  1. @mchepp Thanks for the reply and words of caution. I know just because he works with Matt Every won't mean I will find the same success... Luckily I am athletic and have four years of college golf to spend working on my swing!
  2. In my mind it seems like he views the swing as a puzzle. He says everyone has their own swing with different parts and so while nothing is "wrong" with each individual component it might not fit the rest of the swing or, in the case of my metaphor, a puzzle piece that doesn't fit right. That idea just struck me as a very positive and simple way to look at a swing. That's basically all I know about him. I know he works with Matt Every and is based out of Florida... I was really posting here to try and learn more about him though.
  3. Anyone on here worked with Dan Carraher before? I am intrigued by his teaching style and have exchanged a few emails with him. Seems like he would be a great teacher. I am considering doing an online lesson with him and seeing how it goes... What can you guys tell me about him?
  4. If there is anyone following this thread, most of the conversation will be shifting over to my "MySwing" thread which can be found on my profile page. Thanks!
  5. Face On shots are a bit hard for me at the moment because I just prop my phone up against a fence behind me but I just ordered one of those bag mount camera holder things so I should be able to do one from the side in a few days!! DTL I can do sooner and get it up. Yes @mvmac you are correct I get narrow in my downswing, I have previously worked with Brian Mogg trying to fix it but it is hard when I can only see him once a month, if that. We discussed the idea of a "constant arc" because I used to be very wide in the backswing to a narrow downswing. The backswing has gotten better but the downswing not so much. I am just creating a huge amount of lag which is both a blessing and a curse. Will try to get the video up as soon as I can! Thanks.
  6. Thanks for the reply @mvmac , any thoughts on the loop in the transition? What about you @iacas ? You guys were helping me a bunch last time I was on here and then I just kinda dropped off the face of the Earth so my bad and thanks. I am going to really dedicate myself to the knowledge on this website now. You both have commented on some of my other threads that I have copied here to keep all my swing stuff together... it feels a bit messy but oh well. Thanks again.
  7. One last thing! I have used this site intermittently for the last three years but I think I am going to try to use it more consistently. Quick few notes for anyone who looks at this: I started playing golf three years ago I work about one a month with Brian Mogg (see my other thread) I am committed to playing college golf at Occidental I am always trying to learn more about golf, which is part of why I am on here!
  8. post above and this post I originally made as separate threads but was told that I should probably keep everything about my swing in myswing thread so I am re posting them here, sorry for any confusion! Hey everyone I am curious about this loop in my swing I have, and have always had, that happens in the transition at the top. Take a look: Here is a different swing, same loop. Ignore the different positions and stuff, I am always fidgeting and trying to figure out what feels best. Now. Here is Keegan Bradley with a similar loop: But here is Adam Scott without one... Off the top of my head I think Sergio has a bit of a loop too. So, I don't know! Does it even matter? Someone talk to me and explain please!
  9. So recently I have finally put 2 and 2 together and realized my left side is much stronger in the swing which causes problems. 1) divots go left, even if shot is straight. No instructor has been able to figure it out until my trainer mentioned it an suddenly everything made sense. Apparently that's okay though. 2) possible back injuries (see below) Me at impact: Tiger Woods at Impact: LOOK AT THAT LEFT FOOT!! IS IT BAD??? OMG IT'S STILL FLAT!!?! WOW THAT CAN'T BE GOOD FOR MY BACK, RIGHT??? SO. Any suggestions on how to get more right side in the swing so my footwork is better thus protecting my back etc etc?? I know it's Tiger, not the best example but he was the first guy I thought of because it's Tiger. Thanks!
  10. That is also very true. Different way to look at it but yeah it makes sense. Reaching a great level of golf (breaking 70) and then not doing it again for a long time is definitely frustrating and we all have to be crazy enough to fall in love with the process of working our way back to that high level.

  12. Our handicaps may be a little different but I had this happen yesterday to me. I am just having one of those streaks where I couldn't break 80 to save my life and my range sessions were horrible so I just packed up and left, swearing I was going to take a break from this stupid game... Needless to say, I went to the range today :) If you truly love the game you will find yourself thinking about it and wanting to go hit more balls, even if it might not be the best results. If you wake up tomorrow and think to yourself that you want to go play golf then by all means DO NOT throw in the towel. But if you wake up and are still frustrated and are still legitimately angry about it, maybe you should take a break for a while. Hope this helps.
