OP was looking to ask how Fred Funk made out with his similar wrist surgery. Not heartless comments from the peanut gallery. Been to multiple hand specialists. Having surgery done by an orthopedic sports hand specialist in Boston. Surgery is May 7th. I'll let you know in a few months how it effects my golf game, if at all.
-
In a few weeks I am having surgery on my left wrist. Ugggggg My Trapezium bone is hitting my Radius bone AND my Capitate bone is hitting my Lunate bone. This is all caused by Arthritis. The Trapezium bone hurts the worse. I've been dealing with this for the past 3 years and you can see the X-rays show over time it's getting worse. I've had numerous Cortisone shots that do not last long and tried wearing a brace while playing golf. I've seen multiple orthopedic hand specialists and they all say the same thing. Bone Fusion. Surgery will only allow me 30% mobility vs. 70% now due to the swelling. So, on the bright side, this might help my chipping :-) But, I'll need to adjust my full swing due to the lack of flexibility in my wrist. Has any one had a similar surgical procedure ??? if so, how did it effect your golf game. I read where Fred Funk had wrist fusion surgery. I've written numerous letters to the PGA & Golf Channel trying to contact Fred to discuss his surgery but, my letters must have fallen in to the circular file. Any & All suggestions are appreciated.

A friend gave me his 43" Spider putter because he couldn't putt with it. I cut the grip off then cut the shaft down to 38". I replaced the putter grip with a factory OEM TM grip and changed the weights (2) to 14 grams each. This has to be the best putter I ever used in my life. It's soooooo easy to putt with two of my golfing buddies did the same thing. I don't know the exact weight of the club, but WOW!!!! the combo works well.

Taylormade TP .350 tip Diameter vs. Standard .335
Golfer6760 replied to Golfer6760's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Below I received an E-mail answering my question regarding the Taylormade TP vs. Standard clubs & shafts. This answered my question and I hope it helped other golfers. Hello, Thank you for your email and for playing Taylormade Golf. This is a way for manufacturers to know the difference between two different styles of shafts. The TP shafts are heavier and stiffer and are made differently to match up with a faster and quicker swing tempo. Golf shaft companies have made shafts to fit that swing profile and we use that designation to make it easier to know the difference. Thank you, Thank you again and we wish you continued success with your golf game! Taylormade TP .350 tip Diameter vs. Standard .335
Golfer6760 replied to Golfer6760's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I contacted Taylormade to ask the question why TP Drivers & Fairway Woods have a .335 Tip while Non TP Drivers & Fairway Woods use .350 Tips. They couldn't answer my question -
I've been collecting new Taylormade R7 clubs for the past few years. Yup a strange hobby. Question: I've noticed all the TP Drivers & Fairway Woods have a .350 tip. While the standard Drivers & Fairway Woods have a .335 Tip Diameter. Could some one explain why the TP clubs use a .350 vs. a .335 shaft Could you also explain what the performance difference would be. Thanks ahead of time

Taylormade RAC Wedge Information Help :-)
Golfer6760 posted a topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I just picked up a couple of RAC TP Satin Wedges in very nice condition. Question: Looking at the face of the club head in the top left corner there's a small "Z" stamped there. What does the "Z" stand for? I've noticed via searching there's the same wedges with "Y" stamped in the same location. Does anybody have any information about these wedges? The TM website doesn't explain what the letters are. Thank You :-) -
Is This Protocol (Paying a Pro's Fee in a Weekly Game)???????
Golfer6760 replied to Golfer6760's topic in Golf Talk
The fact wasn't the $20 or to get posters to argue. And, it has nothing to do with belonging to a CC or who has money or not. I don't mind paying for the assistants anti fee. I assume he's not rolling in the dough as an assistant pro on a local 9 hole course tucked in a suburbia neighborhood. The same as tipping bag persons when they are getting paid by the hour also. The issue is it seems expected. The same as tipping a waitress. That is truly your option based on a service provided. Not a requirement or Protocol as it was handed to me. -
Is This Protocol (Paying a Pro's Fee in a Weekly Game)???????

