  1. I live in NJ where everything is overpriced. My brother joined a country club recently and I can play there as his guest, but I can't afford to join on my own. The public courses are overcrowded and since I'm a beginner, I'd rather not play where I'm going to feel rushed. I think Rafcin's idea about driving out to Sparta might be my only hope. I used to actually live near Sparta, but that was before I started playing golf. There's a semi-private club near me (9 holes) so I might look into that next year. The price is reasonable.
  2. I know what you mean. I'm tired of hearing about or reading subtle comments that female athletes must all be lesbians. You'd think in the 21st century, we'd be past that. Are some female athletes lesbians? Sure, but I've played sports my entire life and have come across relatively few. But it's the same as if you meet a man who tells you he's a nurse or a hairdresser...what's the first thing you think? It's unfortunate we still have these views though.
  3. OK, this might be a silly question, but since the weather here in the northeast US has suddenly turned hot and humid, I was wondering if it's OK to leave my clubs in the trunk of my car. Will the heat warp them or do any sort of damage?
  4. Thanks I read the thread. Looks like you really enjoyed your volunteer experiences. I signed up to volunteer at one coming up this weekend, but I haven't heard anything from them yet. Seems like they'd better hurry up. I paid $45. If I don't hear anything by Wednesday, I think I'll have to e-mail the guy in charge and see what's up. I was supposed to receive the shirt and hat by now. I also was going to sign up for another one happening in July, but it's $75 and there was no guarantee I'd be chosen since I can only do it on weekends, so I'm probably not going to do that one.
  5. I'm thinking about volunteering for an LPGA event that's coming to my area soon. Just wondering if any of you have ever volunteered for a PGA or LPGA event and what you thought of the experience. Thanks!
  6. Hey, that's great. I never would have thought of going to K-Mart. Thanks for the tip.
  7. I've been playing a grand total of 3 weeks (just lessons--haven't been on an actual course yet) and I want to buy some clubs. My instructor says I should buy Light and Easy by Square Two (I am female, by the way) but they cost somewhere around $400. Since I'm new to golf, I'm thinking maybe I should just buy whatever I can find at the local sports store for less than $200 and then upgrade if I find I'm good at golf and am playing regularly. A few friends told me my instructor is just trying to sell me what's in his pro shop because he gets a kickback and beginners shouldn't spend a lot on clubs. What do you all think?
  8. It certainly is a challenge, but that's what I like about it. Every time I make a little progress, it encourages me to keep at it. It's a lot of fun and I wish I'd taken it up when I was younger, but that's OK. Golf is one of the few sports we can play as we get older so maybe it doesn't matter how old we are when we start.
  9. Hi, I just started learning to golf at the ripe old age of 38 and I'm totally addicted. I've only had 3 lessons and can't wait to get out on the course. I love this site!
