  2. Received the 59 & 65 degree wedges this week. I play off a 15 handicap but have always struggled with bunker shots and short chips (eg over a bunker). First practice was in a bunker (65 degree) with a face about waist high (I'm 5'11") and about 15 feet to the back of the green. Previously If I hit 12 shots I'd get about 7 or 8 out and half of those would be over the green. I got 11 out of 12 out and only one of those rolled through (usually I hit them right over without touching the green). They came out higher and softer than when I use either my sand wedge or 60 degree wedge - the shots just looked and felt right. I played a round afterwards and only had one bunker shot, which I only just popped out onto the green - I think I will have to get used to being able to commit to the shot. I understand it may not be everyone's cup of tea but then neither was the long handled putter. After just a short bit of practise and one round I think it definitely prevents the chance of the club digging into the ground (which I do every now and then) and just gives me more confidence in the shot. They say it will take a shot per hole off your game which is a ridiculous statement to make (especially since you won't even need the club on every hole) ...... however I think it might save me an average of 2 shots per round and if that means I can lower my handicap by about 2 shots then I think it was a decent investment. Hey I'm not turning pro anytime ever, so if this helps me to enjoy the game then that's all that matters to me. Purists can go and play a round with their hickory sticks and feather balls and be happy with that too.
  3. Thanks Sabram, are the courses in better condition in any particular months ?
  4. Thanks Harmonious, you guys are fortunate to be so spoilt for choice. Pity about World Woods but more than an hour each way is just a bit too far. Will have a look at Reunion.
  5. Thanks for the great suggestion - looks like fun. Have made a note of it and will definitely go. I have made a short list which includes GC new course, Panther Lake, Osprey Ridge, World Woods (PB) and Victoria Hills. I also have Shingle Creek, Celebration, Eagle Creek and Harmony Preserve as a 'B' list - would you rate those above any on the previous list ? Also as a links course how does Royal St Cloud compare to the Grand Cyprus new course ? Thanks again.
  6. RBZ driver. Was hitting around 250 yards. Now hitting about 270 on average but can crack it over 300 if I really want to wind it. Seems to have a larger sweetspot so it still flies if you miss-hit slightly. I have read reviews about the sound being too loud. It might be slightly louder than average but I hardly notice. And when you see teh ball flying further than you used to hit it you can only hear angels singing !!
  7. Hi, I am in South Africa and planning a golf trip for 8 guys. Would really appreciate some advice on what courses to play in the Orlando area (staying around the Disney area but will have a car). There seem to be so many great courses and without any knowledge of them it's nearly impossible for me to choose (we're looking at playing 5 rounds). Planning to go sometime between February and May next year. Is any particular month better (for quality of the course, price, weather, etc) ? Most of us are in the low 20's in terms of handicap so we're not looking for courses that are too daunting. I think the more scenic the course the better. Preferably under $100 but since we're travelling 8000 miles we'll pay more for courses that are worth it. I'd appeciate any advice from people who know all the options. Thanks
