  1. What is everyone's thought on keeping the rear arm (right arm for right handed players) passive in the backswing and downswing to help prevent pushing with the rear arm? Almost like your whole swing is done with the front arm so you don't push with the rear and throw off your timing. Hope that wasn't confusing. Thanks!
  2. Hey everyone, figured I'd chime in on the results of the Callaway FT-IZ driver I purchased. Specs: Callaway FT-IZ, Stiff Flex, Aldila Voodoo, 10 degree driver. I only have positive things to say about this driver. I for some awkward reason usually strike my irons well as as well as my woods, but not my driver. So I gave up on the driver and usually drove with my 13degree wood. I then tried out the FT-IZ locally and it's the only driver that felt good to me at address. I went on a hunch and shelled out the bills for it. From a visual standpoint, the driver is nice to look at. The driver has a more narrow face vertically compared to others, such as Taylormade, which is better for me since I don't like blockly looking drivers heads. The head has a triangular shape and it looks like it goes from big to small when looking at it from the front to back. The driver appears to have a slightly closed face at address. From a performance standpoint, the driver is smooth and every shot for the most part feels like it's hit in the sweet spot. When you do miss the sweet spot, shots still travel a pretty good distance. A majority of the shots have the same trajectory as stated by Callaway, so where ever you aim, the ball will most likely end up in that spot. If you have an issue with slices or too strong of fades, don't worry, mishits have good distance and don't leave the course like I'm sure some of you experience. I did notice that it is a little hard to hit a draw with this club. It appears to hit more straighter shots or weak fades....some what of an anti-slice aspect. You do not have to muscle this club, just a nice slow smooth swing will do the job. Last to add, the driver has a distinct sounds when struck. Not annoying or too loud, but, people will know you got the driver out. That's about it, me personally I rate this a 10/10. Now that is from my standpoint of what I have tried in the past. This club is definitely a must for those of you who are not the best with the driver or for those who don't push to draw/fade the ball and just want a straight shot. Feel free to add any input or ask any questions. Take care! Bobby
  3. Ok, here's the deal, I've only been playing for approximately 7 months, have scored in the low 90's a few times and appear to idle around there. Now, I actually picked up the game, learning to strike my irons pretty good and fairly consistent, while I was horrible with a driver. So, I get rid of the driver and use a 13degree FW for a while. I just purchased a new driver (Callaway FT-IZ) and the past few rounds, I have been very consistent and long with my driver but my irons went to shit!!! I'm trying to figure out what I'm doing wrong, but am having some trouble. I wonder since I hit on the upswing with the driver and downswing with the irons, if it's messing me up mentally? I do a nice steady paced swing with my driver and it launches far (250-270). I go to my irons and I don't know if I'm changing my swing and it's screwing me up or what. Should I have the same steady swing with my driver and irons, but obviously strike down on the irons? To sum it up, should my swing be the same for all clubs, as in tempo, takeaway, backswing, downswing and follow through? Thanks and sorry if it's long and some what confusing, it's just very frustrating!
  4. Just got back from the range and I did a majority of my swinging with my feet closer together, not TOGETHER but about a foot apart at the most and it made most my striking fairly consistent. From 60 degree - 4 iron. Obviously with 60 degree my feet being very close compared to my 4 iron, but it does work. Also, full swings.
  5. A lot of you have heard and know of the "feet together drill", which is a great drill to warm up with and you hit the ball fairly close to your normal swing length when doing it. Does anyone here play with their feet fairly close together when it comes to their irons? I believe Sergio plays with his feet closer than average. Does anyone here do that on a consistent basis with good results when playing? Thanks
  6. So, I was watching "Playing Lessons" with John Daly and he was talking about a drill he does where he swings one handed (left hand for right handed player). It teaches you to bring the club back properly so you do an inside to outside swing. Has anyone ever tried starting their backswing with a slight push of the left arm to throw the arms back on plane then rotate the hips and then just go tension free as best as you can on the downswing so you hit flush? Hopefully that makes sense.
  7. In order for me to make a good swing, I start my backswing with my hips and it launches my arms back without tension, then on the downswing I start with my hips and it whips my arms through the zone tension free for solid contact. Anyone else do the same? Just wondering if it's strange with that order or just another normal method that works overall.

    Honda Classic

Fun tournament to watch. I live in Palm Beach County and went to watch the finals today. 1st time going to a PGA tournament. I was hoping for AK to pull through but oh well, Camilo deserves it. Some impressive shots out there. Look forward to visiting more.
  9. Thanks for the help guys. I picked the book up 2 weeks ago..good read, just have to keep the fundamentals in mind until it's second nature.
  10. Anyone here who is consistent at ball striking, in your backswing, does it feel like your left arm swings back to your right shoulder, or does it feel like you are taking your left arm and trying to push it through your right shoulder? I hope that wasn't too confusing, I'm sure some know what I'm talking about - this question was intended for right handed players and vice versa for left handed. Thanks
  11. Yea I've read that and have tried it before. What do you think about those straps that go around both arms to help keep you connected throughout the whole swing?
  12. I took my 1st lesson about a month ago. The pro had me tee up the ball and strike it with a 7i and 5i. He would have put my right hand on the grip portion where it meets the visible shaft and my left hand would be on the grip end in the normal position. With my hands like this it would have an approximate gap of 6-7" within. He then would have me bring the club back while keeping my right arm tucked in near my body and then swing down normally and it would hit a gorgeous draw every time. Now my backswing doesn't FEEL like it goes back far but it struck the ball nicely when I finished with the follow through of not allowing my left arm to chicken wing. After a few swings like this on the carpet, I try to put my hands back in a normal position and swing again with the same feeling. I haven't gotten a chance yet to bring it to the range or course, but do you think this same method would work effectively when out on the course/range? (same method as in the short "appearing" swing but with hands in normal grip position. Hope that wasn't confusing! Thanks guys
  13. Almost like the feeling that you're pulling and pointing your shoulder in a downward angle behind the ball in the backswing and then turning the hips and make it feel as you're swinging your shoulder through the zone on the the same plane in the downswing?
  14. Let me ask this, what's everyone opinion on trying to force the right elbow (right handed golfer) to stay close to the right hip on the downswing near impact?
  15. Hey everyone, just finished reading Hogans book and am very excited to give the fundamentals a try. One question though, which I probably know the answer to, but I figured I'd ask those who would know better. On the downswing, do you try to really whip your body/arms through the zone and into impact or do you come down with a nice smooth steady/unrushed feeling downswing? I hope that is clearly understood and I'm not confusing anyone. Just trying to figure out some tips to stay consistent so I don't hit fat, slice or hook to dramatically. Thanks everyone! Bobby
