Bunker’s Dozen: February 2007

This month’s list features a new number one, a rehashed reality show, and a Pink Panther.

Thrash TalkThe month of February has come and gone, and it’s hard to believe it’s almost time for The Masters. This time next month, the PGA Tour’s first major championship will be in full swing, and the LPGA Tour’s first major championship will be in the books. The Super Bowl may be big for most people, but there is nothing bigger to me than PGA Tour majors.

As far as last month’s golf is concerned, there were some interesting occurrences. Henrik Stenson outlasted Tiger and Ernie overseas and followed that up by winning the first World Golf Championship event of the season. Charles Howell III picked up his first win in over four years, and Paula Creamer returned to the winner’s circle. Tiger’s PGA Tour win streak ended, and an old reality show debuted a new season.

All these things and more had a profound impact on this month’s Bunker’s Dozen. Without further ado, here is this month’s list. And if you have anything to add, please comment below or discuss it in the forum.

1
Henrik Stenson

Henrik Stenson won The Dubai Desert Classic and WGC Accenture Match Play Championship last month. The Swede is playing better than anyone in golf right now.

2
Charles Howell III

Charles Howell III finally picked up his second-career PGA Tour win, and he is also atop The FedEx Cup standings and money list.

3
Phil Mickelson

Phil Mickelson blew the field away at Pebble Beach and followed that up with a second-place finish at Riviera. Lefty is definitely back in the hunt.

4
Paula Creamer

Paula Creamer started off the LPGA season by winning the first event. It’s going to be a huge year for the Pink Panther!

5
Fred Funk

Fred Funk won a Champions Tour event in January and picked up a PGA Tour victory last month. The Funk can still play with the big boys.

6
Ernie Els

Ernie Els finished in second at The Dubai Desert Classic, lost in the first round at the Accenture Match Play Championship, and droppped his old contract to switch to Callaway. Wow, that’s a wacky month.

7
Aaron Baddeley

Aaron Baddeley outlasted Jeff Quinney to win The FBR Open, Baddeley’s second PGA Tour victory in less than a year. It’s about time he lives up to that potential.

8
Stacy Prammanasudh

Stacy Prammanasudh won the second LPGA Tour event of the season and now finds herself atop the money list.

9
Geoff Ogilvy

Geoff Ogilvy nearly repeated at the WGC Accenture Match Play Championship but settled for a runner-up finish to Henrik Stenson.

10
Tiger Woods

Tiger Woods and his winning streak can officially rest in peace. Eldrick still managed to finish third at The Dubai Desert Classic.

11
The USGA

The USGA announced it is proposing two new rules changes; one deals with square grooves, and one deals with club adjustability.

12
The FedEx Cup

The FedEx Cup talk has dwindled a bit as the season has progressed, but it’s still deserving of the Bunker’s Dozen.

13
The Big Break VII

The Big Break VII started, but it’s a reunion season. I watched the first episode, but I prefer to see new golfers chasing their dreams than old drama warmed over.

Dropped Out: Vijay Singh, Paul Goydos, Paul Casey, The Golf Channel, Jeff Quinney, Tadd Fujikawa, Retief Goosen, Charley Hoffman, and The Win Zone.
