  1. Hey guys, Thank you all for your advice! I have not seen a fitter yet, but I did try a number of different shafts to swing at. I will probably ask my pro when I go in for a lesson. Meanwhile, i went on to the field for the first time, and realized that milking and trying hard for extra distance doesnt mean as much as hitting the ball straight. With the unifllex i have--true temper, btw--i have eased my swig a little bit to make sure the swing was a bit more fluid, and even though i lost about 15-20 yards, my ball flight was dead straight. Also, i found out that my swing speed of mid 80's was with a graphite shaft, and i didnt know back then that the swing speed differs depending of the shaft material. With my uniflex, i swung at mid 70's. I am hoping to try out the light steel, like the speed step's or the rocketfuel 85g's. I am now debating whether i should just get the clubs re-shafted or just get a new set of clubs. Thanks again guys!
  2. Hey guys, I currently have the full club set bought from Costco--Callaway x24's in steel, uniflex shafts. I've started taking lessons and practices for little more than 3 months, and I was as frustrated I could be for last couple of days. I've been badly hooking my shots, and couldn't figure out why, until I read an article saying that using a shaft that's too soft for my swing speed will tend to hook the balls, whereas the opposite will tend to slice them. So I thought, might as well try stiff flex's; so I went to a local golf shop and tried out the Rocketbladez in a graphite, stiff shaft. The result: Not only did I see the ball fly much straighter, but also I gained about 20 yards! The yards, I thought, could be more because it's graphite, but the path of the ball made me want to get myself a new iron set. Sadly, they didn't have steel shaft, so I still can't decide which clubs to get. I would prefer to stick to steel shaft, but not sure which flex to buy. From the launch monitor, I was swinging at around mid 80's MPH, and the carry distance for 7 iron(with Rocketbladez) was, on average, about low 170 yards. I'm tempted to get the stiff flex, because I would like to give myself the benefit of a doubt of improving my swing; but if they are too stiff, I don't want to be returning the irons, especially when I plan to buy them online. Here are some of the iron sets that I have my eyes on right now. The Rocketbladez, Titleist AP1 712, Titleist AP2 710, or Callaway Razr XF, all in regular, steel shafts. Thank you for any inputs in advance! Any help would be greatly appreciated!
  3. It's been about a month since I filmed my swing. It seems that I've started having a "booty bumps" :S I did gain some more yards, but now keeping my left arm straight has become troublesome. My swing path has changed from slices to a LOT of draws/hooks. I wonder I might benefit from switching to stiff flex? I currently have uniflex. Thanks for any inputs!
  4. Golf is hard, but no doubt it is so much fun; especially when I have people giving me valuable tips! Thanks again!
  5. Thank you very much for the valuable tips and the words of encouragement! It seems so hard to memorize all the things that I have to/shouldn't do, but I guess that's why people say practice makes perfect! The thing about my back swing is that, though, I was watching a Youtube video and the guy said to straighten the back leg to be able to squat and swing. I don't know if that's something I should be learning right now, but it sure made my back swing a bit more comfortable. Anyways, thank you so much for letting me know about the head moving; I have completely forgotten about having the head still. Thanks again!
  6. Oh and by the way, the ball seems to fly really high--too high it seems; regardless of how I swing. Thanks!
  7. I've been Playing Golf for: 2 1/2 months My current handicap index or average score is: Unkown My typical ball flight is: Slice The shot I hate or the "miss" I'm trying to reduce/eliminate is: Slicing/topping Hey guys, I wanted to share my swing and hopefully get some tips. The outdoor swings are from couple of days ago; and the one from the basement is just today. I've been trying to shift my weight, but it surely isn't easy. Sorry for the crappy quality from the basement; I really need to figure something out to film myself. Thanks in advance! eo
  8. Thank you for your input, I really appreciate it. I was watching Youtube videos, and it indeed seems that by not being able to shift my weight properly, I am casting the iron. Now I should try to eliminate that. Thanks again!
  9. When I Google/Youtube for high ball trajectory, a lot of them talked about the strength of gripping. And after I've started playing golf, my right hand is always a little numb/stiff, which led me to believe my grip is too hard. And weight shift is just my thought; it just felt like I'm uppercutting the ball. O wow, thank you so much!
  10. Hey guys, I'm a newbie golfer. Just started practicing just about 2 months ago. I've been hitting the irons for the most part, going to an indoor driving range and taking lessons--2 so far. The thing I realized today when I went to the outdoor driving range was that the ball trajectory seemed way to high. Upon further research, it looked like I was gripping the iron too hard and/or I didn't have the proper weight shift. Now, I'm having trouble doing both and still have the ball fly straight. Either, I have to grip the iron quite hard, or not grip it as much and shift my weight onto my front leg. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I was told that after the backswing, the weight of my body should be shifted to the front leg, and have the hip turned, WHILE not having the arms flying forward to prevent slicing. This is nearly impossible for me to do. I think once I will be able to do it, the ball could fly better. Could you be so kind to getting this trick? I'm in my mid 20's, and I was only able to hit 120-130 yards with a 7 iron today. Thanks much in advance.
  11. Hey there! I'm totally new to the forum, and the game of golf. I've started taking lessons from the PGA Superstore in Paramus, NJ, and learning to swing in my basement in hopes to go on the green some day! Thanks!
