  2. Looking back at the video, I've also noticed that my head at impact remains about 3-4 inches behind where it was at address. Should it be staying in the exact same spot or is some lateral movement expected?
  3. You are absolutely right. I had never noticed, even after spending some time looking at the video (before you mentioned it). This is something I knew to be essential and assumed I was doing properly. After re-watching the video, there is clearly lots of rearward movement, maybe upwards of 6 inches. This part of my swing being so ingrained, I think it's going to be difficult to correct. This leads me to believe that this issue may be the major flaw that creates the inconsistency with topping balls and such. With hip sway, there is a lot of inconsistency with the swing arc bottom, correct? Meaning it can lead to topped balls and fat shots more easily? I will start practicing with flared feet and making a concerted effort to avoid the sway. I've looked up a few drills online and hopefully they will work for me. Thank you very much for pointing this out!! I'd appreciate any more feedback if anyone finds anything else... thanks!
  4. I've been Playing Golf for: 3 years, approx. 10-15 rounds per summer My current handicap index or average score is: high, mid-90's scores My typical ball flight is: all over the place, driver slices have been common The shot I hate or the "miss" I'm trying to reduce/eliminate is: inconsistency with longer clubs, toe hits Videos: Hi guys, I have started playing 3 summers ago and am having a terribly hard time off the tee. I have never been able to consistently feel confident off the tee. My major issue over the last few years has been a big nasty slice... I've been working on converting my swing into an in-to-out swing and the slice is less of an issue. I am simply getting a lot of mishits. I have started to take away the club at a very low and flat angle during the takeway. This has resulted in less big slices but many issues remain. A frequent mishit I've been getting with the driver is low and to the left shots that have a very pronounced front spin that just dives down and to the left. Weirdest ball flight. I don't know what causes that. I also have a very hard time hitting fairway woods and hybrids, I find myself topping them a lot so something tells me that I am coming out of the shot - however I don't see it in the videos... I would appreciate any points on any point of my swing - I twist my left leg quite a bit during the backswing - I know this is less popular these days but it feels natural to me. Could this be causing my issues with lifting up on impact?
  5. Thank you for the reply! Sorry took a few days to reply back... I do in fact have a RBZ Stage 2 non-tour version. It is in fact 3H 19 degree, sorry about that - had a brain fart and thought it was 17 degree for some reason... Where would you recommend I play the 3H in my stance? I typically play my mid irons dead-center in my stance and the longer irons about 1-2 balls forward. To correct the issue should I be playing the hybrid dead center?
  6. Thanks! I have always heard to approach a hybrid like an iron (steeper swing instead of a sweep). Will trying to hit it like a FW act as a bandaid for a bad swing? I'd rather fix the swing than band aid it! All of my clubs are stiff flex except my 3 and 5 wood (I haven't gotten around to upgrading those yet). Driver : Adams Speedline 9064LS (Aldila RIP Gamma Stiff) Irons : Ping G10 4-PW, UW (Stiff Steel AWT stock shaft) Hybrid : TaylorMade RBZ 2 17 deg 3H (Stiff Rocketfuel stock shaft non-tour version) Woods : Dunlop Reaction 3 and 5 wood (Regular) - and yes I know these suck but only lately have I been able to start hitting woods properly - will invest in a nice set soon
  7. Hi guys, This is my first season of seriously spending time playing golf. Started out the season a horrible mess with most clubs. I am now to the point where I can hit my driver with consistency (although I still have a fade/small slice I can't seem to eliminate). I'm hitting my irons solid and the longer irons have a bit of fade. I am hitting fairway woods with very solid contact but with a bit of slice as well. My real problem is my 3 hybrid - I bought it because everybody says it was the best thing since sliced bread. I can't hit it for poo. In the beginning I was constantly topping the ball - now I am getting solid contact but I am hitting it right off the face almost every time. The odd time that I do not push it, it starts off straight but slices badly to the right. I can't seem to hit it straight. The hybrid is a TaylorMade RBZ STage 2 17 degree with stock Rocketfuel Stiff shaft. I am trying to hit it like an iron (taking a small divot, etc.). Based on the laws of ball flight, I am hitting it with the clubface open - why only this club? I am planning on taking winter lessons on a golf simulator but still have some time to hit the range before the snow flies here... EDIT : I know I do have an outside in swing and am working on correcting that. I have started placing my right foot back a few inches away from the target line. It has helped reducing the severity of my slice big time - but still not straight...
