Update: took a lesson with a retired local club pro over the weekend. Biggest problems he pointed out was hinging early (as some of you pointed out) and not keeping my wrist "strong". Was rolling my wrist which was opening the club face. Other major problem was not swinging around my body from the bottom of my down swing to finish. I was extending my arms/body toward the target after contact instead of finished around my body with a "toe up" sequence in the follow through. (I have always done this somewhat but have been able to compensate in other areas - this will take some time to change). Thanks again for everyone's input.

Thanks for everyone's input and suggestions

To add further, what do you mean by hinge early? If I'm understanding what you are saying, I think I hinge early to try and not have too long of a swing...........

Great tips Gil. I don't plan on quitting, but I have never been so frustrated in my life :)........when do you know you have reached to top of your back swing? Once you've turned your shoulders as far as possible, do your arms continue back? What cues your down swing? Another swing thought I have (which is surely wrong) is that if I don't shift forward on the downswing, I cannot trap the ball at impact. If I try and correct this, I lose all power and hit it fat most of the time. Thanks again for your input.

Thanks SS. When I try this while also setting up closer to the ball, I have a severe power drain somewhere. The only way I seem to be able to generate power is to move farther away from the ball which promotes the casting and becoming "separated". What I think I am trying to say, is when I try and keep my hands closer to my body at setup and on my downswing I have no point of reference/confidence to strike the ball solidly with power etc..........

Do I not bend my wrists at all? If I don't bend them wouldn't that promote even more pronounced casting?

Gill, thanks for the pointers. I've actually gotten worse since I posted my swing. I have lost all confidence, feel, tempo, power, etc.....don't even really know what my natural swing is at this point. I have shelved the clubs for the past 2 weeks. I do have a lesson scheduled this Sunday with a retired local pro. I'm hoping he can get me back on the right path. Never thought I would be playing as bad as I was when I first picked up s club at 14 years old. I'm 42 now....most frustrating thing ever!

Maybe I'm just looking at it all wrong.....losing my swing actually may be the best thing that could have happened!

Glad you found your swing again!

Was finally able to hit a few shots into the net tonight with mixed results. I seemed to be able to eliminate pushing my hips back during my back swing but was sliding my hips toward the target and getting quick on the down swing. Did make some better and sometimes great contact when I would focus on making a big hip turn in place and then focused on pulling my left hip/leg straight back. This seemed to keep me from sliding.....will take a lot of practice.

Thanks B...what are some key thought/moves to get the club shaft forward at impact? In my mind at least, when I try to turn in place, I feel like I have to lean forward to generate power and hit down on the ball. Which seems to be causing my problems....

Very seldom a solid strike with the ball

Yes I am....feels like a swiping contact with the ball low on the face of the club.

Thanks......I did post my swing on the member swing forum if you want to check it out.

Posted my swing on the members swing thread........fire away.

I have totally lost my swing. It has became so bad that I am not sure what my natural swing is. Any guidance is greatly appreciated. I'm normally an 85-94 type player. Sometimes lower, sometimes higher. I played 3 times last week in Phoenix and never came close to breaking 100. Final round was a 112 and was lucky to shoot that. Only made good contact with the ball maybe 5 times in three rounds. If I did make contact it resulted in a very week push. If I swing very slow I can make solid contact with very little distance. If I try to increase my swing speed, I seem to get "quick" and it results in a week fade. Very frustrating. When my swing goes bad, it goes very bad. Have been battling this the last 5-7 years. Seems to be happening more frequently. No consistency whatsoever. Just hit an all time low last week. I've been Playing Golf for: 28 years My current handicap index or average score is: 16-18 My typical ball flight is: fade The shot I hate or the "miss" I'm trying to reduce/eliminate is: week push Videos:

Ok.....I'll try and film it tomorrow....problem is I have a couple different swings. I can swing more compact/short - but it does not feel natural to me. Seem to get way too tense. I can also swing longer and looser which is more natural to me. Not sure which way to go. Have played ok with both swings. Should I film both?

Any advice anyone can give me is greatly appreciated. I have totally lost my swing. It's so bad, I don't even know what my natural swing is anymore. I have taken lessons in the past with not much success. Should have never taken lessons. Was much better just playing by natural feel. I'm an 80s low 90s golfer (or was). Was in Phoenix last week, played 3 rounds and never broke 100. Shot 112 on my last round and was lucky to shoot that. Did not make solid contact more than 5 times in 3 rounds. If I swing super slow I can make decent contact but get no distance. If I try to swing harder I just hit week fades with no distance. Seem to get way too "quick" . Don't mean to ramble on but I am at my wits end.

New Iron/Fitting Suggestions
flyfish13 replied to flyfish13's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Thanks Nemicu. I will definitely ask around. Don't want to go the superstore route again. -
New to the board as I am looking for good advice. I want to purchase new irons. I am 42 years old and grew up hitting blade/small head type irons and have always made good contact with the ball. I am an 80-90 golfer and am wanting to improve my game. About 12-15 years ago I purchased over-sized irons (Taylor Made) based on the recommendation of the pro shop. Looking back, I think it was a big mistake as my game and been very up and down the past 10 years and have seemed to have lost swing focus and all feel with the club. I currently hit Callaway X-22 irons w/Memphis 10 shafts - these were recommended to me by the traveling Callaway Golf Fitting truck about 4 years ago. My swing speed is 100 mph. Have a local Golfsmith and Golf Galaxy but not sure how good they are at fitting me to what I need - have not been overly impressed in the past. Any suggestions/direction is greatly appreciated.
