Volume One Hundred Three

Better golf equipment technology becomes the scapegoat yet again.

Hitting the LinksHunter Mahan and Jay Williamson provided some great entertainment as well as some bonus coverage on Sunday as they battled down the stretch at the Travelers Championship.

This week we have a recap of the Travelers Championship, the Wegmans LPGA, and a reversal by Mr. Finchem of the sudden need for drug testing on the PGA Tour.

Tour Edge Exotics CB2 Fairway Wood Review

The Tour Edge Exotics CB2 not only could kick your current fairway wood out of the bag, it may also be gunning for your driver as well.

Tour Edge Exotics CB2You may have seen the Tour Edge advertisement for their new Exotics CB2 fairway wood that boasts of a guarantee that you will gain an additional 20 yards compared to your old fairway wood. It’s a pretty bold statement and one that is sure to grab golfers’ attention as we all strive to add additional yardage to our game.

I had the opportunity to test the CB2 to see if this small company from Batavia, IL might have the best fairway wood you’ve never heard of.

To be fair, my current fairway wood is a Titleist 904F with a True Temper Dynamic Gold steel shaft, so I was bound to gain some additional distance just by switching to a lighter head and a graphite shaft. Just how much distance was a bit surprising. Did it make me reconsider my steel-shafted ways? Read on to find out.

Volume One Hundred Two

At the end of the day, Oakmont took the best golfers in the world out behind the woodshed for a beatdown.

Hitting the LinksThe USGA protected their precious score of par and the Oakmont County Club members must have had evil grins on their faces as their course took the best golfers in the world and smacked them silly.

Only one golfer broke was able to break par twice over four days (Angel Cabrera), Saturday’s leader Aaron Baddeley throws up a final round 80, and Tiger Woods still has not won a major when trailing.

This week we have a recap of the U.S. Open plus a Father’s Day story that golfers can really appreciate.

Volume One Hundred One

Adam Scott should start calling in sick on Sunday.

Hitting the LinksWoody Austin (funky shirt and all) throws up a 62 in the final round while Adam Scott implodes yet again while holding the Saturday lead. And I wonder if there isn’t a little part of Suzann Pettersen thinking about what might have been if only she had held onto her lead at the Kraft Nabisco.

This week we have a recap of the Stanford St. Jude Classic, a couple of great children’s charities, and memories of Arnold Palmer’s last U.S. Open round.

Inside the Ropes at The Memorial

Tag along with a media rookie at The Memorial.

Memorial LogoI had the opportunity to attend The Memorial Tournament last week at Muirfield Village Golf Club in Dublin, OH with our editor, Erik (who took about 2000 pictures over the week). After my experience, it’s going to be tough to go to another tournament as a regular spectator.

This wasn’t the first tournament I’ve attended. I previously attended the 2002 PGA Championship at Hazeltine National Golf Club and the 2004 PGA Championship at Whistling Straits, but it being inside the ropes as a member of the media provided an entirely different feeling to the week.

Read along as I share some of my thoughts on being a media rookie at The Memorial.

Volume One Hundred

The last time I played a 288-yard hole, I got a seven.

Hitting the LinksRain delays stink for television viewing and poor Rory didn’t have Tiger around to spout off about. Oh well, he gets a nice plaid jacket to add to his wardrobe for his troubles.

This week we have a recap of the Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial, a top-ten list you do not want to be on, and a par three on which you need to hit driver.

Volume Ninety-Nine

Zach Johnson just petitioned the PGA Tour to hold all events in Georgia.

Hitting the LinksSure, the one weekend in which I didn’t watch any golf we have the Cinderella story that is Zach Johnson winning again, Lorena Ochoa continuing to dominate the LPGA Tour, Padraig winning on his home turf, and Seve making his debut on the Champions Tour. I need TiVo!

This week we have a recap of The AT&T Classic, an Irishman winning the Irish Open, and and some numbers to make your head spin.

Volume Ninety-Eight

You have to wonder what Rick Smith is thinking about his former pupil.

Hitting the LinksI know the PGA Tour guys play for a ton of money and that this is their livelihood and all, but man do they play slow. The biggest culprit to slow play in the United States might be watching Tour players and their pre-shot routines. Just hit the ball!

Good drama with Sean O’Hair matching Lefty down the stretch until he hit a couple of balls that needed life preservers on the most over-hyped hole in golf. And just what the heck is up with Sergio and his relief drops?

This week we have a recap of The Players, the Michelob Ultra Open, and a gracious display of charity.

Volume Ninety-Seven

Tiger three-putts, Mi Hyun Kim misses a five-foot putt to win in regulation, and why the heck is Nick Faldo so nice?

Hitting the LinksThe Wachovia served up some double and triple bogeys down the stretch to make Tiger’s latest victory quite entertaining. And not to gloat (ok, maybe a little) but I had Steve Stricker on my team in our fantasy golf league (along with Mr. Woods).

This week we have a recap of the Wachovia Championship, the SemGroup Championship, and the double standard that exists on the PGA Tour.
