  1. It seems as if everyone has forgotten the point of this thread and jumped on the same train everyone else has, so I suggest we drop the topic. I realize it might be easy to misinterpret my "arguing" as being displeased with the answers I am receiving, but this is far from the case. It's in my nature to defend and do what I can to have myself be right. Say what you want about that trait, but that is who I am, I am not perfect. Truth be told I don't necessarily sit down with popcorn in one hand to read the comments of people telling me about how I probably won't live up to my dreams, but that doesn't mean I don't appreciate them. There are many tips I have taken from this thread that I have already put into practice. I am a perfectionist, and I try to make things as perfect as possible in my mind, the fall back being it is generally in the short term. This means that I tried to make many quick fixes in this thread that were not ultimately good decisions. I did actually mean 2 months, because I do believe it, but there's some part of me that wanted to impress you people for whatever reason. Why might I be trying to impress or please random strangers on the internet? No one will probably ever know, it's most likely one of my more dislikable qualities, but none of this changes my appreciation for the comments I have received. Was I discontent with shorty's previous comments, or possibly others? Yes, I think I made that quite clear, but I also pointed out that it was not his message that put me off, it was the method he chose to deliver it. Despite this, I am completely over it, I'm only trying to make a point, which is that I have not disliked any comment made here. I am a perfectionist, people pleasing, strongly opinionated, stubborn kid, and I believe that makes it very easy to misconstrue anything I say in a written format. As said at the beginning of this paragraph, I believe it would be in everybody's best interest to leave this thread alone, as it has turned into conversation that isn't really staying true to the topic, and doesn't necessarily benefit me, which was the point of this thread in the first place. Thank you everyone, I hope what I just said doesn't just make things worse in terms of peoples view on the situation, I wish you the best.
  2. I never asked people to lie to me. I believe everything I'm saying is being mis-constrewed. Everyone keeps acting like I want them to tell me everything is going to be fine and I'll be rich and famous. Where did you get that notion from?
  3. Wow, seems like everything that comes out of my mouth is just stupid, isn't it?
  4. A book written by Pia Nilsson and Lynn Marriot (Ex-coaches of Annika), called "Every Shot Must Have A Purpose", includes foreword by Annika herself. It is there that she describes in her own words that tremendous commitment. Look the book up, it's actually really great, it explains the idea of VISION54 and GOLF54. I'm sure you've heard of the names if your knowledgable in coaching, they are quite well known.
  5. Oh shoot, did I say 2 months? I'm really tired right now, I meant 2 years, sorry guys. My brain is a little hit and miss haha
  6. I'm sorry, I didn't try to be rude. but really, I'll probably start my golf vlog soon, and then you really can watch me ;D. I truly believe I can do it.
  7. I highly disagree with this persons statements and don't believe you should be basing your beliefs on a single article. The ideas this article is portraying is quite pessimistic and I would actually be interested in listening to him explain to me how he got to his conclusion, outside of the article. The reason he gives for not practicing something more, such as 20-foot putts, is that it would be good enough without any more practice. This is a direct quote from the article - " If you're making half of your six footers (on bumpier, slower greens than those seen on the PGA Tour), that's all you need to play golf on the PGA Tour, so time spent practicing 20 footers ( which are made about 14% on the PGA Tour , so you should expect to make about one in ten) is time better spent doing something else." Why stop at being good enough to be on the PGA Tour? Why not the best in the world? Annika Sorenstam once dedicated 6 weeks of full days practice to just putting, simply because she wanted to be the best at it. When Tiger Woods was a teenager his coach would find him putting in the morning when he came in to work, and at the end of his 8 hour shift, Tiger was still putting. I don't like to go by the belief that if it's good enough, there are better things I could be doing. If when I'm practicing I know that I am improving myself in any aspect of the game of golf, that's time worth spending. He also mentions at the top about how he's charted many PGA players' training habits, but this doesn't apply to the high handicapper at all. PGA professionals are at a level that requires a whole different type of practice. Sure, Tiger only practices putting 1-2 hours a day now , but he didn't used to. I answered this earlier, but how much do you think Tiger Woods practiced putting 15-20 years ago? I can almost guarantee you it was astronomically different. PGA professionals spend small amounts of time on things because they only need to make small adjustments on many things, but others need to spend tremendous amounts of practice on anything and everything. He also talks about how you could be spending your time not putting yourself in the position of a 20 foot putt, instead of practicing 20 footers, but this just sets you up for disappointment. As anyone who plays the game of golf knows, something is wrong is always bound to happen no matter what. So when that 20 foot putt happens to come along because you did mess up, why gamble on wether that putt is going to be the 1 out of 10 that you make? I'm sorry if my message seems angry, I just don't believe you should be telling people to just settle with OK, why not be the best you possibly can be?
