1. Got it at a pga superstore 6-7 weeks ago. The guy who sold it said he knew it would happen since I am a big guy. Thanks for telling me lol. ANyways he said he could give me a discount on some other clubs, but wont refund. He didnt want to send them in since at best, they would replace and it would happen again since they were cheap clubs. Said I needed proline clubs, whatever that means. Sounds pricy lol. The cool thing about it is I told a colleague of mine about what happened to my urons. Hes awesome and gave me his old cleveland ta5s, which are in great shape. I just took them in to get extended and regripped. wouldnt take anything for them, so I gave him some titleist pro v1s and nxts as a thank you. That was a really nice present from him.
2. Has anyone seen anything like this before? I bought a beginner Strata set 6 weeks ago. Got the clubs extended 1.5". I use my 7 and 6 iron the most, go to the range a couple of times a week. Hit on a combo of grass or turf depending on the day. Noticed this week that the shaft of the 7 iron was bent at the hosel. Thought that was weird, and then noticed the same problem on my 6. The more a club was used, the more pronounced the bend was. The picture above compares my 7 iron, which is my most used practice club, to my pitching wedge, which is the least used club in my bag. Will take the set to the store where I bought it. Hoping they will refund my money or replace the shafts on all my irons, as it looks like they will all eventually curve. Not sure what caused it though. Perhaps hitting so many balls off mats, cheap clubs, fast swing. Any thoughts?
3. I cant be of much help, since im a beginner too, but for a beginner, a 3 iron and 4 iron may not be necessary, particularly if you have a 4 hybrid amd other clubs to help you take the ball out further than your 5 iron. but I would definitely wait to hear what a more experienced golfer has to say
4. Thanks james. I will look at a thrift store. Would be awesome to find there What sucks about buying a cheap but decent set is getting them extended and regripped will cost almost as much as the set. Im goimg to try to spend no more than 10 for a 6 and 7 iron, then 11 each for grip an extend.
Oh, I see you are using touch screen. You are on your own in that case. I am clueless.
.
5. Thanks all. I am careful with my clubs, so I am getting the impression that is being caused during usage of clubs. The bend or curve is right at the point where the shaft meets the head, and its worse on clubs I use ore often. Will try the towel method as well as look for a $5 replacement. Thanks again.
6. Thanks TJ. I'm not sure why my posts wwon't space properly. No matter how many times I press enter on the screen.
7. "**** I have added 3 or 4 spaces between each of my paragraphs, but it still shows as a giant paragraph... any hints on how to properly space is appreciated. I would be happy to repost in a reader friendly format.... Thanks!!! Hi everyone, I am a beginner that's been practicing for about 5 to 6 weeks now. I bought a Strata 13 piece set to start out, added a few wedges, and have been practicing 2 to 4 times a week at the range (including 1 hour a week with an instructor). When I go to the range, primary emphasis is on my irons. As a result, I may use my 6 or 7 iron up to a hundred times in a day (I focus on those two more than my other clubs). After a range session this week, I looked at the head of my 7 iron. At the hosel, where the club head meets the shaft, there is a very noticeable bend or curve (probably about 10 or 15 degrees). I looked at my 6 iron, and it was noticeable too (just not as bad as my 7). I looked at my 8, and you could tell it was starting to bend, and then my 9 iron looked fine as far as I can tell (but I also use it less than any of my other irons). I do swing fast and hard, and given I am a beginner, I occassionally take too much of a divot. I feel like my clubs are relatively new (I bought them new 6 weeks ago), I am surprised to see this happening. Or would this be expected of a cheap starter set, especially one that gets used to hit hundreds of balls each weak, with a fast swinging beginner? Also - what do you think I should with my 7 iron? Continue to play with or without it, get it reshafted, pick up a cheap 7 iron somewhere else (like a $5 used demo club), or replace the set? I don't want to replace the set now, as I am still new and I feel like I need to get more usage from them to make it worth it. Although it looks like all my irons will end up bent, and I dont want to learn bad habits with messed up irons (I am committing enough time and money that I would hate to try to save on irons, but hurting my game in the long run). Thanks for the feedback.
8. Iacas - it has morphed into an entertaining and helpful thread (if not somewhat off the original topic). :) maybe it will die off and be bumped again in 2 years.
9. Not to be redundant, but why would I pay $20 for a no name shirt with unknown quality when I can get a shirt from a well known and respected manufacturer at the same price? Its the same reason that I wouldnt get a $15 walmart brand shirt when I can find a puma shirt for just a little higher, knowing that a puma shirt will last and be worth it. And yea, I would not pay regular price for a puma nike or UA golf shirt.
10. Yea it would be very difficult to compete with established names. I stick to big names that I can find at a discount. Good products with reputations at good prices. If you truly believe in what you are doing, go for it. But it wont be easy
11. I would never pay $125 for a golf shirt. Not sure that I would even pay $50 for one. I bought my puma shirts for $20. But someone must be paying $125 or they wouldnt still be in business. Either rich people or those who live beyond means.
12. Puma shirts fit great. Handles heat well too.
13. Ha, youre probably right. Just want to make sure we dont hold everyone up. I have a wicked slice, which might be fixed. We were working on more fundamentals with our coach. Have been practicing our swings without golf balls, so will test it out in the next day or so.
14. Thanks for the welcomes. Tide - it has been fun for us so far. Tak8ng lessons and going to the range, actually sharing a hobby, and so forth has been nice. Another thing for us to talk about. Are still a ways away from our first round.hopefully in a month or two we will be ready.
15. by the way, any suggestions on how to create spaces between paragraphs? I tried to add spaces to make it easier to read, but my post if just coming up as one large paragraph! Thanks!
16. I've been reading the forums on this site for the past several weeks. As a beginning golfer, the information has been invaluable. IMO with my limited knowledge of golf, this seems to be the best site out there for a beginner like myself. Me and my wife just took our first lesson last Friday and went to the range this week to practice. Before Friday, neither of us have had any experience with golf, other than perhaps visiting the range a few times as a kid. We really look forward to getting into the swing of things so to speak. It's something that we can enjoy as a hobby together, get outdoors, and eventually, play with friends and family. A little about ourselves We are around 30 years old, give or take a year for each of us. We both played sports as kids, and I played through college. We are looking forward to our new hobby, and our goal is to take a lesson a week (1 hour shared with by both of us), then spend 1 or 2 days at the driving range each week to work on what we learned. Right before we started, we picked out beginner club sets for each of us. They were both very reasonably priced, and after reading on forums, both seemed to be a good place for us to start. I am 6'6", so I got all my clubs extended by 1.5". The golf stores said I probably needed 2", but they recommended I not extend past 1.5". We both stay pretty fit. On days we are not practicing golf, we will likely be at the gym. We are close to Riverchase, so that's where we plan to take our lessons now and practice at the range. The staff has been nice to us, and the patrons seem friendly. Anyways, I have enjoyed this site, and thought it was time I registered.
