Big Break II, Episode 6

Big Mike Foster is sent packing after he fails to learn from his mistake the first go-’round.

Big Break Mike EliminatedAfter last week’s incredibly lame “recap” show, The Big Break II resumed this week with six contestants remaining.

The fortunate six were split into two groups of three for a three-hole scramble. The winning team would be exempt, but the twist was that they’d be playing against a third team comprised of Garrett Garland, Randy Block and Jeff Brown from the original Big Break. “We heard some rumors that they were talking some smack about how Big Break 1 guys couldn’t play,” said Block. “It was nice to come back here and defend our honor against the Big Break 2 guys.”

The alumni team forced a playoff on the third hole, then went on to birdie the first playoff hole to send all six contestants to the mulligan and elimination rounds.

The mulligan challenge asked players to hit two 100-yard shots to a green in the darkness – yet another rather simple challenge. Yawwwwwwn. If you’ve got better ideas for a challenge, share them here. When I woke up, I saw that Kip Henley had won with a shot to 4’5″.

The elimination round asked players to play shots from two different trouble spots: from behind a tree and in a waste area over a bunker. Players had to hole out, and the player with the highest total strokes would be sent home. “Two tremendous shots. The one was pretty straightforward, except that you had to choose to either go left or right around the tree. If you play enough golf, you are going to find yourself in that situation,” recalled USAF retiree John Turk.

Big Mike Foster dumped his first shot from the waste area into the bunker and could never recover, succeeding only in tying Kip Henley and forcing a playoff. In the playoff, Foster failed to learn from his mistake the first time around and hit it into the bunker again. He blasted to five feet but, as he’s done three times before, missed the critical putt. He was eliminated.

“What’s more important than anything is to be a good person, and I appreciate everybody having that feeling (about me),” said Foster. “But we all came here to compete and somebody had to lose, and we all knew that. I was just hoping it wouldn’t be me until the very end.”

  1. I was happy to see Donatello lost after his “signed, sealed, delivered” comment.

    Booya!
