  2. It is just motivation wise I think playing a round would motivate me even more to practice. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy the range, but have absolutely no concept of how that correlates to actually playong a round!
  3. I've been playing for about a month and have had 4 lessons. I am getting slightly frustrated at now playing any proper golf just being down the range. However following my last lesson I can start to see the individual drills etc coming together. Just got to find that consistency. Wish I had been more like you and just got some rounds under my belt but my instructor has said to wait for a bit and continue with the lessons. :-\
  4. Wow, that's quite expensive compared to over in England. My lessons are £18.00 for 30mins with a pro!
  5. Hey, I'm in the same boat. Only started playing a couple of weeks ago and have my first lesson on Tuesday. Already finding myself at the range most nights after work and have picked up so many useful titbits from this forum already!
  6. Any other England based people that play in the Cambridgeshire area?
  7. Just heard the result, but did anyone watch it? Good fight?
  8. Thanks for the feedback. I can't really see the point thwacking ball after ball off a tee with my irons when I would rarely do it during a round. Will perhaps stick to driver/woods off tee under cover and venture onto the grass, if the weather isn't too bad, to use my irons.
  9. That's what I find off the mat. I either scrape the top of the ball or plough the club into the mat. I suppose grass would be the best idea but the English summer means that I would be stood out in the pouring rain and wind every time I wanted to hit some balls!
  10. Was just wondering whether people practice directly off the mat with their irons at the range? I can get a good strike off the tee but I am worried that when I am doing a round such practice will be irrelevant!
  11. Thanks. Went to the range tonight and played around with interlocking and overlapping the little finger. Think overlapping was most comfortable. Came back for the first time without blisters aswelk which was a bonus!
  12. Yeh, think its a fairly well established UK manufacturer. Hadn't realised so many of the people on here were from the USA!
  13. Thanks guys. There is actually a par 3 at my local golf club so I will have to have a go after i've had a few lessons. Went to the range today - About 1 in 5 of my attempts with my irons went anywhere near where I wanted them to go, and about 1 in 8 attempts with my driver/woods! Also managed to stop the blisters today by adapting my grip but for some reason I have got one on the top right side of the little finger on my right hand. In an ideal world where should the little finger ont he right hand be in terms of my grip - on the club itself or on top of one of the fingers on my left hand?
  14. Hi, new to the game. I start lessons soon but wondered on average how long does it take the average player/did it take you to progress from your first lesson/range session to a full round? The reason I ask is that I have been invited to play with some clients and have managed to convince them a session at the new state of the art range near me would be a better idea but i'm not sure how long I can hold off before I am made to play 18 holes and quite probably embarrass myself! Also how many rounds does it take to establish your handicap?
  15. Please excuse my ignorance but what is a "house" brand? Actually off to the range tonight to try them out. Got terrible blisters on my hands when I last went and was trying clubs before I bought. I am armed this time with a glove at least but reckon I really need my first lesson to hurry up and get here as I am told that this is a sign my grip is incorrect/too firm. Just wanted a fairly decent starter set at a reasonable price (£160), so it sounds like these should do the job.
