  1. I currently play with 10 yr old Mizuno T-zoid graphite regular, however currently trialling a number of clubs as follows: Callaway X-20, X-20 Tour & Fusion TaylorMade r7 I did a 6-iron demo test on all 4 today - the results: X-20 is a solid club, works pretty well and is reasonably long X-20 Tour again solid, long, less forgiving (it is a tour club after all) Fusion was a good, easy to hit club, bit tended to go a bit high for me (lost distance on ocassion) r7 was the stand out for me. It was very solid, longer than the rest due to the slightly stronger lofts, but held its line well. It seems to me to be between a game-improvement and a tour iron, compared to x-20 & Fusion. This appeals to me, as I do not yet feel ready for a tour iron, yet feel that a game improvement iron won't force to me to work more on my fundamentals (ie. it hides the flaws). Also, on a value for money basis, there is no contest - r7 wins that race. Interested to hear any other r7 feedback as up to now I was going to get X-20, but am now swinging into the r7 camp in a big way.
  2. G'day everyone, thought I better introduce myself. I am a 38 yr old kiwi golf nut, been playing now for 8 years. I play off a 15 at the Manukau Golf Club here in Auckland NZ - if you are ever down under, feel free to let me know & I am sure that I can arrange a round or two! We can play all year round down here - temperatures range from up to 30 celsius (summer) down to 10 celsius (winter) - (that's 86 farenh to 50 farenh for the Northern Hemisphere folk). I am a very keen traveller also and often take the clubs away with me. I will be in the Palm Springs/Palm Desert Cal. area in early June this year for a week, so will be playing a few courses, as well as updating my set (cannot wait!) - any suggestions regarding best courses to play there, when to play & how to get a game there will be appreciated. Really enjoy the forum, lots of great tips, ideas and lots of interesting characters here! Currently playing: Driver - Adams Redline 10.5 deg 3 wood - Wilson Killer Whale 15 deg Hybrid - Cleveland Halo 3i Irons - Mizuno T-Zoid 3-sw graphite shaft Putter - Ping blade Assessing new sets at present - like look of Callaway x-20 (reg & tour), Cobra fp, Taylormade r-7 (reg & tour). Considering switch to steel shaft. Definitely getting FT-5 driver (it is wow!) Cheers - Stevo
  3. Cheers BigBoom, will give the X a try this weekend.
  4. Excellent post this - I am learning heaps about this subject here! I am looking into totally upgrading my set soon, including wedges, so this is very timely. I live in northern NZ down here in the little ole South Pacific, where its usually pretty firm and warm year round. Very keen on Cleveland CG10 - looks like a couple of wedges, say 54 & 60 deg, are the way to go with standard and low bounce options respectively. Will be trying these out at the course this weekend. Top stuff!
  5. Currently I use a Cleveland Halo 3i (21 deg), which I actually used to replace a 5-wood because I found the hybrid more accurate (however I do realise that hybrids are meant to be iron replacements). Marvellous club - accurate & long, but not great into the wind as it can climb some. Currently looking at getting another hybrid, to replace 4-iron (will also drop 3-iron out & get another wedge). Considering another Halo, or may switch to both Hi-Bore or both Callaway X or Fusion. Would be keen on some recommendations regarding Halo vs Hi-Bore vs Callaway X or Fusion.
  6. I just tried a Callaway FT-5 at the weekend. Truly amazing driver - straight and long. I never been so confident with driver in hand as I was with the demo that I tried (10 deg, draw bias). I am definitely buying one of these - and soon. Club pro advised that it is important to ensure that you are fit for this as there are several options available.
