  3. One of my favorite all time golf books is The Elements of Scoring by Raymond Floyd . He goes into deep detail about the pre-swing ritual. It definitely needs to be the same every time, but he cautions against any swing thoughts at all! He just wants you to focus on the target. Think about the most minute detail of that target possible (I.e., don't focus on a tree, focus on a specific leaf of a specific branch of that tree) and just swing the club! I love it, because it not only seems to make me more accurate, but also enjoy my time on the course more. He also goes through things like having a great song stuck in your head... definitely worth the read if you're into the game that surrounds the game.
  4. Alright! Considering where you started... I'll take that as a damn good review! Thanks moparman. Now for the bad news... you can't track handicap, even in the Looper version - yet. We have some stuff in the works to address this deficiency. Hopefully in the next month or two we'll have something in place. Lots of other good stuff in the works as well. Anyway - thanks again for giving us a shot, and I'm happy to hear you've had a good experience. If you upgrade to Looper, I'm sure you'll have an even better experience. Travis
  5. Anything you purchased back in the day will automatically port over to this new version/platform. We store the information with your account credentials, and not on the phone, so it will all transfer like magic. Be sure to lock your phone after each reading. The part of our app that takes the most battery is just the display. When you lock the app between readings, you save a TON of battery. If you have a newer phone, it will be enough to get you through the round easily. (Most people with newer phones will use about 50% of battery life over 18 holes when following this best practice)

  8. Hey guys, Sorry for the late response... my update notification must not be working. First, re the emails: We really try to send only entertaining and interesting stuff via email. Occasionally we have a sale or upgrade update, so that will sneak in. This week we sent out our annual survey. Otherwise, the emails are intended to be fun and entertaining. (And, there is not just one, but two unsubscribe links at the bottom of every email) Second, re the app: Thanks to all those who are giving props. Love you guys! Moparman, if you send an email to support@swingbyswing.com with the name of the course you mapped and the one that's showing up, or submit a request at our support site, OR post the info here, we'll jump right on it. I have never heard of that issue before, and would be interested to see how it could be possible. Turtleback, I'll cruise over to the other forum and chime in with my thoughts about the new rules. Thanks to all who give Swing by Swing a try! We're working hard to bring you the best product, and have a lot more in store. We always listen to our users (hence the annual survey) and try hard to provide more value and usability than anybody else. For example, in a couple of weeks, all ad networks will be removed from the app. No more banners. No more full page ads. We might build some more relevant ads back into the app in the future, but for now, there will be no ads - just a big beautiful satellite photo of the hole you're playing.   10. On behalf of Swing by Swing - Thanks Chipless! Love your handle name... We actually used to have a bug in our scorecard module (fixed now) which prevented people from recording zero putts. So, as long you're "Chipless" and not "Puttless", you'll do just fine on our software. Travis
  11. Hi turtleback, Great idea. I'll have a chat with my team to see what we can do here! I don't see why we can't - but here's the bad news: probably won't be able to happen until next Spring at least. Our development timeframe is pretty large these days. (It is incredible the complexity involved with a simple module or re-design for mobile apps). Plus, one of the big problems we're facing these days is the "clutter" factor. It's hard to keep the app simple and usable but still add all the technology. Adding stuff like a one-off shot distance tracker is a fantastic idea - but we also need to keep the interface from looking like the cockpit of a 747. Anyway, I think it's perfectly reasonable to have a one-off shot distance tracker. It is not advanced technology like Club Tracker, but still makes general users happy. As far the Looper refund goes, I fully understand. It's not for everybody, and that's why we have the unconditional money-back guarantee. I'm just happy you gave it a shot. Travis
  12. Hey guys, I'm the founder of Swing by Swing Golf. I know the title of this thread is "unbiased gps reviews", so I apologize in advance if I'm overstepping my boundary. I am obviously biased... but I'll try to keep this reply to the facts. I just wanted to comment on a couple of the things I read about SbS in this thread: The basic free GPS range finder does calculate: * Distance to pin (when you're on the course you see the distance in the top right corner of the app, and when you rotate the phone it appears in really large numbers), * Front/back distances (When you click on the green pin or on the "Green" button at bottom, we zoom in on the green and show semi-circles with varying distances), * Intermediate distances (by clicking anywhere on the satellite photo you see distance from where you are to that point, and distance from that point to the center of green) Also, * The scorecard module is $11.99 one time. It is not a yearly fee. * The Looper membership includes a Club Tracker module to track the distance of every club in your bag and show a 3D flyover of your round afterward. And this IS a yearly membership fee. * You can map your own course if it's not in the system. It takes about 10-15 minutes if you know the course layout. Or, you can pay us $7.99 to do it for you. We have 27,000 live courses in the system... still growing by a couple hundred per day. If you've tried SbS and like it, I sure appreciate all the props you're giving. Thanks!   13. Thanks for the thread update aschroeger. I tried to reply to your PM, but the forum is telling me I already exceeded my daily limit... Joel - unfortunately, no. There will not be a Windows Phone 7 version of SbS in the near future. We have some devs on staff who _really_ want to jump into Windows Phone 7 coding, so... who knows? Maybe early next year.
