2. joekelly, I never even thought to go to Thailand. I'm sure that would be a great trip to do with a few mates!! Thanks I'll keep it in mind.
3. Hey thanks Club Rat. That info you have provided is great, like you said What an Itinerary!!! Some great points on all those locations and by the sounds of it I’m not going to be disappointed wherever I end up. I was a little shocked when you said I will need to book a year in advance for the popular courses in Ireland/Scotland but just prompts me to get a move on now Christmas is over. But again, thanks so much for your advice… if I had the money I’d be booking a round the world golfing journey (but wouldn’t we all)!!
4. k-troop, great criteria... especially no. 4 haha
5. Hey, I have started creating a Golfer’s App (not a game) for mobile devices and just wanted to see what you all think, after all it is for you guys!! It’s designed to let any user read or post reviews about: Golf Courses and Driving Ranges Stores Golfing Equipment, and Tournaments You will be able to “tag” the golf course / store location etc. you are at and then give it a rating (i.e. 5 stars), write a review and also if it is a course you can give it a difficulty rating so others know how hard the course is. I have also put a map function in where you can see all the courses, golf stores etc. close to your location then you just click on the pin and it will show you the overall rating, latest reviews etc. I’m currently trying to incorporate a function where you can add your own event, say when and where the event will happen and allow for contact information to be added for other people to see then they can register for the event. So you could set up a game with people of similar handicap or form a group to go to a tournament to spectate together… Well, I’d be real interested in what you all think… any advice and ideas for improvement or additional features would be greatly appreciated and hopefully I can get it up and running soon!!
6. Wansteadimp that's great content, thanks heaps! Some really good insight which I will have to look into further... I have always wanted to go to Dubai though as I am an Engineer and interested in all the unique structures etc. But yeah thanks again for your feedback.
7. Awesome info guys, thanks heaps! I am an Aussie but would definitely be keen to try schedule an overseas trip that coincides with a great tournament somewhere, probably US. I think I would be looking for a great atmosphere and some fun as some of you have pointed out. I think that the best view of all the greatest shots would be on the TV right...? Is it very different being there seeing the actual shots that you would probably get a better view from the Tele? I would think it would be in some way but as I said I would also be looking for an enjoyable event with good atmosphere. Again, thanks for your comments!
8.
It's a redneck chicken.
Haha Ernest Jones is spot on! HazardMagnet although i appreciated the advice I think I might stick with Valleygolfer's advice and just play more lol. Great stories guys, definitely gave me a good laugh... especially the Big Breasted Story, thanks cooke119
9. Yeah I have been told Spain by a few other contacts as well so I will definitely be looking into that option. Apart from trying to coincide the trip with a major tournament I have been trying to look at other golf related things to do while travelling but can only really think of shopping (golf stores) and maybe trying to tee up a lesson or something... Can you think of anything else that I could look into?
10. ThominOH, great points and summary. There is a fair few things that I didn't even touch on and I'm glad you brought them up like condition and maintenance of the course which I also believe is a major item. Quite often the courses with great aesthetics are the ones that are well maintained will the higher green fees etc. Clubhouse and facilities is also something that I would look highly upon. But as I said, great points raised and thanks for your input. I will be interested to see what items other people will highlight!
11. Hey All, I was just wondering if anyone could recommend the best golfing tournaments to visit as a spectator? Which ones have you been to or which ones would you like to go to?
12. A few months back I played a round in Tasmania, Australia at Barnbougle Dunes. The course is so aesthetically captivating but yet very unforgiving. I'm not a top golfer by any means and do swing a few balls wide now and again... so as you can imaging my score was a little higher than I am normally used to. So in one hand the course was so nice but the other hand it was not a course I could shoot my best score on. After getting back home to the Gold Coast and having a few rounds on my usual courses I felt quite the reverse of the experience in Tasmania. I was shooting much better scores but the courses that I was playing were no where near as 'nice'. The other feature that always comes to mind is the green fee's. I think Barnbougle Dunes was like 3 times the costs of the courses I play at home...! Now if I eliminated the green fees from the equation I think I would sacrifice the good scores and in turn lose a few more balls to regularly play at Barnbougle but if I incorporate the x3 green fees, I would definitely be more inclined to stay at home. I guess what I'm trying to get at by the above is how would you rate a course? As in what aspects would you use to give it an overall ranking or define the appropriate course for 1) the social golfer 2) the seasoned golfer and 3) the pro... or something similar. Here is a few that I have mentioned above that we should be able to add onto: 1) Green Fees 2) Aesthetics (aww factor) 3) Difficulty, which could probably be broken down further like: Layout, length, water Unforgiving-ness... Undulation / Flatness of greens and fairways P.S. This is what we were doing for ‘some’ of the day at Barnbougle haha…
13. Hey Guys, This year (2012) I have missed out on a lot of golf due to work and other commitments and I have decided to plan an annual (if my finances let me) "Golfing Holiday" starting in 2013. Obviously I would like to do a little more than golf but would love to ensure I see the best courses and meet some cool people/golfers on my trip. That said, I am from the Gold Coast in Australia where it is golfing season all year round which I know is not the case around the world (sorry to rub it in haha) I was initially thinking UK and Ireland for 2013 which as far as google tells me the best time is July/August... Has anyone been on a "Golfing Holiday" or could recommend somewhere different? The other scenario I was thinking was it would be cool if I organised it to coincide with a Major Tournament or Event that I could go to or something... Anyways, let me know your thoughts so I can make the most of it! Thanks
14. haha Gilberg, please feel free to use that one and I can assure you it's true. I do live in a house with 1/3 of an acre. We have chooks down the back and two small sheds with like tools, tables and chairs and other random stuff in them (which at the time we had stashed the golf bags in). I'm guessing since the sheds are next to the chooks pen the mice/rats come from there. I said mice because they weren't that big but I guess they could have been babies or something. But anyways just thought some people might get a laugh at it, hope you enjoyed it :-)
15. Hey thanks guys. Yeah golfing season all year round here but especially hot and sunny this time of the year. I can wait for the Christmas / New Year break from work to get a few rounds in!!
