MacGregor Releases MT Line

MacGregor Golf goes back to some classic styling and releases some fine looking clubs in their MT line.

Bag DropThe folks at MacGregor Golf have been making golf equipment for 110 years. Recently, some profitability issues, ownership changes, and some rather bland product lines have made them almost an afterthought in today’s golf equipment world.

Happily, those days seem to be in the past with the release of their new MT line of clubs that include drivers, woods, hybrids, wedges, and five new iron sets. So come along as we peruse all that MacGregor Golf has to offer.

Getting Ready for Spring

Spring is right around the corner! Are you ready for some golf?

Bag DropI’m doing something a bit different this week for The Bag Drop (don’t worry, we’ll get back to introducing you to new clubs next week!) and instead focusing on a great event that is coming up for those of us who live in the northern part of the United States.

That’s right, golf season is right around the corner. And it couldn’t have come at a better time for those of us who’s cabin fever is driving them (and our spouses) nuts. George highlighted a few items last week and that got me thinking about what I need to do in order to hit the ground running for the fast approaching golf season.

Hopefully some of the items below will help you out a little bit in getting ready or serve as a reminder that you should start preparing today.

TaylorMade Launches Tour Burner Driver, Irons, and More

TaylorMade has a new driver with 1,071 sets of different launch conditions to choose from. Ouch, my head is starting to hurt.

Bag DropThere have been a ton of new clubs released in the past few months, and the folks at TaylorMade are jumping into the fray as they have a couple of new drivers, new irons, and a new wedge coming out just in time for spring.

I was able to take a closer look at several of the new offerings while attending the Minnesota Golf Show last month and I think TaylorMade has some pretty nice clubs coming out. I’m looking forward to see if any of their new offerings will knock out my golf bag’s current occupants.

So come along as we check out what TaylorMade has to offer.

TaylorMade Rolls Out the Rossa Monza Spider

TaylorMade comes out with a spider for a putter. Don’t be scared, its a cool spider.

Bag DropAh, it’s finally March, which means for us in the non-golfing areas of the United States, we can see the light at the end of our long, dark winter and finally play golf again.

What does that have to do with TaylorMade’s new Rossa Monza Spider putter? Not much except that you’ll be able to roll one of the bad boy’s out on the putting green when they become available to the golfing masses later in March.

The Rossa Monza Spider has already appeared in the winner’s circle as J.B. Holmes used one to win at the FBR Open about a month ago. Let’s take a look at one of the more interesting looking putters for 2008.

Gary Sherrell – Inventor of the ClubGlider

ClubGlider inventor and Fore Inventors Only finalist Gary Sherrell gives us the scoop on how he came up with his idea on a napkin and dishes some dirt on being on a reality show.

Throwing Darts Today’s interview is with Gary Sherrell, inventor of the ClubGlider travel bag which was one of the finalists on the Golf Channel’s Fore Inventors Only show.

Gary was nice enough to give us a few minutes of his time to share a bit of history behind the development of the ClubGlider, his relationship with Sun Mountain as well as to provide some insight on some of the other products featured on the show. We hope you enjoy the interview.

ClubGlider Rolls Out for 2008

With the ClubGlider, you can roll through the airport in style and save your back in the process.

Bag DropIf you watched Golf Channel‘s Fore Inventors Only show last year, you would have seen some “interesting” ideas that the contestants were hoping would be “the next big thing.” While some of the ideas were strange, impractical, or just plain stupid in my opinion, there were a few that were of particular interest to me. The ClubGlider belonged among the latter.

ClubGlider inventor Gary Sherrell signed a licensing agreement with Sun Mountain in 2007 to “perfect, manufacture and distribute the ClubGlider golf travel bag.” That’s a pretty sweet gig as Sun Mountain has been around for over 20 years and the Missoula, Montana company has been pretty innovative when it comes to bags, carts, and outerwear. The ClubGlider and Sun Mountain seem like a perfect fit.

Cleveland Golf Launches HiBore XLS Line: Driver, Fairways, and Hybrids

Cleveland Golf comes out with a new sweet spot for their HiBore.

Bag DropThe folks at Cleveland Golf have been quite busy as of late as they have introduced new putters, a couple of new iron sets, as well as the latest incarnation of the HiBore drivers, fairway woods, and hybrids – all within the past month.

The “scooped-out” shape still remains in the HiBore XLS line but new for this year features a higher Moment of Inertia (MOI), more customization options, and even larger heads.

Let’s take a look at version 3.0.

Cleveland Golf Introduces VP Milled Putter Line

Cleveland Golf cans the insert and goes milled for 2008.

Bag DropNow that Cleveland Golf is getting settled in with their new parent company, they can get back to the business of what they do best: making golf clubs. What they are coming out with however, may surprise you a bit.

Cleveland Golf purchased this little putter company called Never Compromise back in 2003 and has had pretty good success on the PGA Tour with the distinctive black and gray putters. While still maintaining the Never Compromise brand, Cleveland continued to make its own line of putters and is coming out with a new line in 2008: the VP Milled putters.

Let’s take a look.

Tour Edge Adds Two New Drivers to Exotics Line

Tour Edge would like to add some magnesium to your golfing diet.

Bag DropQuick, what is the first thing that pops into your mind when I say Tour Edge? Reasonably priced clubs that always seem to make all the “hot lists” and score well on club tests in various publications? A lifetime warranty for all their clubs? The crazy-long Exotics line? I’ve never heard of them?

If you answered one of the first three then you already know what I am talking about. If your response was more along the lines of “never heard of them” then you may need to get out a bit more as the folks down in Batavia, IL make some outstanding clubs. We came away quite impressed by both the Exotics CB2 fairway wood and the Bazooka GeoMax driver in reviews last year.

Keeping with that tradition, the Exotics line has added two new drivers for 2008, the XCG and the XLD. Sporting some fancy technology, these two new drivers should be on everyone’s demo list. Unless of course, you have something against hitting the ball far.
