That’s basically a wrap on professional golf for 2015. The LPGA and European Tours held their championships this weekend and the PGA Tour’s last FedEx Cup points until January were handed out in Georgia. Over the next month, we only have Tiger’s event and a few silly season-type events to get our golf-viewing jones on, until it all starts again in Hawaii.
So enjoy some turkey and the holidays of your choice. Let’s hit the links.
Hole #1: Rory Takes World
Rory McIlroy won the World Tour Championship and the Race to Dubai on Sunday, despite needing an exemption because he didn’t play the requisite number of events due to injury. [Link]
Hole #2: Ko and Kerr Crowned
On the LPGA, Christie Kerr won the battle by taking the CME Group Tour Championship at Tiburon, but Lydia Ko won the war, claiming the season-long points race and the $1 million that goes with it. She also won Rolex Player of the Year. Not a bad Sunday for an 18-year-old. [Link]
Hole #3: U.S. Vice Captains Named
We’re going to need another golf cart. Each Ryder Cup captain will name an additional vice captain to the squad for 2016 for a total of three. This week Captain Davis Love III named Jim Furyk, Steve Stricker, and Tiger Woods for the U.S. Team. Woods said that he hopes to also play his way onto the team and carry off a dual role at Hazeltine. [Link]
Hole #4: No Ryder Cup for Casey
Paul Casey will not rejoin the European Tour in order to make himself eligible for to make the European Team. The current world #24’s decision could be related to his 2010 snub by the team, at least according to Justin Rose. [Link]
Hole #5: Kisner Wins on Sea Island
Kevin Kisner added his name to the list of recent first-time winners on the PGA Tour. In 2015, Kisner lost three times in playoffs and was runner up two weeks ago in Shanghai. This time he didn’t take any chances, cruising to a six-stroke win. [Link]
Hole #6: Ouch!
A spectator at the Australian Masters got a little closer to the action than he was expecting when an errant Steven Bowditch drive caught him square in the nose. [Link]
Hole #7: E.T. Digs Golf
In Weird Golf News this week, a golfer in Tucson snapped a photo of two suspected UFOs over the course. Didn’t anyone tell him he’s supposed to keep his head down when golfing? [Link]
Hole #8: Daily Fantasy a No-No
The PGA Tour has banned players from endorsing or playing daily fantasy sports sites. [Link]
Hole #9: Long Drive(r)
Here’s a guy attempting to break the record for the world’s longest usable golf club. The video is so bad, it’s kind of great. [Link]
