Any other opinions from people not directly tied to the product they're endorsing

I'm looking for an instructional video program for someone that's about a 16 handicapper who has been playing golf for a while but could use some more direction on proper form and needs help with getting more power. Looking for something under $200. Any ideas would be much appreciated. Thanks

I snapped my 6 iron shaft on my Mizuno MP53's. I believe they have True Temper Dynaflex Gold shafts (Stiff). I will be taking it to my local golf shop to get it fixed but want some advice as to getting the shaft replaced. I'm an 12 handicapper with a low ballflight. Should I just get a regular steel shaft? Anything similar that I should try? I just worry that they won't have this shaft available or that it will be expensive to get it replaced. I've never had to replace a shaft before so excuse my naivety.

Anyone... Bueller? Bueller?

Ive been working on trying to hing my wrists more but I hit the ball fairly far, 170yds for 7 iron. So I dont think that's what is causing my inconsistencies with the driver. Ive noticed that I push my hips towards the ball on the downswing. I believe you want your glutes to be on the same line throughout the takeaway and downswing. As if your but was lightly touching a wall behind you. Anyone else think this could be an issue?

I've been Playing Golf for: 10+ yrs, serious for last 2 My current handicap index or average score is: 12 My typical ball flight is: Driver - low draw, but very inconsistent. Irons are normal flight with a draw The shot I hate or the "miss" I'm trying to reduce/eliminate is: Snap hook with driver My biggest issue is with my driver. I'd love comments on my driver swing specifically but I posted my irons swings as well for comparison. Thanks in advance.

Which ball for an 11 handicapper?
ttaggart replied to ttaggart's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
Bump Also, do you guys put much credence into Golf Digest's rating on golf balls? Based off their latest magazine I was thinking about trying out Bridgestone e5/6 and Titleist NXT Tour -
Move the ball up further in your stance. If you look at the frame at contact you can see you aren't hitting up on the ball, hence the low ball flight. The major flaw that pops out to me is the movement of your head. Try and keep it still and not move it off the ball so much in the backswing. Your swing looks really good for a 20 handicapper, especially your follow through

Just started really working on my game this past year, down to an 11 from an 18. I've always just played balls that I've found on sale. Recently I've just been playing Costco's Callaway Hex Control because of how cheap they are. My swing speed is 100-105 for driver and 90-95 for irons. I'm just wondering if I'm leaving some shots out there by not playing a better ball. What are your guy's opinions? If I should be playing a better ball how do most people go about choosing the right one for their game? Try a different sleeve per rnd? Thanks in adavnce

I was recently fitted for irons and now have my irons 1" longer. But my wedges (52, 56, 60) are all stock length. Is it standard to get your wedges changed to match your fitting? Or do most people just keep them stock? Thanks I'm a 12 handicap

Where do you find these guys? At local golf courses, commercial golf shops (Golfsmith, Roger Dunn, etc...) or a major brand's fitting center? Other?

I'm talking only about irons. I already have a putter and driver

This may be a stupid question, but I've never done a fit testing for clubs nor bought an expensive set. With the amount of money I am willing to spend how do I even go about finding which clubs to test out? Do I just take a 7-iron from 10 different sets and hit 10 shots with each club and then get it down to a couple sets and then ultimately make a decision? Once I decide on which clubs I ultimately want to get is that when I do the fit testing to see if any adjustments need to be made? Or do I do the fit testing before I start hitting any clubs so that I could be steered in a certain direction based on my swing style which can be paired with a suitable set of clubs? Thanks for the help

I'm looking to get a new set of clubs but not sure how I should go about it. I'm looking in the $700 range. Are there fitting centers that I should go to besides my local Golfsmith? Seems like they are kind of amatuerish there. If I'm going to spend that much money I want to make sure it's going to be with someone who knows exactly what they're talking about. I also have no idea what kind/brand of clubs I want. So just need help on where to get started. Thanks

I've made some adjustments since the first post. How does it look now? One thing I've noticed is that my right foot gets up on my toe before impact. Is this a major problem that needs to be fixed? Any drills that you guys have used that work? Also, my follow through just looks funny to me, not fluid. I can't tell if I'm doing anything wrong, just doesn't look right. Any other thoughts or suggestions are much appreciated. In these vids I hit the ball really well. I think only one fade, and one low liner.

Bueller? Bueller? Bueller?

I bought the Adams Speedline F11 3W with only the regular flex in it. I did this before I ever had my swing speed tested. With my driver and hybrid I have stiff flex shafts. I swing at about 100 mph with my driver, probably 90-95 with my fairway metals. I am wildly inconsistent with my 3W, everything from hooks to slices, to topping it or chucking it. Very different from any other club I hit. I'm wondering if this could be due to the fact that I am using a regular flex when I actually need a stiff flex. So do you guys think I should switch shafts? Maybe it's the entire club that needs to be replaced? Or am I just looking for excuses? I just don't want to spend $50 or so to have it reshafted to a stiff flex and find that that's not the problem. Any insights would be much appreciated. Just FYI, I'm a 14 handicap

Thanks for the replies. Is the position of my club at the top of swing that detrimental to the rest of my swing? Ricky Fowler seems to go even further outside than I do. Then again maybe he just has a very unique swing and not one you'd try and mimic. After seeing my swing and comparing it to others it seem as though I have a lot of knee bend at address and the ball is further away from me which causes me to bend over more at the waist. Does anyone else notice this and are either of these a problem? Thanks.

I've been Playing Golf for: 10+ years, but seriously for the past 6 months My current handicap index or average score is: 15 My typical ball flight is: High ball flight. Fade my low (P, 9, 8...) irons and draw my highers irons. Don't know why. The shot I hate or the "miss" I'm trying to reduce/eliminate is: The pull hook. When I used to slice I corrected it by using my hands a lot. Now that I've corrected my slice with a better swing sometimes I still get too handsy. Videos:

About 6 months ago I bought an Adams Speedline F11 3 and 5 wood with the Voodoo VS shaft. FIrst mistake was probably buying them online before hitting them at a store. Anyways, I can't hit either of these 2 clubs at all. I can count on one hand how many times I've hit a great shot with either club. Just no consistency whatsoever. Slice it, hook it, top it, etc. I'm around a 16 handicap but at least with my driver and irons I can hit some pretty good shots along with the inconsistency of some poor ones. I'm wondering if the type of shaft could be a problem. Maybe it has too much flex or something else? Or something else with the club. I don't know what my swing speed is, something I plan to go check today as I go to buy a new driver. Just wondering what I should do with these 2 clubs. Look to get a new shaft, just sell them and get something else, or just keep using them and hope something clicks. Thanks for the thoughts

I seem to be hitting a lot of fat greenside bunker shots of late. I used to play at crappy courses where the sand was more like dirt and the club would skip more than dig and I didn't have to worry too much about hitting my shots fat. But now that I'm playing at some nicer courses with nice bunkers it seems like I am catching way too much sand and having trouble getting out of greenside bunkers. Thanks for the tips.

Where to start? Teaching a Newbie
ttaggart replied to ttaggart's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
Not everyone can afford a private instructor. Looking to do this by just teaching him the fundamentals and letting him decide if he really does want to pursue this as a hobby and possible take lessons on his own down the line. -
My brother-in-law wants to start to learn how to play. I feel as though I have a lot of knowledge that I could impart on him and know the swing mechanics pretty well but I'm just wondering where I should start with him. Should I just take him to the range, hand him a driver and go to work on creating a proper swing? Start him off with a PW and work up from there? Just let him create his own swing and make minor tweeks to it? Any advice would be great, thanks
