Why didn’t the Officials take control and clear all those people from that so called bunker? We couldnt tell it was a bunker.
The sand trap ruleing against dustin johnsen should have been setteled with one simple question. Are people allowed to be in standing in a bunker while a player is taking a shot. Thats it, they were.
Find a ruling that says they can’t be…
The right call was made.
Find one that says that’s a sand trap! It was the wrong call and poorly handled by PGA officials. The only one that doesn’t have black eye in this affair is Dustin Johnson who handled it with class.
Look no further than the definitions in the Rules of Golf, and then Rule 13 for the penalty, with the PGA’s notice to players earlier in the week as further proof, which basically said “all bunkers will be played as bunkers.” The GolfTrax animation even displayed the bunker as a bunker.
Sorry – it was the right call and correctly handled by the PGA. Dustin did handle it with class, I will agree with that.
Folks, this isn’t a matter of opinion.
I’ve got an opinion. The PGA needs to find real golf courses to hold its tournament on. Kohler spends a ton of money to build a “links” course with non-links greens. Then he probably paid the PGA a bunch of dough to hold tournaments there. 2004, 2010, 2015 and the 2020 Ryder Cup. Then Kohler can charge tourists $340 plus $60 (and suggested $35 toke) for a mandatory caddy plus $30 for a forecaddy.
If I recall correctly, Valhalla was a similar deal. The PGA should use real courses like Olympic, Pine Valley, or Baltusrol. But those course probably wouldn’t pay to host the tournament.
And shame on Johnson’s caddy for not warning him that he might be in a bunker. And it was very candid and enlightening that Watney admitted that the pros don’t read the local rules.
“And shame on Johnson’s caddy for not warning him that he might be in a bunker.”
More of a shame that Johnson didn’t read the local rules for the event. He’s supposed to be the boss.
