Originally postponed at 10:37am and officially cancelled at noon, the second round of the Michelob Ultra Open at Kingsmill will start over on Saturday morning. “The golf course is just not playable,” LPGA Rules Official, Jim Haley said. “We felt like, to be fair to everyone, we would scratch the round and start over.”
Although the newly renovated River Course greens were in good shape this morning as the first golfers took the field, the fairways and tee boxes quickly filled with water, which delivered over a half-inch of rain.
Sorenstam did not yet begin her second round, but is better off starting in the nice weather expected for the weekend.
Danielle Amiee also gets a fresh start in the morning. She began on the back and started +4 with a 39 on the par-71 River Course. With bogeys on the next two holes, Danielle was +6 after 11 and well on her way towards failing to break 80.
Calendar girl Natalie Gulbis was a little thrown by the turn of events, partly because she was one of only a few players to be under par for the day. “It’s just frustrating, but what can you do? I’m still in a good spot. Take the day off and start over tomorrow.” Or maybe, “…find Cristie Kerr and see if she wants to go shopping. We spend a lot of weather delays together.”
The regular cut line of 70 golfers and ties will be made at the end of the second round. The final 36 holes are scheduled to be played on Sunday, weather permitting.
Check your local ESPN 2 television listings as Saturday’s rounds begin at 7:15AM. So far, coverage is still scheduled for May 07, 2:00-4:00 pm with the final round being played on Mother’s Day, May 08, 5:00-7:00PM (all times ET).
