I found a couple drills on YouTube that I think I am going to try. Hopefully be able to get to the range tomorrow. I know that not lifting my head would be the easy solution...thanks haha. -

I've been working on this exact thing, problem is that when I do, I lift my head and top the ball haha. Guess it is just a mix of getting the club around after impact while keeping that head still. I don't think my alignment or set up is the problem. I play the ball off the inside of my front heel, forward in my stance. Thanks though! -

So I've hit that dreaded 110-115 mark that is so hard for most players to overcome and break 100. I am on month 3 of golfing now. I consistently shoot horrible front 9s (around 59-65) and "decent" back 9s (yesterday was a 44). One of my biggest issues is I am pushing my shots right. Particularly with my driver off the tee and my long hybrids every once in a while. I have had a couple lessons and my instructor said that my lower body is not rotating enough at impact. That's all fine and dandy, but then he really doesn't offer much help in drills or technique change...He just kind of says "rotate your right hip more." I plan on finding a new teacher... Anyways, I have now been focusing on rotating more, the biggest problem I find is that when I go for a big hip rotation, I end up lifting my head and topping the ball...When I focusing on rotating it seems to make me want to hurry my follow through up for some reason. Anyone else struggle with the block/push shot? Anyone know any drills to get the lower hips to move through the swing? When I do line up the hips right at impact, it is money. Straight down the fairway. Otherwise, it is straight into the other fairway haha. -
Lessons: Golftec or the Local Courses?

There are about 6 local courses here that all have PGA teachers. All of my friends are mainly self taught and all shoot in the mid 80s. My two friends that have had lessons all went to Golftec. Ironically enough, they shoot higher than my self taught friends...go figure. This is exactly what I am afraid of moving forward with teaching myself. I fear I will make some big mistakes that will really slow down my progress moving forward. -
Hey Everyone! So as some of you know, I am newbie golfer. I am 26, so I kind of got into the game late but am happy with how fast my game has progressed. Two months ago I was shooting honest 170s and now I am in the honest low 120s. My goal for my first year is to break 100. I feel really good with my iron play and putting, but my chipping and getting off the tee is horrendous. I have a straight right push that is just ridiculous when teed up. I can get somewhat straight with my 3 wood, but my driver? Forget it. My driver and 3 wood also don't "feel right" when I swing it, so I would like to get a driver fitting to see what flex I should be using. I would also like to take my game to the next level, and I am sure getting lessons would make everything easier. I would rather spend my money on the course and be outside, but I want to break 100 even more haha. I have checked out Golftec and they are, what I consider, really expensive. Like over $1,000 for there most basic lessons package which is about a month of lessons, once every other week. If I want to get in depth, then I am looking closer to $2,000! On the other hand, a few local courses offer private one on one lessons from 40-50 bucks a half hour... So what are your opinions? In the long run, is Golftec the better answer? Or should I just spend a couple hundred bucks at a local course? The other issue I have is time, and the local course lessons would be a lot better for me because I work a crazy schedule.

Thanks for the replies guys! Well it looks like the hybrid is something I will be buying soon. Now I just have to decide between the 4 or 3! I am leaning more towards the 3 I believe. -

My longest iron is currently my 5. I don't hit my 3 iron "bad," I just really slow down my swing for some reason...so I don't hit it much further than my 5 iron. I play my wedges near my rear foot and my long irons towards the front. I have tried playing my 3 wood in the same spot as my long irons, and it is usually catastrophic haha. I have had the best luck when I hit it near the front and sweep the ground. When I connect just right, it does go forever. But I am no where near consistent with it like I am with my irons...and confidence is a huge huge HUGE part of playing on the course I am quickly finding out... -