  8. It is quite a lot, but I think I could be shooting under par in the next 2 months. I'm regularly shooting bogey's on holes simply because of my short game. If I'm able to improve on my putting and my chipping accuracy, I definitely think I could do it. I've been practicing putting for about 5 hours every day.
  9. Wow, I was really off, I don't know where I got a 40 handicap from but my scoring average is about 100.
  10. I've been Playing Golf for: About 4-5 years. Although I have been playing for a while, I would only participate in one or two camps and play maybe a round or two of golf in a whole season. Now, I have found a passion for golf and am playing 2 - 3 hours a day with a couple rounds a week. My current handicap index or average score is: AVG. Score: 110 My typical ball flight is: I can hit the ball straight when I make sure to "turn my wrists" and use a new grip I am learning. Other times I would slice the ball but recently I have drawn/hooked the ball numerous times on the course. I'm not sure why I am drawing the ball as it is very new thing to me. I can't help but think there's something better I could be doing with my swing rather than having to mentally think about turning my wrists each time I each, I consequently if I don't then I slice the ball. This seems quite counter-intuitive to what I've read, as many say you shouldn't be thinking at all during your swing. The shot I hate or the "miss" I'm trying to reduce/eliminate is: Pretty much anything that isn't straight, I'd like to work on other shots later on, first I want to be able to hit the ball straight consistently. Let me know if I need to be more specific. Videos: Sorry, I thought I had a video but I don't and don't know how to delete the thread
  11. Agreed. I have no excuses. Thank you for everyone's input
  12. Well, all I have to say is where do I find an 8 hour golf training plan? I would be more than happy to train that much in a day, although I do have school, I have a week of spring break ahead of me so I'm all for it.
  13. 2 things I want to clear up, entirely calm though, I'm not calling anyone out. One thing is that I was not mad at anyone or discouraged by them telling me my odds of making it, as some other people have said it should do, it just made me want to go out and practice more. The reason I was mad at Shorty was because of his delivery of the information. I'm sure he could have delivered the same kind of information in a more kind hearted manner. The second thing is that I believe I'm shoot 40 for a reason. When I say I've been playing for fun, I mean I'd probably do a one week camp and one round of golf in a whole season. In other words, I'm pretty much just starting to play golf for real. I've been told I have a good swing, in fact I've noticed it's quite similar to Na Yeon Choi's swing (Not to toot my own horn or anything, I just noticed that a lot of the motions in her swing are similar to the ones I make in my own). If my short amount of experience still convinces some of you I don't have the chops for the PGA, I get it, but that doesn't make me love the game golf any less . I will still pursue the game and excel as far as I can. Also, thank you boogie, I try to carry myself well. You never know the kind of connections you might make.
  14. I didn't say they were holding him back, that's what I was wondering
  15. Trust me, I know, but I can definitely do better. It's more my lack of experience and my size. I'm quite a small kid for my age so it's hard for me to hit the ball far. Also, where my shots go are inconsistent. I spray a lot but demonstrate I have the ability to hit amazing shots, I just need to work on that with my coach. Also, something I just need to practice more is short game. I hope me saying I have a 40 handicap hasn't demolished all hopes of me being able to be good. Do you have any suggestions on my predicament with tournaments? Thanks!
