How do you not add up your score in your head? It automatically adds up in my head

Hi I played a tournament today. I shot 35-43 for a horrible 78.. I am usually a 2 handicap but today my swing fell apart on the back nine. I usually do worse on the back nine thinking what my round will be when I get to the clubhouse. I try not to keep score in my head but i always do .i just want to play a consistent 18 and end up with a. Good round. Any tips? Anything would be appreciated
