So as it turns out I went to dicks today to do some hitting and check out some clubs. Probably topping the list going I were jpx 800s, g15/20s, rbz and a couple of others I planned to hit or look at. Turns out when I get there I find out they have put a decent number of older models on clearance including the jpx 800 and 800 pros, r7s, tayormade tour pros, and a couple of others. Took my old DCI 981 7i with me and hit it into the monitor pretty consistently (made more so than most of the others) however i hit it approx 160-165 pretty regularly. Tried out several clubs hit quite a few well, amazing was averaging close to 185-190 with most of the irons I tried and hit it 160-165 on big nasty mishits. Ended up coming down to the 800s vs the 800 pros. Having played the 981s I feel like the look is much similar to the pros and the distance control while a little shorter was definitely more consistent. I ranged from 175-195 even with the 800s and was much more dialed in around 180-185 with the pros. So I went with the pros 4-gw for 550 with tax and everything (25% off clearance price). Pretty excited hopefully not too crazy going with the pros, definitely a little less forgiving but still feels pretty awesome

Any recommendations on where to go for club fitting? Local pro shops? I live in Augusta, and while we might host the golf mecca of the world we don't exactly have lots of big nice retail shops to choose from. Edwin Watts is an option I suppose and can you get competitive pricing at a local pro shop?

First of all I'd like to readily admit there are several posts I have read through the search function but would like some specific advice and thoughts. In short as part of my Christmas present I am getting a new set of irons which is obviously quite exciting. However I feel as though I need a lot of advice on where to go in my search. Basic details of me and my golf game. I'm a mediocre amateur who plays 20-30 rounds a year with a handicap/average scores 85/95. Iron play is generally ok nothing super remarkable. I play with Titlelist 981 DCI irons with steel shafts, couple of reasonable distances iron wise of it has any bearing 8i ~ 150yrds 5i ~175yrds. Curious question where would the 981s fall under the spectrum of GI vs PI vs Blades (obviously not blades but curious what I am looking to compare to) Budget 400-700$ (willing to hear opinions higher lower etc) Questions I have.... Custom Fit clubs seems to the way to go per recommendations here (Im 5'7" fwiw). What if any details do I need going into a retail shop to get fitted. Also say dicks sporting goods approximately what price am I looking at for this process? Can I get "fitted" then order online cheaper? General equipment recommendations? Stay awake from XXXXX brands or XXXXX has Hugh quality stuff. Should I be looking to get steel vs graphite? Any thoughts on 4-pw vs 3-pw etc? I've always played with a 3i is it common to not have one in the bag these days? Obviously I don't want blades but I don't exactly want to jump to the other end of the spectrum right? All thoughts and opinions are greatly appreciated And ill answer and additional questions you have. I find it interesting the lack of 3i in sets now but I guess it makes sense; I honestly hit my long irons pretty well which is kind of disappointing to see them be more rare now. I have a much bigger issue with pushing irons, with a slice occasionally with longer irons. Anyways, in some brief research, mizuno JPX 800s, Ping G15/G20 having come up a decent bit. Any thoughts on those or what about rocketballz etc?
