I think there’s a new word in the golf jargon dictionary. Tiger’s been using it, and I found myself saying all round yesterday. That word? “Mo.” As in momentum.
Tiger was saying it as a good thing, “Those two birdies really gave me some mo.” I was saying it like, “Crap, those two doubles are going to make it tough to recover.” Regardless of the type of mo you’re referring to, I really like it.
Here are this week’s links. If you’ve got some other good jargon to share, drop it in the comments.
Hole 1: Pretty in Pink
Dear Paula, I think you’re splendid. I found this fansite of yours as I was frantically googling your name yesterday after you won. I can’t believe you’re only 18. You’re the best. Yours, Josh [link]
Hole 2: Crazy Dude
This might be NSFW. I can’t bring it up on my browser in the office. But check it out when you get a home. [link]
Hole 3: Cigar of Choice
What cigar does everyone prefer to smoke while playing? Me, I choose the Oliva “O” Classic Ole. [link]
Hole 4: Battle of the Bridges
Tune in tonight. I love these things! I’ll be watching with popcorn, beer, and pizza. I’m putting my money on Tiger and Daly. [link]
Hole 5: GolfPunk Blog
The blokes in the UK who bring us GolfPunk Mag have started a blog as well. Thanks for putting The Sand Trap on your blogroll. I’ll be looking forward to the content you’ll be spitting. [link]
Hole 6: Deaf Golfer
I’ve read a lot about Kevin Hall. His story is great. The first deaf golfer to play on the PGA Tour. I’m expecting big things from the 2004 Big Ten Champion. Even if he did go to Ohio State. Go Blue!!! [link]
Hole 7: Good Genes
First, Arnie’s grandson takes medalist honors, then Bob Tway’s son wins the U.S. Junior Am. It’s too bad my dad is a CPA and not a professional golfer. That might explain why I can balance a checkbook but can’t hit a high draw. [link]
Hole 8: Suing over a Slice
I always thought that if you lived on a golf course you couldn’t hold a golfer or the course liable for any damage to your property. I guess not. Does anyone have a picture of the “aim left” sign? That’s great! [link]
Hole 9: Slow Play
Ben Crane is super slow. It’s totally distracting and annoying to watch on TV. I still think that as a playing partner you have to be mentally strong enough to not get rattled, but it is distracting. Scott Verplank summed up my thoughts, “He’s just very fidgety. He stands over the ball and bobs and weaves and swivels around a lot, you know?” Verplank said. “I think I’d probably pass out.” [link]