  16. Thank you for the further input. I can agree that I will get something out of this even if I don't make the tour. Do you guys have any suggestions for if I did start a vlog or a place where people would be happy to give me tips? I'm sure sure about the kind of content I would include in them. Maybe in most I can talk about different drills that I work on that are given to me by my coach. I would have to figure a way I could fill 5 - 10 minutes of content each day. If I could, I think I would be good for me as it would keep me more committed. One other thing I would like to ask is when you guys think I should start doing tournaments. I'm definitely not ready to play them just yet as I currently play 40 over par (I know, I have a long way to go xD). Although entry fees are expensive (most are $150 - $200 CAD), I feel like they would be good practice at the same time. So when is the best time to start spending that money in order to start getting that experience and used to the pressure? Thanks guys
  17. Whelp, thank you everyone, I will definitely be going for it. Who knows, I might start up a little vlog on youtube tracking my progress in order to keep me committed. I don't know if it sounds stupid or not. Oh well, I'll let you guys know if any of you care. Thank you again, have a great day.
  18. That is my point. Your "point of the post" is very negative and not appreciative of encouraging me. Instead you decided to take the route that many other people do and tell me I will never reach my dream of excelling in golf. You essentially told me I should never attempt to play golf professionally as I may as well win the lottery. Cold.
  19. Sorry, I just want to make something clear. That last statement was in reply to Shorty. Thank you to the rest of you for the advice. I guess I'm not one to judge my own ability, but I believe I have the "natural ability or something" to play great golf. My question was more like if there were two me's, and one started playing golf 5 years before the other, latter have less of a chance of making the PGA. That's all, thank you again everyone!
  20. 0.0 Eeeeek, I almost feel bad. It seems like I've asked such a stupid question, I thought there might be an explanation
  21. I am appalled by your insensitivity and haste to judge me without even considering the fact that I didn't mention money once within everything I said. The reason I am asking "random strangers" is because this seemed like a very helpful and knowledgable community, although it doesn't seem like you are upholding that reputation. I have a passion for the game of golf and want to spend my life playing it, that is why I am asking this. I want to have the chance to play golf for a living, which means yes, I want to make money from it. But this is only so that I can survive all while doing my favourite thing in the world for the rest of my life. Perhaps you should try not being so stuck up, and the last time I checked, most people don't enjoy beating down the dreams of a 14 year old boy. Have a nice day.
  22. Don't tell me because he is sponsored by them. I realize that, I'm just a little puzzled as to why he would use only Nike clubs. It seems like he's sacrificing his performance just to please his sponsorship. Don't get me wrong, I love the new Nike clubs, in fact I'm due for a new set and I'll be getting the vapor driver, irons and woods. But, I'll be going with something like a vokey or an rtx 588 for my wedge, not nike. So does it not really matter that all his clubs are Nike or his he sacrificing his game because of it? And if he is sacrificing it, why?
  23. For quite a few years now I have played golf, slowly getting more serious as the seasons progressed but never fully caring. I am 14 years old now and just recently have found a passion for golf. I've been doing what I can to get better, but I feel like it will never be enough. Here is what I am doing or will do - - Practicing 2-3 hours a day - Playing 2-3 rounds a week - I will be applying to a program in school that allows you to do academics in the morning and then your desired sport in the afternoon. This would essentially turn my 2 hour a day practice into 5 hours a day and might allow me to get in more rounds - I will be getting lessons from a coach who was referred to me by one of my golf friends. The reason I feel this won't be enough is because I feel like I'm too late. I look at all these kids my age that are winning regional championships and such and feel like they were the early birds that got the worm (It's notable that I aspire to be on the PGA Tour one day, which is the main reason I am asking this question). If you look, many if not all the players on the PGA tour say they've been swinging a club since they were 3 and how they "naturally seemed to be attracted to it and do well" and such. I've seen many people talking about making the PGA Tour and how you need to win such tournaments and things by certain ages and feel like I've missed the boat. Is my late blooming something the will never allow me to be a great golfer? I don't want to put my heart in to the game and then come out with nothing because there's kids out there that just happened to know they loved golf 10 years before me. Thank you in advance.
