This might just be me, but I hate having separate clothes that I wear to golf in and that I wear everywhere else. I consider myself a stylish guy, and since I can remember, I’ve had a separate wardrobe dedicated to golf appropriate attire (Ashworth polos, khakis, etc.) and then my everyday clothes (more stylish shirts, pants, etc.). Having all those different clothes drove me crazy, it was just too much. Not to mention my golf clothes were really dorky looking, and I hated that. I remember in high school, grabbing a bite to eat after a tournament and seeing a girl I liked at a restaurant and being embarrassed because of my golf attire. It just wasn’t cool.
Now, as I noted in a previous review, companies are beginning to make clothes that help with performance. Additionally, companies are beginning to make clothing that is stylish and looks good on and off the course. J. Lindeberg, Nike, and Rosasen are really pushing golf apparel to the point of being stylish and ahead of the curve, and I couldn’t be happier.
I recently picked up some Rosasen clothing to wear around Washington D.C. during a few rounds of golf and out for a few drinks with some friends to see if I could begin eliminating some of my dorkier golf apparel from my wardrobe. I picked up the Rufus pant, the Wally and Al polo, and the Harlan shorts.
Fit, Feel, and Style
As you can probably tell, I am somewhat of a clotheshorse and consider myself to be a part of the new breed of golfer, so finding the Rosasen brand was a pleasure for me. To me, the new breed treats golf as a lifestyle and incorporates their style to the game, and this is the basis for the Rosasen brand. As the founders, Chris Rosaasen and David Kasischke, say, “We found ourselves staring at a huge niche for the new breed of golfers out there who respect the traditions of the game but really want to wear something that is cool and relevant to their lifestyle.”
This can be seen in their clothing. Some of the game’s greatest fashions (plaids, cardigan sweaters, etc.) are modernized into items that are made of high quality fabrics, full of color, and follow the current styles of moment. The quality of fabrics they use is incredible. The fabric of the shirts is soft and is a higher quality than you’ll find in many golf shirts. They’re soft to the touch and would look good with a blue blazer over them to have cocktails after the round.
The fabric of the shorts and pants is durable and extremely comfortable. The Rufus pant have a satin fabric in the pockets, so when you put your tee in your pocket, you can feel the luxury and quality of the pants. The shorts have a rip-stop fabric which means if your get a tear in your shorts, the way the fabric is constructed will prevent your shorts from ripping further.
All of the items fit very nicely. The shirts were more fitted than the most polos. They weren’t tight, but not too baggy in the body of the shirt and was more of a “slimmer” fit. The length of the sleeves was spot on, with the end lying just above my elbow. The shirts come in standard sizes (small, medium, large, etc). The pants and the shorts are flat front (no pleats) and fit very nicely. The pants and shorts only come in even number waist sizes (i.e., 32, 34, etc). If you order the Rufus pant, you’ll need to get the length of the legs tailored to fit as they come without a specified length.
One of the first things that impressed me most with the Rosasen brand was the details with each garment. I believe the details make all the difference, and Rosasen does them right. The shorts had a golf patterned lining of the shorts, the rip stop fabric and the tag-less label on the inside of the t-shirt. On both the shorts and pants, the inside of the waistband had a pattern that really added to the look of the pants, even if no one will see it unless your pants are off. The pants have a Scottish-type plaid around the base of the pants and the shorts have a band around the waist and bottom of the short leg that is a golf pattern with sand bunkers, greens and water hazards. Very cool. One of the details with the shirts is the band around the bottom of the inside of the shirt and behind the buttons of the shirt. On the Al polo, the white band contrasted the pink shirt and looked incredible.
The Feedback
I wore the clothes out on the course recently and I definitely looked better than my playing partners. While they were wearing their latest boon-doggle free polo shirt with “Insert the name of the company” patch on the shirt, I was wearing a yellow Wally polo with slate rip-stop shorts.
I got some good feedback from my playing partners as they showed interest in where to get some for themselves. Something else I should mention is that the shirts (at least the ones I had) are very bright and bold colors. The Al polo I had was a bright pink and the Wally polo was a very intense yellow. When playing with my friends, I wore the Wally polo and my friends were overwhelmed with the color. I even earned the nickname “Sunshine” for the round, which is better than the other nicknames they have for me (but that’s a whole different story).
I also wore my Rosasen clothes out for a happy hour with some of my friends. Normally, I’d prefer to be tossing back a few pints at places where flip flops and t-shirts are welcome, but sometimes you have to venture out to other, more sophisticated places. So I go meet some friends at a bar that had the name of a flower or something and served martinis. I felt “in place” and definitely didn’t feel like I was too dressed up or too casual. I wore the pink Al polo with the Rufus pant. My girlfriend and her friends loved the clothes. They kept saying how nice I “cleaned up”.
Conclusion
Buy Rosasen clothing. If you’re like me and are bored with your khaki’s and Ashworth polo’s, give these clothes a try. I was in Urban Outfitters the other day and noticed that the Rosasen apparel is being sold there. They’ve recently launched a women’s line of clothing and it’s gotten the approval from my girlfriend (at least from looking at the catalog).
Go pick some up at Rosasen.com.
Man those models in those photos have got to go…
Why doesn’t the “remember me” button ever work here?
disagree mediaguru. the blonde model is super-hot. Can’t say that about the color selection in their line of clothing… or maybe I’m just too old to recognize style in Howell’s or Garcia’s attires….
🙂 I think this apparel is appealing to the eye and the guys are super sexy!!! Golf clothing acctually looks decent. I think it sends a good message and has a strong statement. I think it says..”Even though this sport isn’t considered sexy, I know i look good in my golf gear which makes the clothing and the guy..desireable!!!” One last thing it screams confidence…and not to toot my own horn but i’ve been told too many times i look like Eva Longoria so if you ever want a brunette to sport some gear email me!! I will send a resume. Love Britta
