Let me start by thanking Brian for filling in last week as I was celebrating my birthday. (Presents are still welcomed, in fact they are encouraged!) Second, I need to preface my next few sentences with the following: I’ve forever hated Colin Montgomerie.
But, was it just me, or did you find yourself not exactly rooting against him this weekend at the Open? I’m not saying I wanted him to win, but I am saying I wasn’t trying to squish his head with my fingers or hope that Tiger would mistakenly hit him with a 2-iron. I’m just saying, it might have been okay to see him do well in his native land. I could tell he desparately wants to win a major.
No? Okay, uh, me either. On to the links.
Hole 1: Famous Caddie and Player Combos
The Rocky Mountain News takes a look at some caddie programs in their state. The best part of the article for me was the famous player/caddie duos. My favorite has to be Lee Trevino and Herman. What’s everyone else’s? [link]
Hole 2: I Golfed in Holland. Isn’t that weird?
I was in Holland earlier this year (in February, so this article couldn’t have helped me then), but I was wondering if there were golf courses there. I was all over the country-side and cities and didn’t see a single course. Luckily, I’m sure I’ll be heading back there, and when I go next, I’ll take some clubs. But for anyone headed there check out this guide. [link]
Hole 3: Kid Tiger
Raf in the forum pointed this out, and now I can’t stop watching it. This is awesome. I’ve always been a Nike whore. Not to mention they were a case study in college for me in my advertising class, so I love these ads. [link]
Hole 4: Golf with and Entourage
I’m not sure I’m a fan of HBO’s Entourage, but I do enjoy the premise. Plus they have a cool game on their website where you can hit golf balls off the roof. I spent last Thursday in the office hitting the house. [link]
Hole 5: Golf Glossary
Most of these are obvious, but I have never ever hear of a goldie bounce. Am I the only one or is this a familiar term? I think I might start a slang dictionary of golf terms. [link]
Hole 6: Golf Styles
For those of you in the Washington DC area, there’s a great (and free) golf resource magazine, Golf Styles. Go sign up for your free subscription. There’s also one for Philadelphia, New Jersey, Boston, Atlanta and Ohio. And yes, I am pimping my girlfriends newspaper company. [link]
Hole 7: New GolfObserver Writer
Let’s play a little Buy or Sell here. I’m selling Jay Flemma’s first piece with Golf Observer. In fact, I read it this morning and had to get a Starbucks in the middle to stay awake. I think GO has added some “press” to his site. Whether bad or good, Jay sure knows how to get some attention his way. By the way, you need to work on the picture Jay. [link]
Hole 8: Using a Caddie
The Reluctant Jam Boy has a great piece on using a caddie. I’ve used a caddie once in my life at the Inverness Club. I was 18 playing with my dad and his buddies. I ended up getting the only girl caddie at the club, and wouldn’t you know, she was hot. Seeing as this was my first time using a caddie I was already nervous, but now that she’s hot, I’m sweating bullets. First tee, I shank one into the trees. Luckily, I snapped out of it and shot a 77, and got her number. How do you like them apples!? Okay, I made up the part about getting her number, but the rest, as they say, is all true. [link]
Hole 9: Golf Tan
The Golfchick has a great post about the dreaded golf tan. When I was a kid and golfing wasn’t exactly the cool thing to do, I remember going to the pool after playing 18 and taking my shirt off to reveal a beautiful whiteness that resembled a white undershirt. The ridicule that followed was never pleasant. Now a days, I just don’t give a rats arse about tan lines, but golfchick, I too have been there and can empathize. [link]
