It’s hard to believe the 2007 PGA Tour season is already a month and a half old, but it’s the truth. It’s been a year of close calls for many of the world’s top young golfers. On the other hand, Vijay Singh and Tiger Woods have already found the winner’s circle. The inaugural FedEx Cup is off to a great start, and it will be interesting to see how things work out throughout the season.

Tiger Woods only played in one event in January, but he finished at the top of the leaderboard. Woods’ streak of consecutive PGA Tour wins keeps on rolling.
The FedEx Cup is off and running, and it has surprisingly made things more interesting early in the season.
Charles Howell III hasn’t won an event in 2007, but he did have two runner-up finishes in January. Chuckie was at the top of The FedEx Cup standings after the first month.
Vijay Singh started off the season in style with a win at Kapalua. Singh has been at or near the top of The FedEx Cup and money list standings all year.
Paul Goydos outlasted Charles Howell III and Luke Donald en route to winning The Sony Open. The win was Goydos’ first since 1996.
Paul Casey had a great 2006, and he started off the 2007 season on fire as well. Casey picked up a European Tour victory at the Abu Dhabi Golf Championship.
The Golf Channel has been a huge part of the 2007 PGA Tour season so far, and the crew should be proud of themselves. They get a B+ from Mr. Thrash Talk.
Fred Funk started off his Champions Tour season with a bang! Funk won The Turtle Bay Championship by a record-setting margin of 11 strokes.
Jeff Quinney held or shared the lead on Sunday in two consecutive tournaments in January. Quinney finished up the month in the top 10 in The FedEx Cup standings.
Tadd Fujikawa stole the show at The Sony Open on his way to finishing in a tie for 20th. Heading into the final round, the 16-year old Hawaiian was in a tie for eighth!
Retief Goosen hasn’t made his 2007 PGA Tour debut yet, but he did win The Commercialbank Qatar Masters on The European Tour.
Charley Hoffman was the only young gun to actually seal the deal and win a PGA Tour event during the first month of the season. Hoffman’s win at The Hope was the first of his career.
The Win Zone was debuted on The Golf Channel and was pretty much useless in its first test of the season. The thing actually had Charles Howell III finishing in first at one point.

What about John Rollins? I think he is ready to make a big leap forward.
Ah, but the answer to that question is “what did he do in January?” Losing in a playoff, being cut, and finishing T20 and 25th doesn’t rate too highly in my book. The P2, though impressive, is at this point a one-time event (over a reasonable period of time).
Fair point. My reasoning was based on the fact that he has a habit of finishing tournaments very strongly which seems to be a rare trait. I would have him on the list just so I could say later in the year “I told you so back in Feb” 😉
