Hi Ed,
There are many golf sim options on the market and they are not all created equally. I would strongly recommend that you and your friend thoroughly test any simulator before you buy. After all you wouldnt buy a car without a test drive. The key issue for most people is the accuracy of the shot data. Full Swing uses 20 year old photo diode arrays that capture a single data point for every array - in short, from 2 data points and an estimated starting position they calculate the rest. About Golf recently upgraded their radar based systems to camera based one that is based on the High Definition Golf technology. Their problem is they can't capture spin without their specially marked balls, so you must buy their golf balls. As well, AG's cameras are all behind the golfer which means they can't see clubface angle at impact (yet they still display a clubface angle number!)
High Definition Golf uses 4 high speed smart camera's that measure (not calculate) all critical shot data and displays in real time in true HD. We're also the only simulator that uses high resolution digital images combined with satellitte and geophysical data to produce golf courses that not only look real but play exactly like the real thing. Full Swing and AboutGolf use conventional video game graphics that look and play like, well, a video game.
But you dont have to take my word for it - I encourage to see for yourself. Send me an email or call me with your location and I'll find a demo facility near you where you can test us live.
