  1. The mystery is solved and it had absolutely nothing to do with my new Taylor Made R 11 irons. The problem was that I was attempting to play solo and too eager to see my ball flight. I was simply striking the ball poorly to say the least. My beautiful bride went along for the cart ride today and it made a world of difference. My shots were awesome. My new Leupold GX-4i range finder made a tremendous difference as well. One of the better rounds that I have played recently. Thank God for the seasoned golfers who offer a lending hand or great advice. Thanks Bobby K.
  2. Yes, I am making contact with the ground first. I have tried gripping down and that puts me back in the same situation I was with my old clubs. I was fitted trying in an attempt to get some back relief. The longer clubs allow me to stand a little straighter. The floor to wrist measurement was done statically, however, I was also tested dymanically to determine my lie angle with carbon tape on the base of the club. About starting the new thread; I didn't realize it presented a problem and didn't really give it allot of thought. If it's a problem for you I will try to refrain.
  3. To answer your question it was one of those "wild hairs" impulse purchases. Little bit too much money in my pocket. I went to the pro shop with the idea of having my Ping G 10 irons customized. I needed a little more length to give my back some relief as I addressed the ball. My professional club fitter began allowing me to hit several new irons and I fell in love with the R 11's. They just felt very good in the fitting room. I probably hit around 175-200 balls divided between several clubs and brands and I categorized them based on feel and performance. I would have more invested in the Pings than I would ever be able to re-coupe. By going longer I needed stiff shafts based on my swing speed. The end result is that I have some awesome clubs that I need to figure out how to strike the ball more precisely and consistently. Constructive criticism accepted.
  4. Recently sold my Ping G 10's and was custom fitted with a new set of R 11 irons 4-AW. These new irons are 1/2" longer, standard lie. My Pings were standard length and standard lie and were purchased second hand from a fellow golfer. My set-up with the R 11's is nearly the same with the exception of not having to lean as much due to the difference in shaft length. I'm making a consistently deep divot and unable to figure out why. This affects my ball flight and distance. I did not have the problem with the Pings and was much more consistent on ball striking. I've been to the range and made strides with my 7 iron, however, never determined definitively what was causing my contact with the ground. I tried multiple irons while being fitted and the R 11's seemed to be the better fit for me. I'm definitely not bias towards a specific brand and remained objective through out the fitting process. Need some constructive advice.
  5. Took the opportunity to hit some balls on the range yesterday and I determined exactly what you predicted. It was all in my poor posture. After about 10 shots with my 8 iron I began to develop the correct posture for the longer clubs and the accuracy began to reappear. After about forty more balls I was consistent with distance and direction. I very much appreciate your input as well as all the other contributors in the Sand Trap.
  6. Fellow golfers; I was recently professionally fitted with a new set of irons. I choose the Taylor Made R 11's simply because they felt the best of all the irons I tried. I tested several different clubs to include Ping, Callaway, Mizuno, Taylor Made RBZ's and the R 11's, Titleist API 2. My previous clubs were Ping G 10's and I was pretty successful with them. I liked the lighter feel of the R 11 and I felt I was more consistent. My fitter determined that I needed 1/2" over length and standard lie. The problem thus far is that I seem to be getting thick on my divoits to the point that it's affecting my ball flight. My previous clubs were standard lie and length. Any thoughts of suggestions?
  7. I'm looking to purchase a range aid device, however, I can't decide whether to purchase a laser ranger finder or one of the mapping devices such as sky caddie. Any suggestions or comments?
  8. I have an appointment scheduled for tomorrow for a custom fitting at my local pro shop for a new set of irons. I tend to be bias toward Ping simply because my first irons were G 10' s and I've enjoyed great success with them. I'm considering the I 20's as a replacement. I'm a mid to average handicapper and ready to move up to a club that offers a little more control. Any suggestions for other clubs to consider?
  9. I've not actually played them yet, however, just swinging them for practice I don't notice much difference in the weighting from the Ping standard grips that I had repalced.
  10. Just had my Ping stock grips replaced with the Win Dry Tac midsize. They have a awesome feel and tackiness. Hope to shave some strokes on my next round.
  11. Recently purchased a used set of Ping G 10 irons that are in excellent condition. Grips look great, however, I realize that these clubs could be as early as '07 models. Should I consider re-gripping?