I had two swing lesson sessions with a PGA accredited teacher, but no I am not currently taking lessons. Just playing golf and enjoying the game. I don't worry too much about the score, I just use it as a gauge in which to see how well my game is developing. With that being said, one of my goals is to break 100 by summer's end. This is exactly the kind of gap and distance I am trying to fill! I don't plan on getting rid of my 3 wood. I still use it off the tee on almost every hole and will develop it. I am just looking for something that I can use now on the course to fill my gap. Also, being new, I find myself in the rough enough times where hitting a 3 wood isn't practical anyways, and I know the added loft of a hybrid would probably help me out a lot. I plan on getting a 4 hybrid I would guess and ditching the 3 iron. When I swing my irons, I take divots and have a very downward trajectory overall. When I swing my 3 wood, I try more to sweep the ground and keep the ball towards my front foot. Any time I use what I would call my "iron swing" on a 3 wood, I end up hitting a lot more ground than I do ball... -
So I have been golfing for a little over 2 months now. When I first started out, I was atrocious. I shot in the 170s and couldn't make it in the fairway to save my life. Recently I just shot my best game at 125. I am finally starting to hit the ball off a tee with a little confidence, all be it I have a pretty horrible tendency to push straight right...I still haven't had a club fitting for shaft flex or anything, but being this new I don't think that I need to worry about that yet... The push issues are mainly with my driver, and with my 3 wood I hit it much straighter off the tee. I can usually get it around 200-220 with roll off the tee, which is fine for shorter holes, but once I am on the fairway on a long par 4 or par 5, I really struggle hitting a decent shot with my 3 wood or 5 wood off the grass I am finding. So I guess my question is, should I start looking at a hybrid for these situations? Right now if it is a longer hole, I just go at it with one of my woods and hope for a clean shot, or take the shorter shot with my 5 iron. I have more confidence with my 5 iron than I do any of my woods right now, but I know that if I connect clean with a wood, I can get to the green in 1 less shot usually. So, in short, should I just keep practicing with my 3w/5w and get more comfortable with it off the deck, or should I be looking at hybrids for once I am off the tee box? If hybrids are something to look into, any suggestions on some good beginner clubs I should be looking out for?

Thanks for the link! Since I have that natural C-shape in my upper back from the injury, I pretty much look exactly like that posture wise haha. I physically can't straighten the tip top section from the top of my shoulder blades to my neck...so if that thread is correct, I have good posture. I guess when I said "99%" straight, I was referring to the section from the lower center of my shoulder blades to the base of my rear. I would like to mention I have absolutely no lower back pain. All the pain is under that left shoulder blade and sometimes carries over a little to my left side.

Hey All! So I am a really green golfer...like only been swinging a club for 2 months now. I am 27 and in the relatively good shape. 6'1" 190 pounds. Right handed golfer. I have a permanent "C" shape in my upper spine from a accident as a child, however I make it 99% straight on my golf swing. I have had a couple lessons and the instructor said I have good hip/shoulder rotation and range of motion. I started golfing as something to do just for fun with my friends...but I am a little bit competitive (especially with myself) and I am now hooked. Bad. Like it is all I want to do and think about 2 months ago, I was at the driving range and hitting my second bucket of balls...I know, probably too much too soon, and I felt fine. Later that evening I started to have a dull pain under my left shoulder blade, apart of the Dorssi I would assume. I went to bed and the next morning it was really stiff...I rested it for a week and it became better. After that week, I went on a work golf trip and BLAM-O! I over-swung bad, casting, everything you're not supposed to do. Sharp pain in the exact same spot and that lasted 2 weeks straight. My right side close to the ribs were very tender as well. I rested it for 3 weeks, and it has been feeling fine. I worked on some little chipping a couple days ago, no pain. I practice swung my PW with no problems. Took a couple swings with my 3 wood and if stretched my back out a bit and felt amazing. Next morning, that same spot, just under my left shoulder blade, was a little tight. Not pain, just tight. I am assuming it is a muscle pull that is healing, but light swinging actually makes it feel better. I have been doing stretches and using a golf ball on the floor to work out the tightness as well. So I guess my question is, are these normal pains that every beginner golfer goes through? I haven't used my back muscles since probably high-school, so obviously I am using muscles that aren't used to operating in such a twisting motion. Well light working out and stretching condition these muscles? Or am I hurting myself and just need to lay off golf for while? I feel like if I don't do a little bit that the muscles will never become conditioned to the movements... Sorry for the long winded post...thanks if you've read it this far!

Hello All. Been lurking for about a month and have decided to join up. Super green golfer...like only been golfing for maybe 2 months now. The sport never appealed to me, but as I have grown up and more and more of my friends started getting into it, I have been sucked in. And I mean sucked in. One of the most addicting sports I have ever gotten involved in! I look forward to spending some time on here, picking your brains, and having some good convos!