  8. So sorry - thanks for letting me know. It should now work!
  9. Just for clarification : I am only slicing my driver and hybrid (TaylorMade RBZ-2 3H 17 degree stiff), for whatever reason.
  10. I've been Playing Golf for: 1 season (approx. 10 rounds under my belt) My current handicap index or average score is: Average score is 100 My typical ball flight is: Between fade and push slice The shot I hate or the "miss" I'm trying to reduce/eliminate is: Push slice and straight slice Videos: I've been struggling with a slice that is getting better with time. Most of my shots have a slice to them - I am losing too many strokes to having balls start out fine and then slice high and into the woods (or push slice all together). Out of 18 holes, I will have 5-6 drives that are not playable. It is frustrating. I have been starting to make a conscious effort of lagging the clubhead and releasing at the very last second before impact. That has helped to avoid push slices - sometimes I even do a slight pull that slices back in to end up in the middle of the fairway - only problem is that I lose distance on those shots. Some drives are straight as an arrow but most have some form of fade or slice. In the video I notice that my left leg is turning in quite a bit and my left heel is coming off the ground aggressively (I am a baseball player!). Help! Driver : Adams Speedline 9064LS with Aldila RIP Gamma Shaft in Stiff My clubhead speed once warmed up ranges from 102 to 109 MPH. On flat terrain a good drive for me is 285 yards total but most often a mishit with some sidespin will yield a 225-245 total distance :(
  11. Good to know!
  12. I took a client out last night for 9 holes - my first time playing since I felt like I made a breakthrough with my driver. I played my best 9 holes ever (which still isn't much but as a beginner it feels amazing)! The thing I found that allowed me to stop slicing is what I think most people call the "release". Here is how I can best explain what I'm doing : I am consciously accelerating/releasing my hands just prior to impact. I wouldn't say that I am flipping my wrists or anything that drastic, but it does require a conscious effort - so far it has been very consistent. It's almost as if I'm lagging the clubhead behind and at the very last moment I'm allowing it to accelerate and swing through. Does that sound right? Am I doing something that is simply a band-aid for a bad swing or is that how the "release" should feel? With this new "breakthrough" in my golf swing, I find that I am hitting balls off the tee much more consistently and I seem to be getting way fewer mishits. I am not slicing my other clubs (except for maybe a slight fade on my RBZ Stage 2 3 hybrid) and am getting consistent and crisp contact on all my irons without doing this conscious release. I assume I should be doing this with all clubs? I know this is off the original topic, but since the discussion is happening I thought I'd ask! Thanks :)
  13. Thanks Chris - very helpful! Great read :) And yes, it was in fact one with overhead sensors...
  14. Thanks so much guys - I think I have found the underlying issue. I was hearing everyone talk about "release the clubhead". I thought I was, but today on the range I tried making a conscious effort of releasing my wrists at impact and like magic I'm hitting straight at my target now. Not a single slice from the moment I started making that release effort. I hit 3/4 of the bucket with this technique and was amazed. Been struggling with this all summer and it's hard to believe I found the solution. I think I cried a little at the range... lol. Hopefully I can replicate the same success at my next range session. I also noticed a noticeable increase in distance when making the conscious effort of releasing the clubhead immediately before impact. Thanks so much for bearing with me! Still confused as to why the simulator was screwing with my psyche, though. That one remains unexplained for the moment. Jeff
  15. I have tried it at standard and +1 setting - which means +1 degree loft and 1 degree closed clubface. I did notice a small difference but definitely not enough to fix the slice - lol!
