsered like 50% of all pga pros, leaving the remander of golf companies in the dust by the Nike war machine. I personaly think nike buys its way into publisity by making the most expensive products that are not usualy the best, like tartanjack said i hate watching golf on tv seeing the majority of pros strutting down the fairway with nike $1000
golf bags and wearing nike threads hiting crazy expensive nike golf balls that nobody else on the plannet can buy. i am a fan of the underdog you could say but at least im not contributing to the rampage of buying your way into publisity, making expensive but crappy products, and putting your name on… everything so in my opinion
juice: might be a good ball (probably not)
    funny but shallow phrasing
and is crapping on the little guys

  20. Shut up you haters!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This ball is purely amazing! I am 16 and I Drive the ball 270 but with this ball I can hit a power fade 290 let alone a draw which I can hit 310 😈

  21. 😛 Found this ball; used it the last month and have changed my scoring from the 90’s to the low 80’s! I am very happy with these results and it is time that I buy a box of Juice balls for continued use. I am glad to know that it is a legal ball!

  22. Wedna if you had done your research you would find that Nike isn’t in the top categories of any kind of equipment counts. Driver count almost always goes to Taylor Made, and Ball count always goes to Titleist, and Nike’s stuff usually comes in at prices under most other brands. If you want to talk about expensive equipment, take a glance at Callaway. Nike is still fairly new to the golf game, and just because they happened to pick up the now World #1 doesn’t mean that they buy their way into anything. On any given day the only thing Nike tends to lead in numbers is total wins.

In no way is Nike crapping on the little guys.

I bought a box of Juice balls to try them out, and as a person who hits with more spin than I would like they were great for me, and at $20 a dozen, who can beat that. I bought my second dozen the other day. Nike has proved themselves to me.

  23. Interesting comments! I have been play Titleist NXT and LXX. I have a moderate swing speed and normally drive the ball 230. I work at a golf course and have a pick of many “used” golf balls. Recently, I picked up some Nike Juice balls and have played 2 rounds with them. I normally shoot in the high 80s and low 90s. With the Juice ball, the last two rounds, I shot in the low 80s and hit longer drives, better approach shots and hit more greens in regulation. The course I play has four par 4s over 400 yards! Yesterday I had 7 pars and missed 3 putts that looked in but didn’t go in. Everything else is the same – same guy, same equipment, same golf course – different results. I am now buying a dozen “unused” Juice balls to see if the miracle continues! The ball appears to live up to its claims!

  24. I asked Nike what replaced the old Mojo ball. They said the Juice. I tried a few and were good balls with plenty of distance, but the cover is diff than the Mojo and feels a little harder. Did not seem to stop as quick on the greens.
Nike also recommended the Ignite as a replacement with better green control, and I thought overall those were better. I was not looking distance, but looking a good ball for the whole game.

I also use the Nike One Black and Plat. Much softer, but for the money I’ll just stick with the Ignite.

  25. Hey,
I think these Nike Juice balls are great!!!! My daughter gave me dozen of these balls for Christmas and I got a hole in one today with one of the Juice balls. I’ve been golfing for 42 years and this is the first hole in one that I’ve ever gotten.

Was it the Juice ball? All I know is that I was hitting it LONG and Straight. (smile)

    True story!!

  26. Started playing golf again about year ago hadn’t played for almost 20 years. A friend who lives on the golf course was giving me good used balls he found on his daily walks. I was glad to get them as I would need a dozen balls on average to complete a round.

One day on the third hole I dropped a Juice in place of what ever I had just sent out of bounds and across the road. I played that ball for the next 13 holes until hitting it in creek on the 16th It was the first time I had ever even gotten close to the creek from the tee. You better believe I went through that bag of used balls looking for another Juice (couldn’t find one).

I’m through with lost balls and buy only the Juice now. If I loose more than 3 balls I’ve had a bad round. 3 balls a round 12 balls around. Its working for me.

  27. I found a juice yesterday golfing and I tryed it. It was great it put an extra pop in my swing and really “juiced” up my distance.
    A must have ball
    312 dimples!!! 🙂

  28. Don’t you think people should score under a certain number before spending more than $25 on a dozen balls?

  29. What a fun ball!I I have always been pretty long but a 318 yard drive and I am two weeks away from my 64th birthday. My one buddy is still scratching his head.
