Better contact with 3w than Driver
GatorGolf replied to GatorGolf's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
I figured most of it would be in my head or over swinging so I'll keep some of the things mentioned above. I'm going out to play 9 holes tonight and will probably keep the driver in the bag but we will see how it goes. I'll post an update after. -
Better contact with 3w than Driver

Well the 3w was my dads, he purchased a new one, so I took it off his hands. I went to the PGA superstore here in Dallas to get fitted for a driver and the guy that fitted me said the stiff shaft would be good with me. My dad changes clubs like underwear and he has the same driver I do but with a regular flex shaft, So maybe I can try out that club and see how it goes. -

Driver is a RBZ Stage II with a stiff shaft and the 3W is a RBZ with a regular shaft. -
It will be interesting to see who Red Bull chooses to fill the seat of Mark Webber, maybe Kimi or Toro Rosso's Ricciardo? It's amazing how Ferrari has been in the back of the pack for the past few seasons, Force India is starting to put pressure on them during races. Like you said, if Vettel keeps winning like he has he will be a 4 time (in a row) champion.

I will play around with it at the range and see where I start to make better contact. Sometimes it's closer towards the middle of my stance. Maybe try moving it back some and see what happens?

I played some golf and Saturday and ended up keeping my driver in the bag and used my 3w off the tee. I was consistently making better contact and driving it further with the 3w. Every time I tried to use the driver I was pushing it right. I was playing with a buddy who is a great golfer and he couldn’t give me a reason on why I was doing that. Y’all have any ideas on what my problem might be?

I feel the same way! I feel it's best if I go to the putting green first so I can at least work on some putting before I start swinging some clubs. That is a long time at the range! I usually am only out there for about an hour or a little more.

TJ, have you ever played at Augusta Pines? My gf's family is really good friends with the family that owns it. I might try and play it next time i come down there.

What are these wall drill you speak of?

I do not have an alignment aid, I just put down a club sometimes. That might be a good $4 investment though. Thanks!

I agree with you. When I go out there I just get a bucket of 50-75 balls hit a couple with each club, like you said and move on until I feel like I’ve made solid contact and put the ball where I want with each club. I should probably cut down the time on the range and move to the practice green. I feel my weakest point on the green is visualizing where the break on the green is. I can get the feel down after a few putts but I don’t play the break right all that often. I’m generally at least 2 or 3 putting every time I get on the course and really hurts my score.

I'll keep that in mind. Thanks for the help!

I generally try and aim at a target and make sure my shoulders are where I want them to be and take into consideration the wind and my natural draw. When I swing my driver I just try to visualize a fairway in between 2 flags and go for that. My biggest problem comes when I get to a course I just crap out and lose everything I gained at the range. My mental game also breaks down and I get angry pretty quick when I miss hit. Something I have to personally deal with and remember it’s just a game and to let my clubs to the work.

I try and get to the range at least once a week and if I’m lucky maybe even two times. I have a high handicap and want to improve as much as possible. Is going to the range as much as I do going to be enough? I work on my irons and drivers more than chipping ( feel fairly confident in chipping ) and putting (probably my weakest aspect) , but not as much as I should. Aside from me knowing my weakest points is there anything I should change in my practice to make better improvements?

Closest I've come to breaking 90 is a 93 with a few mulligans...But I'll continue working on my game and hope to break it this season.

Yup, but don't forget Jeremy Hill's little run in with the law and Tryann Mathieu's ordeal. All colleges now a days are not without their faults, it's just who pays their players the best.

Haha funny you say that, she went to FSU. That's always a fun Saturday.

Arkansas gave me instate tuition and had to stay in the SEC, plus I was born in Florida and just raised as a Gator. I've never actually been inside the casino, just go to play golf. The course is always well kept, and the golf academy has some great people there to help you. Only downside is there is always a strong wind to contend with.

Any Formula 1 fans here? It's been a pretty good season so far. Vettel leading every race as usually, and some major tire failures especially at the British GP have really hurt some drivers. What has been some of yall's favorite moments from the season so far?

Hello everyone, Just wanted to introduce myself I live in north Dallas and have been playing golf for a little over a year now, I have always been around golf but I am finally really starting to get into it. I usually go and play up at Windstar with my dad and a few friends, a great golf course up there, but I will play around the Dallas area sometimes as well. Ready for football season to kick off as I am a university of Arkansas alumni but bleed blue and orange, go Gators!
