It seemed like it was going to be a fairy tale ending to the regular season for Tiger Woods. In second place after the third round, it just felt like Woods would finally break out of his slump and get his first win since 2013. Instead, a triple-bogey seven on number 11 was a fitting coda to Tiger’s 2015 campaign. But the old Tiger just might maybe be back.
Another old guy, Freddy Couples shot 59… on Wednesday. And yet another won the Wyndham Championship. Let’s hit the links.
Hole #1: Good Company
Bryson DeChambeau, with a 7&6 victory over Derek Bard, joined Jack Nicklaus (1961), Phil Mickelson (1990), Tiger Woods (1996) and Ryan Moore (2004) as the only men to have won the NCAA Individual Championship and the U.S. Amateur in the same year. [Link]
Hole #2: Love Love Love

Hole #3: Par Gets It Done for Ko
Lydia Ko notched her third win of the year at the Canadian Pacific Women’s Open. Stacy Lewis shot 5-under 67 to catch Ko at -12, but lost on the first playoff hole when her 9-foot putt just slipped by the hole. [Link]
Hole #4: Ryan Palmer’s Father Dies in Auto Accident
Butch Palmer (71) was killed in a rollover accident August 18. [Link]
Hole #5: Almost Like Old Times
For three rounds and then some, it looked like the Tiger Woods of old just might be back. Needing a win or solo second in the Wyndham Championship to make the FedEx Cup Playoffs, Woods was doing everything right and was just a shot back after three rounds. But then on Sunday, hole #11 ended Tiger’s season rather abruptly. Still, could his T10 be a harbinger of things to come in 2016? [Link]
Hole #6: Brooke Henderson Gets LPGA Card
Days after her win at Portland, 17-year-old Brooke Henderson was granted early membership on the LPGA. [Link]
Hole #7: Smooth
Jordan Spieth gets an on camera offer from Miss Texas. [Link]
Hole #8: Zach Johnson and Jordan Spieth Pitch Off
No wedges were involved in this head-to-head matchup. But guess who throws lefty and won… [Link]
Hole #9: Presidents Cup Point Mistake
While it doesn’t seem to involve any hanging chads, a recount seems in order. [Link]
Is it “…the old Tiger might be back…” when he’s playing on a dog track with one of the weakest fields of the year? I’m sure Tiger could win my club championship, but that’s not really the measuring stick. Or the point.