Don't get me wrong. He was a pleasure to play with and a pure gentleman through out the round. It was the game organizer who invited him in to the game so, he was an invited guest from the more I learn about the situation. Wasn't the kids fault. The organizer should have informed me before the round about the protocol. At the time I assumed they couldn't get a 4th for the group so the assistant filled the open slot. He never uttered a word about my swing during the round. I wouldn't have wanted him to. I like my swing and have a coach in FL. Another player in our foursome was having trouble off the tee and I saw/heard him talking to him about it. Was none of my business. I never asked for any tips and he never offered. Did I benefit from his score? No. In the quota he shot -5 and I shot -3 and the other two in our foursome shot -5/e. The individual game winner shot +17 :-o and he's a scratch player Whooo Hoooo. Next closest was +5. We were Waaaay out of the money that day. Will I play with him again?? Yes in a heartbeat :-) When I am the Inviter outside a game situation. -

I get the impression some members feel it's a privilege to play with a decent player. I'm wasn't impressed . I was waiting for some members to remind me to kiss his ring IMO he's just an employee of the private club I belong to. "Go get my bag son" I did learn one thing. The next time I'll say "I'm Out" for the game and play with others. -
Is This Protocol (Paying a Pro's Fee in a Weekly Game)???????

Hello Everyone During the summer months I play at a local 9 hole 6K yard course. On weekends a group of approx. 24 guys get together and play a quota match. We get paired up and play the field. The quota entry fee is $20 where 50% of the purse goes to the individual winners & the other 50% go to the best team. Last weekend I was paired up with our Assistant Pro at the club who is seeking his PGA membership and hopes to become a full member by the end of the season. He's a nice young gentleman and hits a pretty decent ball. After the round I asked the assistant for his $20 anti in to the pool. He told me he doesn't pay. I said Huh!!!! He replied his partner puts up his money for his game. :-o I asked the person running the game and he said it's protocol that the partner of the Assistant or Pro put up his portion as respect. I am still baffled by that one. So, is this so called common protocol???? Maybe if he was Greg Norman or Tiger Woods I'd agree. But this kid is nothing more than a PGA apprentice. He shot a 74 with no strokes to the field. I wasn't impressed. Also, would he have a Ghin #??? I couldn't find his past scores or Handicap on line. I would love to hear your opinion :-) -
At a nine hole golf course with starting times @ 7:30am on a ty pical Saturday. How many foursomes should be scheduled to play in the first shift so the 1st group off shouldn't have to wait to tee off at the turn? I've normally seen 14 foursomes with a 9 min interval between foursomes. I played at a club last week that had 19 foursomes signed up in the first shift. Foursomes 16-19 playing their front nine were slotted in alternately with foursomes 1-4 making the turn for their back nine. 2hrs and 3 min for the front nine. It took almost 3hrs to play the back nine. What's normal?????????

I recently played in our annual 4-Ball Match Play Tournament run by our committee at our local club. I noticed when the updated Ghin scores were posted on 7/1 the rounds I played were not under Tournament Scores. I asked the local Pro and he said this club only recognizes Metal Play events as Tournament Scores. I debated the fact that the 3 Major Tournaments at our club should be recognized as Tournament scores as have in the past years. I was told the Committee recently changed the club ruling to Metal Play scores only shall be posted as Tournament scores. The only event played at the club all season using Medal Play would be two rounds for the Club Championship Qualifier. IMO this local club rule would eliminate the exceptional scores from the Ghin system and allow golfers not to be as aggressive during normal play and put the hammer down during Tournament Play. Is this promoting sandbaggers?

Thanks I knew he was a cheat with a big mouth.

I played a match over the weekend with a person who smoked the longest cigar I ever seen. On every Tee box he would drop the Cigar to the ground and move it with his club using it as an alignment stick. Is this legal??? I brought it to his attention and he spouted off a four letter word to me.

Years ago I had a bad slice that would show up at the worse times and result in a big number on that hole. I finally bit the bullet and decided to take lessons from one of the Pro's at my club. It was the best thing I ever did. Larry (Pro) untwisted me and got my stance square & grip back (not weak) where it belonged. He showed me on video how my clubface was wide open in my backswing and how I held the face open through out my swing. Oh!!! the other thing was, I went to the practice facility as much as I possibly could. I was determined get better. I still take a handful of lessons from Larry every winter season. In fact, I look forward to them. We have lunch and occasionally get out on the course together for a $2 Nassau . And, if you think it's going to cost a lot of money you are wrong. The money I saved on buying new Drivers trying to solve the problem with equipment paid for the lessons 10 fold. In fact, I'm still hitting my R7 driver right up or past my buddies with new R1's and loving it That's how much money over the years I saved. IMO take lessons from a Pro. You may not play well during the transition, but when it clicks, golf becomes a lot of fun.

