Volume Seventy-Six

I wish real life had TiVo so I could fast forward to Friday and get the Ryder Cup underway!

We’re only days away from the Ryder Cup and I swear every passing minute is that much longer than the last!

To tide you over until the Friday start, we have some great links that look back on the Ryder Cup past, a wide assortment of analysis and course diagrams for the upcoming matches, as well as another PGA Tour veteran getting his second win this season.

Enjoy the links!

Hole 1: Ryder Cup Through the Years
Ever wonder who won the 1972 Ryder Cup? Well now you don’t have an excuse to know. The link discusses some of the key wins by both teams, and what the final score was that year. [Link]

Hole 2: Meet the United States
In case you’ve been hiding under a rock for a couple of months, this is the team that is going to be representing the U.S. this weekend in Ireland with some great information and analysis for each player. Does it scare you to know that the player with the best Ryder Cup record for the United States is Phil Mickelson at 9-8-3? I know it scares me. [Link]

Hole 3: A O-K Club
I have to admit that I haven’t had a lot of time to check out the K Club’s layout before the Ryder Cup. Because of that, I thought those of you who were in the same boat as me would appreciate an 18-hole overview of the entire course. [Link]

Hole 4: European Squad Analysis
Quick, what is Colin Montgomerie’s record at the Ryder Cup? You mean to tell me you don’t know? Well you don’t have any excuses after opening this link. Take a moment to better acquaint yourself with the enemy; or if you’re from Europe, I guess they would be the ‘good guys.’ [Link]

Hole 5: Careful Curtis
Ben Curtis was a one-hit-wonder after winning the 2003 British Open. He couldn’t win to save his life, kept missing cuts, and seemed to float off into oblivion. That was until this past week win he won his second PGA Tour title of the season. I think the guy is for real now. [Link]

Hole 6: Casey Strong in Final
If you didn’t know, there was another golf tournament going on this weekend – the HSBC Match Play in England. Paul Casey bested American Shaun Micheel on Sunday in the final [Link]

Hole 7: Mock Ryder Cup Pairings
I know we won’t see the Ryder Cup pairings for a couple more days, but I thought this article made some great points as to which players would make the most complimentary pairings in the team portion of the event. I would have to say that I agree with almost all of the pairings this guy came up with. [Link]

Hole 8: Palmer Passes
PGA veteran Johnny Palmer passed just a couple of days ago due to deterioration in his health over the last couple of years. Palmer won seven times on tour during the 1940s and 50s. [Link]

Hole 9: What is to Wie
I keep asking myself what Michelle Wie is doing on the PGA Tour every time she tees it up with the guys. I guess I’m not the only one wondering what her intentions are, either. [Link]
