Volume Four

This week, Hittin’ the Links focuses on the Masters, because, let’s be honest, what other golf coverage is there during the second weekend of April?

Ever since I was a little kid, I’ve dreamt of winning the Masters. I think if you love golf as a child, that’s the tournament you always practice winning. It has so much tradition and recognition. While watching the tournament this weekend, I was reminded of a thought I had when I was a child: isn’t the kelly green jacket a hard color to match your shirt with? Which brings a bigger question: shouldn’t you wear a golf shirt (on Sunday) that would look good with the green jacket so you’ll look good while putting on the coat?

I’ve always thought that and wonder why Tiger chooses red? Maybe he really enjoys Christmas? I don’t know, but it wouldn’t be the color I’d choose. After Volume 4 of Hittin’ the Links, I’ll share what color I would wear.

Headcases
What happened to spiking your 9-iron when you shank in the drink? That’s instant karma. Am I wrong when I say it makes you feel better to kick the golf cart than to take a deep breath and say, “Serenity Now”? These tour players need a “coach” for everything. I don’t understand, but maybe that’s why they’re so much better than me. [link]

Very Superstitious, the Writings on the Wall
PGA Tour players are scared to win a Par 3 tournament. Are you serious? Aren’t their coaches supposed to help them overcome those superstitions? [link]

Mr. Relevant
This was written before Tiger won, but Mr. Van Sickle, he’s completely relevant. Since 2000, Tiger has been motivating players to improve their games. They aren’t competing against the course anymore, they’re trying to beat him. So in that sense, he’s completely relevant. [link]

I love Double-D’s
To all you nay-sayers, just lookout. By 2006, I think Duval will be contending (maybe not winning) again. He was and is too good not to be. [link]

Masters Video
Here’s some great video of the Masters coverage. I have to say that when Tiger was talking about getting a bearhug from his dad, it got pretty dusty in the Big House (my home). As a matter of fact, it’s getting a little dusty just thinking about it. Anyone have a tissue. [link]

Gamesmanship
I love it! Vijay is stirring things up and trying to get any advantage he can. First checking Tiger’s driver, then checking Phil’s shoes. Next, it’s Phil’s bra size. [link]

Random Thought
I can’t find a good picture on the web, but did anyone notice how much Tiger was sweating under his arms. I think that’s a testiment to how hard he was grinding. I kept thinking about that Michael Strahan commercial where he’s playing golf, raises his arms, and the squirrel (or bird, I don’t remember) falls out of the tree. I don’t have a link for this, so if you have one, drop it in the comments.

To wrap up this week’s edition, it’s time I reveal my preference for shirt color. There were only a couple of options. White is probably the front-runner, but for me that’s too boring. So the battle remains between a pale yellow and a light pink. Pink is pretty trendy right now, so when my pictures would be taken, it might date it, just like the butterfly collar. (Can you tell I’ve thought about this a little too much?) With that being said, pale yellow get’s the nod.

What would everyone else pick?
