Let’s be honest, you don’t want an introduction into Hittin’ the Links. You want your links, hard and fast. Well too bad, you’re getting an introduction. From ridiculous golf stunts, to kid Tiger, Tadd Fujikawa, and Jim Furyk’s shirts are just some of the links you’ll be hittin’ this week.
Enjoy!
Hole 1: Ridiculous Golf Stunt
Caution: the page this link links to may not be work safe because of a few ads present on it. Basically, A guy stands four feet away from a fully-swung drive. The resulting welt is very impressive. [Link]
Hole 2: Kid Tiger
This ad campaign is almost a year old by now, however I’ve just rediscovered it and, hell, I think it’s worth another look. The editing is amazing on these commercials, how they got it to look like kid Tiger was actually playing The Open, I’ll never know. [Link]
Hole 3: Tadd-Pole
Little Tadd Fujikawa was definitely one of the notable stories of the week during this year’s U.S. Open. The tiny 15 year old had the thrill of his life playing the Open and he sure has led an interesting life: read up. [Link]
Hole 4: Oh Jimbo!
Yesterday, Jim Furyk came very close to winning another U.S. Open, however a three-jack and a bogey on the 72nd left him high and dry. Speaking of dry, his new button-down shirts have him feeling a little more light and breezy. [Link]
Hole 5: Stop Licking Your Balls!
A couple of my regular playing partners, who are also caddies, were telling me this hilarious story about one of their loops the other day. The story goes like this: there’s this six handicap at their course who stuffs his ball into his mouth on every green and gobbles the little pellet until it’s clean. Well, I suppose you had to be there, but at the time this story had me rolling in the fairway. Here’s a little tidbit about licking your balls. [Link]
Hole 6: David Duval
How about Duval this week?! His performance was certainly above his average of the last few years. And what about his putting?! Eleven one-putts in one day?! ridiculous! I was really pulling for him to do some good on Sunday, but even with his poor round, the spark is back in him. [Link]
Hole 7: Winged Foot Home of the Mulligan
Damn you, Winged Foot. Not only did you have the pros moaning and groaning this weekend, you’re responsible for groans from me on a regular basis. Every time one of my playing partners demands a mulligan I have you and your early membership to blame. All joking aside, this is a very interesting read. [Link]
Hole 8: Hopeful Professional
I’m not gonna lie, in the back of my head I still want very much to be a professional golfer. Sure, I’ve got to figure out a lot of stuff still, like how to break 78, but those are just details. Wounded Duck has my back and says, “go for it.” Thanks Wounded Duck. [Link]
Hole 9: Clutch
If you watched the 72nd hole of the U.S. Open, no description is necessary. [Link]