My #1 obligation is to my best friend. The league season is split in two halves and we both decided to leave the league after the 1st half is completed. Shame on the league administration & committee, not us. As far as leaving the club entirely I will need to think long and hard about that. Being a 27 year member I cannot convince myself that leaving all my golfing buddies is the right decision. Because we have a political Pro and bad committee shouldn't be the deciding factor. Right now I'm all for ignoring the bad apples who think they are above the rules of golf and play my game where they are not. It's easy to ignore the Pro, he doesn't do anything anyway :-o

I drafted a letter of resignation last night effective the end of the season. I resigned from the League as of immediately. I will hand deliver the letter to the club on Monday. It's sad I was given no choice but to resign the club I enjoyed playing at due to the people (Pro & Committees) who are supposed to stand by the rules of golf. Nothing was solved & my resignation will not start a wave of resignations. They (Pro & Committee) will continue to disregard the rules of golf as long as revenue is up.

Well!!!!!!!!!!! I was just notified by the Chair of the Committee that the match in question will stand as changed. At the meeting the Pro pleaded his case to the committee against the USGA ruling and the committee agreed with the Pro. I was told "Right or Wrong" the decision of the committee is final. The committee & Pro also agreed that all other matches that were changed after the fact prior to this one incident shall be returned to "As Played" status. This was the kicker!!!!!!!!! When I debated the decision to the Committee Chair I was told you need to "Go get a Hobby" So, as the rules of golf go, IMO the PGA, USGA, MGA, Committee's & Players could care less about the USGA rules as they have all turned a deaf ear to this issue. A lesson to be learned about unenforced rules & relying on honesty in any sport.

Thanks Fourputt I've belonged to this private club for 27 years and I have a lot of friends there. My decision is to finish out the League's season which ends on August 19th. The League is once a week for 9 holes of 2 man per team match play. The format is win/lose & points. I would walk away today, but this is the only time my 72 year old partner plays golf weekly. He looks forward to getting out on Tuesday for 9 holes then having dinner at the club. I couldn't walk away from him in the middle of the season. As to my partner caring about the rules, he said he could care less anymore, I just play for the enjoyment. Next season I've decided I will not return to the league for sure. I still play at this club in the summer frequently during the week + weekends with some great groups of guys who run some excellent games of quota pools & Nassau's with groups of 20-30+ guys a few times a week. Lot's of fun and good golf. So, leaving the club is not one of my future thoughts. As far as the Pro & Committee's. 99% of my play 3-4 days a week is with groups of guys not run by the club. I have not for many years participated in any Club run tournaments (4-ball, member/member/ club championship) where you have to pay to play your own club for chits (Pro Shop Credits) in the pro shop where Pro V1's sell for $49 per dozen :-o There's a Golfsmith a few miles down the road that has a larger selection goodies and the prices are in-line. I already have 100+ club logo shirts in the closet that I've never worn so who needs more. As in this instance of the rules decisions, I'm still blown away by the resident pro for his lack of standing behind the correct rules decision. Goes to show you his job supersedes the rules of golf. It's a shame the PGA, USGA & MGA don't have an enforcement or decision committee for the playing members of each association. It's these groups of associations that it's the playing member who supports them, but the poor golfer gets no benefits in return. So far, these organizations answer to my situation (who I've written all of them) is "Quit the Club". That doesn't solve the problem. It sweeps it under the rug and breeds future cheaters IMO. Maybe it's about time these organization who make and distribute the rules of golf who we the players support stand behind the player and defend them from the actions of the cheat. I won't hold my breath

I was given a set of TM R7 Draw irons 5-SW in nice shape. They have Reax 55 Graphite Shafts R shafts. My question: Being a tinkerer can the weights be removed and changed? Is there a TM tool for that? I searched the forum's here and the internet and didn't find anything. Shaft .370 Parallel or Taper Tip???? Any info about them besides the TM website specs would be appreciated

They have fixed the problem and now have the Forward Tee Stroke Holes on the Score Cards. So, players now know what holes they should be getting strokes on. That's one hurdle we're over. In the meantime the Pro & League Administrator went back through all the cards of matches previously played for many weeks and re-stroked the holes and determined the matches won/lost by the scores on the card changing all the results of the League to date. The players who won instead of lost love the Pro. The players who lost are out of luck. I debated the point with the Pro that at this course concessions "Gimmies" are the length of the pin. IMO he doesn't care and shakes his head and looks at me while I talk. I get the impression the resident professional thinks the spelling of his title in "God". Last week a League member was told his match points were adjusted because the card was scored wrong even though the match results were agreed upon on the 18th hole. And you want to know something? There's no place to complain & get results. The committee does what ever the Pro says and the USGA will only recite the rules & won't enforce the rules. Best thing to do is quit and not play golf. Terrific solution Grrrrrrrrrrr!!!!!!!!
