  1. Saevel, thank you for that picture comparison and the explanation...it is now easy to see. I will work on it some this weekend and hopefully get some more video to post. Unfortunately I haven't been able to load that video showing the steady head drill, but I will keep trying when I get a chance.
  2. Interesting...I had been quite hunched over before, and pretty close to the ball as well. However, I had been very inconsistent, and upon finally getting some video of myself, it looked like a very non-athletic stance and I seemed to be crowding the ball. My right knee was pretty much locked on the backswing, and I was told I was overswinging. Plus, I had been hitting some very fat shots. I tried standing closer to the ball today but ended up digging into the ground a lot. Everything was still short and pushed or push-sliced, except oddly enough, my driver. It was my most consistent club today, very different from earlier in the year when everything I hit with it was a snap-hook. If it's not one thing, it's another, it seems...
  3. Hi all- I've posted a few times on here before, and now I've finally gotten around to posting my swing in the Member swing section. I have been recording my swing every time I've been to the range over the last several weeks, and it is really helping to see what I'm doing right or wrong. For anyone who would be so kind to take a look at my swing, here are some of my observations. - Just about everything I'm hitting currently is starting right and traveling fairly short. I have determined this must be due to a steep swing plane and hitting behind the ball. I used to have a very shallow, inside backswing, but I still do this thing at the top of my swing that seems to reroute the club which results in an over-the-top move. - It appears that I am transferring my weight, but I think my less-than-ideal impact position and steep downswing are resulting in my club bottoming out too soon. I have been working on keeping my right knee flexed in the backswing and squating through the beginning of the downswing, but after watching swings of various tour pros, it seems that I really need to "stand up" with my left leg through impact. Does this sound like an accurate assessment? I have been working online with the Rotary Swing system for those who are familiar, and I am uploading my swing there every 2 weeks, but I was just trying to get some other input in the meantime. I am really hoping to build some consistency, and even though there are some things I can tell I need to improve on, it doesn't seem to me that I am that far off. Any input would be greatly appreciated!

I have been pretty good about taping my swing at the ranger over the last few weeks, and one thing I have noticed is my head seems to be moving forward too much as I shift my weight, and I think this is partly responsible for my poor impact position (not much spine tilt, hands not ahead of ball). This is quite apparent after watching videos of Tiger and seeing how still he keeps his head as the rest of his body moves forward. Any tips on how to keep my head back while pushing my hips forward? It just feels so unnatural when I try...
  6. Well I found a used 51* golfsmith wedge for $15 so I think I will play around with that a bit and maybe just forgo the lob wedge for now (I'm playing 18 today and tomorrow). I've had to work on my full swing so much earlier this year, but now I finally have the luxury to get back to working on the short game, so I'll keep trying all different kinds of shots with the wedges. Just curious, for those that carry 4 wedges, do you use a hybrid to replace both 5w and 3i? I have never owned one because I never felt I could hit one well, but I probably could now. I usually use my 5w for long rough shots but feel at a loss when I'm in the 170-200 range because I just can't get my low irons airborne out of the rough.
  7. Hello Sandtrap, I have been working on hitting my wedges lately (54* sw and 60* lw) in an effort to build some consistency in my 100 yd and less game. I have practiced various shots off of fairway and rough, and I have noticed I hit my sand wedge with much more consistency in terms of loft and distance, generally about 70-80 yards. However, I can't seem to hit my lob wedge quite as well...when struck properly, it probably travels about 40-50 yards, but I often think I hesitate on my downswing for fear of blading the ball and sending it shooting past the green. When I feel that hesitation, the clubhead speed slows down and it travels woefully short (blading happens occasionally with my sand wedge as well, but less frequently). The other issue I have is that my sand wedge travels at best 70-80 yards, and I hit my pitching wedge probably about 110. I often find myself in between clubs at a critical juncture and end up doing a 3/4 PW swing, but I am less consistent when not executing a full swing. Would it be worth it to invest in a 50ish degree gap wedge and play around with it for awhile? I already carry 14 clubs when I play: 1,3,5 wood, 3-9 iron, PW, SW, LW (and I am stubborn about giving up those low irons or changing to a 56* SW since I love my current PING iwedge oh so much). I only play casually so I don't think anyone would care if I carried an extra just to try out some different shots. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Brian
  8. Hello everyone, I have been trying to work on my swing again this year and I have been getting decent results from my irons, but woods have been a completely different story. I tend to hit high on the ball with my woods, usually resulting in an ugly ground ball...if not that, then I have an ugly snap-hook that takes off way left and barely gets off the ground. Is there any reason (or number of reasons) that my results from my woods are so different from my irons?
  9. Thanks to everyone for the info. I think I'll take it slow and work on pitch shots for a while and work back up to full swing. Perhaps I'll invest in a camera, as that sounds like a great way to work on things by myself.
  10. Hi everyone, I am new to this site and I was hoping I could talk to a few people that could convince me I can fix my swing and not walk away from the game. I am 26 and have played recreationally for about 15 years. I am 6'0", 190 lbs, and in good shape. However, I have never had any consistency in my game and have battled a slice for a long time. I have been practicing more over the last few years and taken lessons from pros as well as instruction from a local golf learning center (since I am now working full-time and can afford it). I feel like the putting and short game instruction has really helped me, but I am completely lost on my full swing. I thought I was making progress this year until my last outing and the last 2 times to the driving range. It's as if I've completely forgotten how to hit a golf ball. I hit behind it every time, even if I try to keep my weight forward the entire time. It's embarrassing to even go to the range and try to work on something. I feel like old bed habits have been ingrained in my swing and getting instruction from several different people has me all confused. Has anyone been in a similar rut before and found something/someone that really helped? What's my best option at this point? Just keep working with the local pro and hope for the best? Or try to find somebody help me completely rebuild my swing from scratch? I have no illusions of being a tour pro, but I would at least like to hold my own and not feel like I don't belong on the golf course.
