Ok, probably best to make sure my equipment at least gives me the best chance at getting better at this crazy game. Should I look for any specifics in the grips? Is there a difference between the cheaper and more expensive ones? Thanks for the help, I am totally new to the whole golf equipment thing since I have only used a starter box set up till this point.

That's kinda what I though. Thanks for the info. I probably will regrip them someday. I'm just not that great yet so the grip doesn't really bother or affect me much. Thanks for the advice tho

Hit them all at the store before I bought and went with the 2 callaways over 1 vokey. Both clubs look to be in good shape. Shafts are straight with no rust and 1 of them still has a pretty good grip.
-
So I have the option to buy either 1 vokey 54-11 wedge for 20 bucks in pretty good condition. Or 2 callaway (I believed vintage forged) wedges 54 -12 and 58 -10 for 15 bucks each, can't tell if they are rusty or just "vintage". Does it matter? Not completely sure about the bounce but I think any of them would be better than my current and only wedge which is 60* from Kmart. What do you guys think I should go with?

I have been looking at those for a while. I have a set of really old blades I'm going to try hitting this season before I purchase some. But these would probably my choice given that they are extremely cheap for a forged club. I hope some people on here have played them and have something to say about them.

Thanks for the replies guys. Titleist it is!

This is one of the reasons I started looking for some old blade irons. (To learn how to better contact the ball)
-
They look mint to me. Obviously they have been used, but it doesn't look like very much. Faces have now wear and the grips don't even have wear. Shafts look fine to me too. They are in better shape than my Trend clubs. They look great at address!

Should I use the iron (5-PW) / hybrid (3-4) set that came with my cheap box set of Trend golf clubs for under $200 I got about 8-10 years. I don't/can't hit the hybrids. Or should I use a set of perfect condition Titleist Lite 100 irons(3-9) that first came out in 1979. Which do you guys think I should use? Modern and cheap or old from quality brand? Here is a site with some info about the Titleist Lite 100 http://www.titleist.com/golf-clubs/irons/Lite-100.aspx I can't find any info on the Trend set.
-
Went with the tour. Hopefully it will keep by launch angle down a bit.
-
Just found a 3-9 set of these at Savers for 17 bucks and since they said Titleist on them I figured I would buy em and at the very least probably be able to sell them for $50 on ebay. Thinking about trying them for a couple of rounds next spring. They seem to be an early attempt at cavity backs but would probably still classify as blades by today's standards. So anyway, does anyone still game these?

Anyone else find it easier to hit blades?
dwade247 replied to dwade247's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I think this is how I was feeling when I hit the blades. Blades are so simple and when I look at the club head it just says to me, "go get that dang ball and smack it!" -
Thanks for responses. Definitely going with the tour shaft
-
Thank you. Think I will go with the tour shaft then.

What do you guys think about the two different stock shafts that ping offers with the G20? Some fitters that have casually watched me swing and suggested a regular while some others suggested a stiff flex, but I feel regular is best for me. My swing speed is around 95-100 and my carry is about 220-230. I typically launch the ball high and plan to get a 9.5* for loft. What do you guys think would be the best shaft for my game? How do weight and torque affect things? The table below is from the ping website. SHAFT FLEX TORQUE WEIGHT LAUNCH ANGLE TFC 169D Ladies 6.3° 45g High Soft Regular 5.2° 51g Mid High Regular 5.2° 52g Mid High Stiff 4.9° 58g Mid X-Stiff 4.1° 62g Low TFC 169D TOUR Regular 4.6° 59g Mid Stiff 3.9° 63g Low Mid X-Stiff 3.7° 67g Low

Yes I did, knew someone was going to point this out. I pretty much agree with everyone else. The GI irons are probably easier to hit but I personally feel they are very clunky. However I have only hit cheap clubs. Are there any GI irons out there that have smaller heads with thinner soles? -
So I was just messing around hitting golf balls and I noticed some old "Jack Nicholas" blades. I grabbed a couple of them along with some offbrand (I think acuity) cavity backs. The blades felt so much better. They were nice and light and didn't have a huge clumsy head on em. Has anyone else (especially high handicappers) found it easier to hit blades?

I don't see it going on sale anytime soon. All the stores say that Ping doesn't do any promotional sales and the G15 is still $180 in the stores that still have it. I think $200 is probably the best I will find until till the G30 or whatever comes out. But I have watched that video and it definitely made an impact on my decision. Has anyone been fit at golf galaxy, dicks, or a pga superstore? It's free in these places if you buy the club there. Or does anyone have other suggestions?
-
What G20 shaft do you guys like better, the tour or other. I am stuck somewhere between a regular flex and a stiff flex in the non-tour shaft so I was kind of thinking the tour regular would be a good fit. I tend to launch the ball quite high and have a swing speed between 95-100.
-
Would you guys buy a new g20 with a descent fitting for $200 or a used one in "very good" condition from callaywaypreowned that I think would work good for me?
-
Kind of surprised by all the G20 recommendations. But sounds good, it is a Christmas gift so why not get the new one!
-
I definitely plan on keeping either club, but especially the G20 for as many years as possible. I never buy clubs. This would be the first name brand club I will have ever purchased or owned.
-
So I have hit both of these clubs. I liked the G20 better than any other new driver I have tried, which was a lot. However the pga superstore by me has a 10.5* G10 with some japanese R flex shaft for only $40 while a new G20 is $200. The loft and shaft flex are right for me on the G10 and today I hit them side by side and they were pretty similar. I had probably 5-10 more yards with the G20 but both were fairly straight, actually found myself drawing the G10 a bit and fading the G20 but both were reasonable distances from center. Since I didn't notice a huge difference hitting them side by side and I know I have some work to do on my swing, which club would you guys recommend? I'm kind of thinking about waiting in the new driver till my swing is better and more consistent so I can get a better fit for whatever G driver I like when I'm ready for a new one. Are old G10s still usable and will they be for a couple more years? Am I missing anything revolutionary that the G20 has that the G10 doesn't? Thanks for any thoughts.