  13. And it is a good thing BECAUSE it makes the downswing shallower? Aesthetically it is not pleasing to the eye so sometimes I want to get rid of it... but if it is good, I guess not?

  15. I hit every club in my bag well, except for my 3 and 4 iron. Most often I miss those two clubs off the toe, but I hit everything else - Driver, 3-wood, hybrid, etc - flush basically every time. I don't want to get another hybrid because I like the workability of a long iron and went I do hit it flush they're great. So. Good swing, good shots with everything except 3 and 4 irons which I am hitting off the toe more often than not. Thoughts? Explanations? Suggestions?
  16. Here is the difference... it's still a pretty new move but it is feeling better. Now that the takeaway has started to solidify a little we are working more on my downswing. I tend to get too narrow with too much lag so doing a pump drill to try and feel my hands staying wider from the top of the backswing. It is frustrating now but I know it will lead to more consistency down the road!
  17. Ok thanks!
  18. I think so? I mean... maybe just a touch more but my feet are definitely not square.
  19. Regardless of what anyone else has said about my swing on this thread, I have a question. Look at the following three pictures and the part I circled. How do I stop this?? If you compare my swing to almost any pro, they are rotating into the ball of their foot whereas I am kind of spinning and getting into my heel too quickly. For example, here is Adam Scott: I would post others but there is no point because they are literally all the same. It is not the end of the world but it is a never ending source of frustration in my march to better golf. My swing coach has told me it is not something we should really worry about right now but I am kind of obsessive. Quick notes: This is NOT a function of my set up, I have tried various different feelings in my set up and everything is the same result I used to be a baseball player (possible cause) If you would like to see actual video of the swing go look at this YouTube video.
  20. I went and worked with him last weekend: here is some more video for comparison. chspeed as you can see I am less laid off and more neutral in this swing. Here is some FO video for you guys to see what I am talking about with the wrist hinge. I have a wide swing arc but when my left arm is parallel to the ground I have about 140 degrees of angle between the shaft and arm, we want that closer to 90. You can see the problem it is causing at the top, at normal speed it just looks a little whippy and quick but if you guys rip the video and slow it down on your own you can see at the very top I am adding extra wrist cock and kind of losing control of the club head a little bit.
  21. We havent really messed much with the losition at the top of the swing so it is more a function of what we are working on. Over the winter when I was working on elbow spacing I started to get a bit across the line but once I was used to that feeling I started getting into a little more laid off spot, I found I could feel the club staying more in to out through the swing. In the first swing I make a slightly over the top move that we got rid of.
  22. Here is my swing the first time I worked with him in June last year: Pardon the follow through, I chunked it pretty badly :) And here is 9 months later, this March: Obviously there is still a bit to work on but the progress has been amazing. Currently I am working on getting more wrist hinge in my take away because I have getting too much lag from the top of my swing into the ball and have to time it perfectly to hit the shot I want. Not really a bad problem but the level of consistency I am striving for is a long way off still. 100 balls a day for the next month until the high school State tournament should help :) Previously we have worked on better posture and getting my body into a better position going into the downswing because I was clearing my hips too fast (I used to be a serious baseball player). We also worked on cleaning up the lines in my takeaway a bit and getting better elbow spacing at the top of my swing. It should get with the wrist hinge stuff I am working on as well.
  23. Working off my phone at the moment but I will try to get some video up of a change when I get home!
  24. I am working with Brian Mogg and have been for about a year now and I am curious to find out if anyone else on here has worked with him before? Here is a link to his website: http://www.moggacademy.com Before I met him I had worked with a few other people around the seattle area and never found someone I really trusted. Brian has seen the next level that I am trying to reach and knows what it takes to get there and I am already seeing huge benefits from working with him. In the last year I have dropped from a 3.5 handicap to a scratch golfer which has been a great process. Let me know your thoughts!
